I own a 2014 wrx and I cant begin to stress how right this guy is. The stock summer tires that come on the car are useless in the snow, even with AWD. I just got proper winter tires and the car is a tank. Definitely worth the investment
It's all about driving slow, being cautious and good set of tires! If you're going somewhere, leave earlier than you usually leave, to make up for driving slow and also so you don't rush.
Driving a new Civic but can't afford 2 sets of wheels? I don't get it. Here in Germany it's illegal to drive with summer tires in the winter season, even if we don't have that much snow most of the times
Condescending? It's called advice and perhaps it's self explanatory to you but to newbie drivers, like myself, it's a nice reminder to stay safe and be prepared for the winter. Another GREAT Video guys.
Thanks Carson Clark! Brandon is really trying to emphasize the importance of the things he mentioned in this video. Neither of us want to see any car smashed up because of something that can be avoided. Of course, there are many variables that we cannot control, but we'd like to control those that we can. Thanks, -Filipe
The Drive Yeah, I don't know why those two guys were so upset with it but hey, haters gonna hate! keep these kinds of vids going man. I always enjoy the convo/drive.
Carson Clark Thank you sir! Everyone is entitled to their opinion, so their just voicing theirs as you are yours. We've got another one coming today….what would you do with 45k?!? ;) -Filipe
I drive a 9th gen SI sedan that my parents let me use (no im not an ungrateful teenager if you were wondering) and ive only been driving for a couple months, maybe only 3 before i had to drive in this crazy winter season. When we bought it the car it came with summers and i went the entire winter with them and did just fine. It was a pain in the ass but as long as you realize you need to be more cautious, especially around other people you should be fine. The only problems i had were starting from a stop and getting up hills in my neighborhood. Keep some momentum, turn gradually and you should manage.
Yeah, it sounds like you're on the right track man! Keep on keeping on. Going slow around turns and keeping momentum are critical! -The Guys at The Drive
Thank you so much for your video, i have a set of kuhmo ecstas and they are sooooo bad in the snow, even with engine braking and vsa off these tires have no traction and slip constantly. thinking of getting these of good years
Props to you man! Not everyone has a positive experience. We trust that you know what you're doing. What did you drive around with? I go to school in Boston, and with the exception of winter storm Nemo, they do a great job of cleaning the roads. -Filipe
When it comes to driving in bad weather, people tend to blame everything but themselves. The car does bad in the snow, the tires are shitty, it was icy out, blah blah blah. Everyone wants AWD, 4WD, FWD, traction control, stability control, SUVs, on and on... but generally, you can drive anything in the snow just fine depending on your skill. Drove my I35 on bald summer tires for two North Jersey winters just fine, and the ABS didn't work, either. I've driven my Z31 through many winters just fine, too. And I've had other cars most wouldn't see fit for snow driving, that I've never had any issues with. Although I disagree with you about engine braking vs. braking, turning off stability control, etc, I will say that a HUGE part of safe driving is the DRIVER, and the rest is the car.
99 civic ex coupe on cooper summer tires. The idiot before me even threw shitty lowering springs on the rear so the camber is dreadful; still need to fix that problem. Still drove fine during a snowstorm on the highway for 3+ hours. Can't blame it on tires it's people not knowing how to drive cautiously or just drive in general. Manual cars also give you a lot more control as well in the snow from my experience.
Going to buy honda civic 2007. Is it good in snow if i put 2 mechiline all seaon tires. The car i 4 sylender front wheel drive. Thank you. I live in CT
I'm not sure if it's recommended or not but you can shift 1st-3rd on the auto but it's not the same gear ratios and I don't know if you can shift up or down from them or not while moving.
how did you car do in the snow with rust. I have an 07 si that is from Texas I moved to Illinois recently and I'm afraid to take it out In the snow and SALT because I don't want it to rust or anything
The car has been driven in the northeast its entire life. The past 4 years that ive owned it i drive it everyday no patter the weather and i habe 1 extremely small spot of surface rust on the rear fender behind the wheel well that has since been painted over. Keep your car clean and dont let salt sit on it for more than a few days and it wont rust. I promise.
These cars are straight tanks in the snow why the reason that was leery about buying it was because it's really snowy where I live and this car hasn't let me down and some of the snowiest conditions we've ever had I couldn't see the roof of my car when I woke up the other day we got 26 inches of snow overnight going through over my bumper deep snow
I've been trying to find tips on driving a Honda Accord in the snow specifically a 2000 sedan. And all I come up on in the results is ricers drifting in the snow or how to drift front wheel drive 😂😂

Just watched a m3 with snow tires beat a awd subaru...in the snow. Subaru of course had summer tires..
@@thedrivetv1 subaru awd is the best tho just saying

What about time of day? I assume early morning and night times are bad to drive with a FWD car?

+PepsiPunisher Same thing in parts of Canada. Why would you only get 2 wheels though. And who's driving a new civic? And when were civics expensive?
+The Drive he said two sets of tires, not two tires....
+Ryan Cohan and I can edit my comment to say whatever I want, too.
The snow really a curse
Not really as long as you know what it is and how dangerous it is🤣
Always leave your car in gear unless you're parking.. and get/use your freaking windshield wash... :)
I own a 2009 Honda Civic lx with all seasons
We are now on Facebook as well, folks!

What Would You Buy or Build With 45 Grand? | The Drive Talks #3
I have an 09 Si. I swear by winter tires! I would like to learn more about VSA actually being worse for slippage. Care to expand please?

Super helpful this exactly what I was looking for good info

I drove for two years with lowpros summer tires and i live in Boston.

I can't get all seasons here in the north. I couldn't get up my driveway after shoveling and I have good winters. I'm getting new tires with studs!

I drive my RWD car in the winter as well...I agree. It's usually driver's error!
I have one set of tires for my car. Usually just get all season.
I have all season tires on my 08 civic coupe, and recently drove it in the mountains in 7 inches of snow with no problem
Loew Hio your bullshit lol

WE'd argue that it's a mix. Good driver and good tires are ideal!

what were those tires again? i have a 2010 civic 4 dr and i am trying to decide whats best in all season tires.thanks!
continental DWS :) good luck!
How do u engine break with an auto?

That’s a nice car
I got a set of winter tires for my Si, and TH-cam experts told me that was a stupid waste of time, lol--go figure

rockingdrifter17 will do!

What tires are you running sir?
Hah I got the same car and the same tires!
Hard to go wrong with that setup!
The Drive do you chirp second with those tires
Yes.

Useless unless its deep enough

Lol. Filipe's advice: Slow and steady! No rash decisions. Avoid tight turns, stretch them out as long as possible!
