Fantastic analysis of foam densities and dissection. I've been watching every video on these and it's the best I've seen. We don't understand enough about foam so this was a great help. Keep up the science!
The most detail paddle reviewer ever. Love all the dissecting paddles review as we as pickleball players and consumers know what we are getting before paying big bucks for it.
@@PickleballMedicine I was a bit concerned when you pry barred the face sheet off the core. The test CRBN did claims it's a solid bond between the two materials.
“Swing thru and trust the spin” is now going to be my new motto. Same here, once I started doing that, my drives were so much better. The dip after the net is so obvious, the shooting forward with a super low bounce is incomparable to all the paddles I ever played…. I’m loving my TFG2
4.357 dupr 1 year CRBN 3x user, just played 5 games with the TF3…OMG didn’t ever think I would give up my 3x but this paddle is the shizzle. Played 2 games without lead tape, 3 with tape-big difference in pop/power-love this paddle. My 3x shows no signs of core crushing but it’s going to happen if you play with it long enough. Foam is the future for durability and CRBN did a shit load of R&D on the Genesis series….CRBN Rules
Hope you are Right I order that one but is not the one they Recomend so hopefully it work for me . 😮😮😮😮 I put good spin on may ball so I’ll figured should be better now
AND BAAAAM! I love this review Dustin, everything about it! That dissection and comparison is very helpful, I could only hope that I would have the courage to do that in the future.
Very good assessment on the correlation between twist weight and sweet spot. Twist weight increases the twisting moment of inertia, but it does not account for the torsional flex of the paddle. Torsional stability is determined by both twist weight and the paddle's torsional flexibility. Torsionally stiffer paddles will contribute to a larger sweet spot.
Great video as always! Ended up using your code to pre-order the Tf2 after watching tons of videos from you and other paddle reviewers 😂 During the segment when you were talking about the notice in difference in power between the Genesis and the Pulse series paddles, was that comparison between all 4 paddles played stock? Or similar weight set ups between the Pulse S/TF1 and Pulse V/Tf2? Also, shoutout to Cody for helping me with trying to figure out a weight set up for the Rev Zeus, which I bought to try based both of your opinions from two previous videos!
Thanks, pulled the trigger on the TFG2 using PBMED for the discount (which means I put the savings towards expedited shipping). Just wish they would've had the TFG4 (hybrid) available instead of saying it's coming with no ETA. Do like their 30-day trial!
Ok, I’m so not even in your and Justin’s universe when it comes to geeking out over paddle construction, but this this dissection was sooo cool and informative! Love it!!!
Interested what do they sound like compared to other paddles? Are they going towards quiet? Delam looks like it can happen if the face separates from the foam….
Really a great review, your dissection of the paddles was impressive. Thoughts on weighting the paddle. Noticed a SimonX in the background, you ever use that tank of a ball machine?
Finally! Cant wait to hear your thoughts on these. These along with the frnaklin c45 have my attention for their dwell time and alleged enhanced durability while not being as hot as a ripple (which i disagree from an ethics standpoint)
I was wondering from this use of hard foam which can 'wrap' in a hard hit, whether the ball spin ability depends on how hard you hit the ball (in comparison to a friction based paddle surface, where spin would be much more independent of how hard the ball is hit)
I appreciate the analysis and look forward to playing with Genesis 2, which I ordered yesterday, especially as transitioning from competitive table tennis I've been waiting for for the emergence of paddles with more significant dwell time and spin potential. I am curious if you have an opinion on whether foam core paddles, like Genesis, that have more dwell and less (harsh) vibration will help alleviate issues with tennis elbow - something I, and many other racket sports players have struggled.
So good, great stuff as always and love the attention to detail. Thanks! Would you agree the TFG2 is an upgraded Pulse V ? I main the Pukse V and LOVE it. If I get the TFG2 do you feel is a good solid upgrade all around? Thanks!
Thank you, and I hope it was helpful! At this point, yes, I think so. I was maining the V for a while, so I feel pretty familiar with it, and I'm enjoying the 2 a bit more
Awesome review Sir - one question - what weight setup do you use on your TFG2? My 2 is at the post office rn - supposed to arrive Monday - thanks again for all you do!!
4.357 dupr I did 2 inch strips of tape on the corners 10/2..5/7..and 3/9 o’clock position. Played 6 games 3 without the tape and 3 with, big difference in pop/pwr with the lead tape..love this paddle…40 years of competitive tennis so I am use to a heavier weight paddle…5 years been playing pickleball
Curious if you have tried the Body Helix F1 TerraCore paddle. This is a solid foam carbon face paddle like the Selkirk but apparently failed initial testing. I have a CRBN 2 on order and just started playing with the Body Helix, which feel like a very powerful paddle in a standard shape. Thoughts?
I made the mistake and got the TFG³. I assumed it wouldnt be too different since I'm coming from the 3X, but I'm not a huge fan of this model. Now I agree that it absolutely takes multiple games to really appreciate the TFG paddle, but the one thing I still can't get passed is the weight. It throws me off too much and I feel too sluggish. I will probably exchange it for a TFG², even tho I've never really played with a wide body shape before. From what everyone is saying, it seems to best fit my play preference.
Man, I'm sorry.. I had a similar experience! In general, the 3 would probably be too heavy for me as well. The 1 is much more friendly, imo, but on that same note, the 2 feels less widebody-like than a lot of others, so it's pretty non-widebody user friendly
🧠curious🧠 With these types of paddles that because of dwell time being the main impact on their spin -- Is there someone who will maybe take sandpaper to the face of these high dwell paddles and see how much of the spin really does come from dwell time or the pocketing affect?
Also - I REALLY HOPE that static weight becomes a standard in reviews from now on. It needs to happen in order to get the customers the best reference of what type of stats will my specific paddle have?
Interesting watching these as a couple of other reviews didn't feel the sweet spot was bigger than others... not that they were bad, but not close to being bigger than others.... now all have talked about the nice spin, so that is cool...and others have mentioned less power than you felt... but it really is all subjective outside of certain numbers and different people play differently....
Honestly, absolutely none, haha. I could probably do some lead for more pop, but it's been pretty much right where I want it so I don't want to change anything atm, haha
I played with my Trufoam today and I was not impressed. The reviews were saying that this paddle was a game changer and it definitely is not! The paddle was average at best and my Engage Pursuit Pro had tons more power than the CRBN. The spin was good but not great and the dwell time that they were talking about was honestly not there at all. I tried it with lead tape and without and really liked it better with no lead at all and that never happens. I think that the only paddles that are "game changers" will probably be delisted like the MOD and others. The MOD had tons of power and I heard the Ripple does too, but we may never know. I am probably going to stick with my Engage for the foreseeable future and probably return my Trufoam for the full refund or whatever the warranty gives me. Very disappointed because I expected so much more from this paddle and I really thought the dwell time would be great for my game. Where was the dwell time? They always talk about "break in periods" but who has time to lose game after game waiting for their paddle to "break in"? I've spent thousands on paddles and I always go back to my Engage so I think the paddle quest is finally over for me. Good luck if you think that the paddle will ever make your game "that much better". I am only a 4.5 so maybe the pros can see the difference???
I think your experience is fair, and completely valid. I would just say, like I mentioned in the review, you really need to try these more than a few times to get it dialed in. I did not like them after my first day, as I mentioned, but it takes adjustment. I dont think anyone will have an accurate take on these after just one session, tbh. The ceiling is much higher than you would think, based solely on first impressions.
@@PickleballMedicine Yes, one of the paddles that I loved on the first day was the MOD TA but they delisted it a week after I bought it, so that was the end of that. The Engage Pursuit Pro was also great on the first day so I should probably just stay with that.
The spin does depend on the surface friction as well. Dwell time alone won't cut it. Traction/friction is necessary. Less friction via surface wear will still equate to less spin with this paddle. As with most paddles, the surface is going to wear out before the core.

What is the palette in the handle made of? Plastic or the cheaper foam? That would be a shame if they cheaped out there. Awesome review and tear down!
