I'm a proud owner of an ED80, and I love it. Used mainly for astrophotography, nice scope. This video was very informative, I didn't know about the starizona FF. Thanks, keep the videos coming!

Just received my 72 ed , can't wait to take it out , looks beautiful and solid , crayford style focuser feels high quality , I also purchased a 2 inch focal extender and a 2 inch to 1 and a quarter inch adapter , , did a spot daylight viewing and ll I can say is WOW ! for now , it's mounted on my celestron Sky Prodigy idiot proof mount , because it aligns itself and finds my targets for me , but it works great . clear skies everyone !

Great overview. I have an 100ED. Last night I observed Jupiter and Saturn. For most of the night the images were clear and crisp. The optics are excellent. I hope to take some DSLR pictures soon

Great overview, thanks Kevin! Would be wonderful to see an episode on your Explorer P and PDS Newtonians? Thanks! :)

I recently bought the 120ED version. Actually 120mm is only 7mm less then a full 5 inch of 127mm. Almost like a 5 inch refractor. On the cloudy nights site there are so many members who love the 120ED version. I wish they made that 1000 focal length. I know your now not allowed to disclose the glass type only saying it’s a ED element with the diagram showing the back element to be of synthetic fluorite which is Ohara FPL-53. The front mating element is supposed to be made of Schott glass. Now I know for sure that the 80ED, 100ED, 120ED is using Ohara FPL-53 with Schott as the mating element. The logo saying Schott used to be on the side of those three refractors but due to copyright laws skywatcher no longer can put that logo on those refractors. I am very certain especially the members on the cloudy nights group who have the 150ED version say it’s definitely does not have the FPL-53 and Schott combination but is using FPL-51 with a undisclosed compatible mating element. I know you cannot confirm on the glass make up on the Evorstar line but the 80, 100 120 line is still using FPL-53 Schott combination. Also I have the APM APO152 ED and compared very briefly side by side with the 120ED and found the brightest between the two not that great a difference. Do note the APM is using FPL-51 with Lanthanum combination which means FLP-53 ED element is among the finest ED element around. Obviously the APM gives a brighter image but it just not that much brighter then the 120ED. I observe in suburban sky conditions. I actually prefer the views through the 120ED because it looks a little more sharper and clearer on objects especially on the planets. There is a more bigger difference going from 4 to 5 inches then from 5 to 6 inches. The Evostar line especially the 80ED, 100ED 120ED is really great optically.

Hi Kevin. I’m a Noob so excuse the question. Is the EvoStar Rotator just for Attaching a DSLR or can it be used to rotate the Diagonal? I’m asking because sometimes the Finderscope and Eyepiece are in a awkward position when on an EQ Mount and I need to rotate the diagonal …. Would this help ?? How would you do it. Is there an accessory that I’m missing ? Proud owner of an EvoStar 100 on a AVX …. Cheers from the Bronx NYC
