  • Short Line Railroad Switching On Cincinnati Eastern Railroad In Lawshe, Ohio On A Bridge Over A Road. Listen To The Train Climb Lawshe Hill & Climb The Grade At A Railroad Crossing In Mount Zion, Ohio. Video Includes Train Chase With Both Sides Of Train. This Train Is On The Eastern End Of The Norfolk Southern Railroad Peavine Line. CCET Leases 69 Route Miles Of Track From NS.
I was on my way to Portsmouth, Ohio to film the Norfolk Southern line and also CSX. While passing Peebles, Ohio my scanner started picking up activity on the CCET line. I stopped at Peebles and saw the end of the train passing by just after it had finished working McCoy Lumber. Then I went to Lawshe to catch them. The only road to Lawshe off of Highway 32 was closed at the bridge so I had to drive way around to take a back route to Lawshe. We see the train doing some switching on the main line. There is a long passing siding that is used for car storage. The train was switching flat cars around. I filmed the entire railroad switching process. It was interesting and some gravel was spilling out of the bottom of a few railroad cars.
Next we go to Tranquility Pike which is just east of Seaman, Ohio. Check out the train coming around the curve and climbing the grade. Is that awesome or what?! We see a closeup of the rail with a before and after shot.
After that we go to Mount Zion to get the other side of the train at a railroad crossing. This is Tricounty Highway. Listen to the awesome locomotives as they approach the level crossing. That was pretty cool. This is where Part 1 ends. Part 2 will start at a railroad crossing on the west end of Mount Zion. Part 2 will be a train chase from Mt Zion to Williamsburg, Ohio. It will include a look at abandoned railroad track in Sardinia and will include an awesome run at Williamsburg Hill. The train will be longer in Part 2 because there were loaded grain cars picked up at Mt Zion. Don't miss Part 2!
Filmed Thursday, May 16, 2024 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

3 Step Protection is for crew safety and was used in this video for switching. Three point protection is applied anytime either a crew member or a fellow employee of a different craft , fouls your train for any reason. Three point is most commonly used during coupling or securing or tying your train down. It consists of these actions. 1. Generator field switch in the off position. 2. Centering of the reverser. 3. Application of the Independent engine brakes. 4. A full service application of the Automatic brake. This in effect, prevents any movement of engines or a train , during a situation where a crew member fouls the equipment.

The train goes this way; then, the train goes that way; then, the train goes this way again. Then, a guy steps down from the locomotive, and sometimes spits some tobacco juice as he realigns the switch. Then, the train goes that way again. I love switching operations. Thanks Brian. Great video.

That's a really great vantage point for watching trains, quite picturesque, even though it reminds me that I start feeling very uncomfortable being directly under a bridge with a train going over it, almost claustrophobic. It goes back to when I was going to school. Unless I crossed over the rail lines themselves, I had to go under bridges to get to school. There was one benefit from going under one of those bridges, and that was a rather spectacular piece of graffiti, a drawing of a reclining woman. She had originally been nude, but somebody drew a bikini on her. She was only done in chalk, but every so often somebody would come along and make sure it was still in good order, so it was there for years. Sadly, the local council eventually painted over it. Such a waste, as it was almost a historical treasure. Somethings like that are worth keeping.

Hi, Jaw Tooth, I've loved trains all my life, my grandfather was a freight engineer on the B&O, (I was born in New Castle and they lived there, too) and I even rode on a passenger train from Pittsburgh to New Castle when I was a kid in the late '60's. When we moved to Oklahoma in the early '70's one of the things I missed were the trains, and it sure would have been nice to have had TH-cam back then! Oh, and I remember visiting Horseshoe Curve, but didn't it have a retired steam locomotive on display at one time? Keep the videos coming, please!

I love the view from below the trestle. It's super cool! It would not be good if a car passed under the trestle with the gravel falling. Scratch the paint. They would be suing the railroad. Awesome video! Thanks for the video Brian stay well roll on
