The product was great, but unfortunately, we had a bad experience with their customer service. Our box arrived completely damaged and despite reaching out to them, they did nothing to assist us. Jeff, on the other hand, was a shining star and really went above and beyond to help us out.
Thanks for sharing your experience. We included the link here from Amazon- which includes a refund or replacement if it arrives damaged. Glad you are enjoying it now. Thanks for watching!
You can find the Stowaway Max with swing away here: amzn.to/3dHcc8T Same box in white is here: amzn.to/3tju6pG If you would like the smaller size standard Stowaway 2 (not max) you can find it here: amzn.to/48FycJ0 For the swing away frame only (No box) amzn.to/3rJPrrE Hitch Tightener: amzn.to/3PzE3qm Great products! Enjoy!
The heat shields come separately and are installed by the owner. They are only necessary with the rear exit exhaust. You could for sure make some minor adjustments to their placement if necessary.
I am considering one of these so thank you for your thorough review. One thing I am concerned with is my backup camera. Did you guys have to shut off your "warning" alerts for your backup sensors/camera? I really like having a rear camera so trying to come up with a plan on how to disable the vehicle one and then maybe add another backup camera to the license plate holder on this carrier. Is there a place on the license plate holder to attach it?
Great questions. On most vehicles (including this Durango) there is a button to turn off the back up warning alarm/ signal. As to your question of an additional camera, that would be pretty easy to install because of the power already at the box for the tail lights and also the fact that it does have a license plate holder. In general when I am carting this box I park a little further out so I can use pull through spots, but of course that is not always possible. It is a great box- would not trade it for any of the others. The quality is superior and it could very easily last a couple of decades of trips.
Trying to see if this is viable for a model X. Usually when we charge we have to back up and sometimes there is a post. So it could be tricky. Might just try the harbor freight one that folds up after i take whatever on the back i have. Yes it's a hassle but that's what it is with newer tech. Once you drive electric it's hard to go back to regular gas cars. 😊
Thanks for watching. Yes that is an interesting consideration. We run this one on a Dodge Durango and park either front in or back in with no problems. The swingaway arm would give you the option to swing it out of the way if there was an obstruction directly in the center. These boxes are expensive but there is no comparison in quality with any of the other options on the market- as you will notice with all the duct tape and trash bags wrapped around the others on the road. I would consider what you will be carrying and the water resistance. If you are only carrying beach gear for instance then it probably doesnt matter so much for quality. If you are carrying luggage or anything that can't get wet then the Stowaway can't be beat. The Stowaway is very solid and very durable- much like a kayak or boat in rigidity and quality. Good luck with your search!
There are not many local suppliers for these. When we were purchasing the local suppliers would have had to order from Stowaway and price/ time frame was the same as ordering from Amazon or the website. You can also get them from the Stowaway website.
Thanks for watching. There are a number of sizes and options. The Max with the swingaway feature is currently $1099 without the swingaway will be a little cheaper. Also the smaller size is cheaper. We have links in the description and the comments to the listings for sale.
Thanks for watching. Like the old saying goes- You get what you pay for. This box is more of an investment that will last many years. The cheap ones are more suited for a single trip and get out the duck tape. The first one of these we bought was used by another family for 10 years- then we bought it and continued to use with no problem for many more years. No leaks, no cracks, no perceptible wear due to age. We only sold that one to upgrade to the swingaway feature.
Thanks for watching. This is the "MAX" box, which is the large size. There is a smaller version (12.5 cu ft) available in both black and white. Here is a link amzn.to/3NtZ6er The main difference between the Stowaway boxes and others is the quality of construction. You will see a lot of the cheaper boxes cracked because the plastic is thin and brittle. These boxes are a similar material to kayaks. Very thick and very strong. We have had no problems with this one- now going on a couple of years of use. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the demo! The cart looks like a great idea. I’ll see if this works for my Dodge Caravan.
Thanks for watching. It will work on any vehicle with a square receiver hitch.
Perfect to store a small outboard for Baja beach launching an inflatable to fish and dive.
Absolutely! The removable plug makes it quick and easy to clean out after a trip to the beach

@@FireItUpGarage They were most unhelpful as a company. I would not recommend them as a company
@@fin1964 Sorry to hear that. We recommend purchasing on Amazon so that you will have Amazon support.

This is awesome. I worry that my split gate on my x5 would probably hit that heat sheild.

Thanks for watching and thanks for asking. Try this video and see if it is what you are looking for th-cam.com/video/JG__wlitH_I/w-d-xo.html
For what you pay for these things they really should add the locking hitch pin. Minor but seriously.
That would be a great idea since it would be silly to run one of these without it. Thanks for watching.
Any stores carry these besides Amazon ?

Quick search for the price: $1100.

Great but for 5x the cost of others not that great

Nice but WAY too big to have to store in the garage
