6 Best NES Horror Games | DBPG

Hope everyone is having a spooky October. I am continuing my look at the best horror games per console and today we have the NES. There are plenty of good horror games on this system but my list tries to capture the best that is offered. Keep in mind I did not include any Japanese only/Famicom games and that I am limiting it to 1 game per franchise, otherwise there would be 3 Castlevania games.

Its a fun little Konami game, not too long which is perfect if you have 1-2 hours

Great list! It's a shame Friday the 13th had so many flaws. It could've been awesome. And good call picking Castlevania 3 over the first 2.

Really for me, it would just be the three Castlevania games I think of, that is also for games I like haha. Well you've seen me mention the Nightmare On Elm Street game for it enough, in a way not surprised you liked it as you did, one of the other things I was always on about the game: I mean it has issues no question BUT more than enough things about it make up for it and its more than playable too which helps. I have a harder time with the NES figuring things out like this myself than others is what I'm getting at. That said, Monster Party, the only other one specifically for me I could say for it so I'd get four in if I did this haha. Still, Manic Mansion I usually still don''t think of for the thing, more on the computer but it's fitting, enough. As you said Brian yeah its a little of a stretch still.

Marked out when I saw Monster In My Pocket make this list *chef's kiss*.
And I do like Friday the 13th amidst its. It's a few design choices away from being one of the cooler NES games

Sweet Home is also of note. Strangely enough, the Netflix show with that name is not an adaptation of it, but it's one of the inspirations for Resident Evil. And probably an adaptation of the late 80s movie. Basically, imagine RE with the gameplay of Final Fantasy. Basic puzzles, turnbased combat, a surprising amount of adult themes for the NES... Well, I mean the Famicom because it was Japan exclusive outside of fan translation ROMs. Look, let's be real, NES or not, we need more horror RPGs that feel like RPGs. You got your Darkwoods and your Corpse Parties, but I want another horror Final Fantasy! Think of how many spooky enemy designs you could work in, awesome spooky music, turnbased combat with crowbars! Something akin to Off, perhaps. In the meantime, Sweet Home is no Alabama. Probably less inc3st though.

A very nice NES collection, uninvited, is pretty unique that never got a gbc remake like deja-vu I+II or shadow tower I think🤔 All 3 castlevanias are nice and I damn adore Castlevania III, which is pretty unqiue cool and hard😃
