Only concern is the delicate screen scuffing, banging on an edge or dropping it on hard surface since there is no protection for any of these scenarios. It's like a super no no for a clumsy user.
The crease on foldable phones is a real deal breaker for me. And this guy is no exception. Add to that the lack of durability, the lack of battery life, the lack of screen protection and the cost and I would not touch this with a 10 ft pole. 😁
Finally, the only video I've seen of this phone where they actually correctly call it a "dual folding" phone. Everyone else keeps incorrectly calling it a "tri fold" which it isn't.
That's not correct though. The trifold terminology comes from wallets. A wallet that folds in 2 places with 3 panels is called a trifold wallet. This is despite the fact that it only folds 2 times. The tri in trifold comes from the number of panels. In other words everyone else is correct and this guy is the only one who is wrong.
I love my fold but ive struggled on the go using it as a PC for when i run windows emulation. This with a Bluetooth leyboard and mouse might ACTUALLY be the netbook of the future!! Oh my god this with a Dex like feature would be killer!!!
you don't even need a Dex-like-feature. Huawei's harmony OS has a special emulator layer that they can migrate some Linux version apps and runs them directly in the system, supporting all the keyboards and mouse interactions. I purchased a Huawei tablet last month, and there are already some "PC version" of apps they listed there, I looked into 2 of them, one is WPS (China's MS Office), another is a CAD app. you can directly run them, full screen or in a window, no need to transit between phone mode & dex mode. it's kinda funny that since WPS also has a mobile version, so you can run the mobile WPS and Linux WPS side by side at the same time. however, seems like there's still some migration and test work need to be done, so the "PC apps" list is still kinda short, but yeah, at this point, you start to realize that harmony OS isn't Android. it's much more than that.
Honestly the best part of this phone is knowing in 6 years there will be a whole market of well-developed triple fold devices that are more affordable. Someone had to go ahead and dive in, take the risk on this clearly luxury, highest-end smartphone that will only sell to a niche market. I hate to shill corporations since they often abuse workers (or their supply chain does), but this is undeniably impressiv. If all the apps were customized to fit the screen ratios properly, it would be breathtaking. A phone that can turn into a proper tablet is like a dream.
because the plastic screen is exposed to outside, it needs some sort of folio cover, or triple screen protector... thats the only way I would consider something like this... oh yeah and the price is just eyewatering
Samsung abandoned the outward folding display concept for a reason. Exposing the delicate soft plastic display poses a significant risk, potentially leading to costly repairs. Moreover, numerous videos from China show the tri-fold display being damaged straight out of the box, suggesting that other manufacturers have avoided outward folding smartphones for similar concerns.
Suffers the same problem as the first huawei fold that had an outer fold screen vs an inner fold screen. As novel of a concept as this is, it'll never get mainstream appeal
Tri Fold phones are entirely different device with much more flexibility and productivity than the book type foldables. This is the proper and maximized implementation of foldable phones. God Bless Us!
I still maintain rollable screen is the way to go for true pocketable tablet, but this is a great start. Huawei literally made squarish foldable screens redundant and irrelevant.
It should be "illegal" to talk about phone thickness without the camera bump. The Huawei looks good. But that is the biggest camera bump I've ever seen. With it, it's double the thickness of other fold phones.
People seem to forget how "durable" a folding screen is. Imagine having that in the front and side when closed. 💀 Can't easily fit a case and can't put tempered glass either. Repair costs 📈📈📈
Cool concept, but durability certainly is concerning here. Maybe in 4-5 years they come up with a breakthrough technology to protect folding screen, for now I'm still skeptical on the regular fold design, and those phones are tanks in comparison to this, with their conventional outside screen.
I won't lie. I originally said to myself, "This phone is doing too much." But that screen real estate would be an upgrade from the Z Fold 6 for productivity. But the always-exposed hinge scares me off a bit.
What is not mentioned in the review is that this Huawei phone has built-in advanced AI functions, such as editing photos. If all goes as planned, the iPhone 16's advanced AI will come later as an update.
The semi holy grail. That's the form factor foldables should be. However still couldn't have one as much as I would like. As they're still to fragile for my clumsyness. something I expected would get better year on year, but they still seem so fragile, I hope that it does improve.
@@jd2161 Actually the smart phone is only accounted for roughly 20% of their entire business. The main business is communication devices and connectivity.
I think, until/unless they are able to make decent thin cameras, foldables should be considered "foldable tablets WITH PHONES" and skip the elaborate camera array just as tablets do. I'm a big foldable user and would give up a good camera for a good tri-fold.

'Triple folding' refers to three screens, not folding them three times, bor
@@梁天-i2h I know what it’s referring to, but it’s still wrong terminology. Tri panel would make more sense, tri fold does not.
Ironically, calling it "dual folding" can be misleading even though technically it is correct.
@@fancyleaf yeah it’s strange. With this logic, every regular slab phone is a mono fold.
In 2050, Apple will sell Fold Phone & claim greatest Iphone ever
@@zsydeepsky2 If you could install any Linux program manually that would be great at least for people with good tech skills
This needs a very good case. I am very careful with my bar phone but still wouldn't want this without a durable case. Hope they ship it with one.
It's not having problems at all... Do a little search and you'll see how "solid" it is
Samsung abandoned the outward folding display concept for a reason.
7 million pre orders...
@@nasafake1 you can pre-order by putting in a nominal amount, you don't need to pay the full amount
Tri Fold phones are entirely different device with much more flexibility and productivity than the book type foldables. This is the proper and maximized implementation of foldable phones. God Bless Us!
I never heard of any problems from mate X
@@MST3.5 how many people you know have mate x?
It's a breath of fresh air to have a product that's not spammed with the words "AI" in every sentence
That height, does it include the camera bump?
I still maintain rollable screen is the way to go for true pocketable tablet, but this is a great start. Huawei literally made squarish foldable screens redundant and irrelevant.
Rollable phone will likely have its pros and cons. The main attraction is that the screen size facilitates remote desktop apps.
Bravo . I can see a lot of use, computer on the go . I have to be careful with all my phones anyway, I say thumbs up. 😊
Will these be sold in the states?
SNAP!
probably in seconds.
That about sums up my feeling about this expensive eggshell thin chinaware.
0:58 The Real "Z Fold" Smartphone 😂

Windows phone need to do a comeback with this 3 fold screen. It can smoothly integrated with windows on arm laptop. It's going to be crazy
Sorry but windows OS sucks
@@clandestine736 in term of capability it definitely better than chrome OS/ android lol
Thats crazy!! 6M preorders?!
$16B waiting and thats just china
Wow
I won't lie. I originally said to myself, "This phone is doing too much." But that screen real estate would be an upgrade from the Z Fold 6 for productivity. But the always-exposed hinge scares me off a bit.
What is not mentioned in the review is that this Huawei phone has built-in advanced AI functions, such as editing photos. If all goes as planned, the iPhone 16's advanced AI will come later as an update.
Courage and Innovation
Got about 5 years before this technology is ready for the masses.
but when this tech becomes cheap to make it will be GLORIOUS

Watching this on the Pura 70, which I believe has the same camera setup. I would be more than happy to have the mate XT as a daily
Samsung / Google / Honor: “we’re on it!”
Apple: “why would you want a tri fold when you now have funky coloured icons in iOS18?”
The semi holy grail. That's the form factor foldables should be. However still couldn't have one as much as I would like. As they're still to fragile for my clumsyness. something I expected would get better year on year, but they still seem so fragile, I hope that it does improve.
Correctly calling it dual folding in the beginning.. then incorrectly saying "fold open a phone three times" 1:36. Awesome looking tri-fold though!
It is technically a dual fold. There is no third fold lol
if you using it in the US, then you are a national security treat.
Here's a sponge that doesn't understand the restrictions 🤡

Huawei is not a mobile phone company. It is actually a communications technology company.
thats pretty much the same thing... youre just trying to sound smart
@@jd2161 well the point is they do more than just phones. They are in other industries.
@@jd2161 Actually the smart phone is only accounted for roughly 20% of their entire business. The main business is communication devices and connectivity.

Academic outside of China with HarmonyOS and no Google Services, at least for me.
I wasin the mindset of "folds are too small for a tablet when unfolded and too small for a phone when folded"

6 million pre-orders.
Impressive numbers.
I think, until/unless they are able to make decent thin cameras, foldables should be considered "foldable tablets WITH PHONES" and skip the elaborate camera array just as tablets do. I'm a big foldable user and would give up a good camera for a good tri-fold.
The only thing mind bending about the phone is there are people willing to pay $3,000.00 for it or import it for $7,000.00.
How did you get TH-cam??
once Samsung makes one I'll buy it day 1

Samsung has fallen behind their competitors such as Huawei, Honor, Vivo, OnePlus etc. Huawei and Honor have broken records in fold design.
HUAWEI have always been better in technology than all of them
