My introduction to Imelda May was when she was supporting Jools Holland at Eastnor Castle in 2008. There was a power cut but, like true professionals, they carried on a capella. Afterwards I went over and bought one of Imelda's CDs she was selling from the boot of her car. Amazing lady 😻
I saw her yesterday at Nottingham's 'City Pulse' festival. What a stunning band! I have seen many good live acts but this one was so full of fun and enthusiasm. They projected their enjoyment right off that stage and into a very appreciative crowd. Thanks Imelda May and your fantastic band.
My friend asked me to go see Imelda May with her on the off-chance I was free. I was free and now my life is much enriched with Imelda-ness :) loooove her ^^
Imelda sure knows how to fire up a song. Great band too and FAB HUSBAND and they now have a beautiful little daughter. God bless them all and thanks for the music, and upload.
Imelda May is simply 'fabulous'! My 2 year old daughter recognizes & dances to her tunes, my ringtone is 'big bad handsome man' (reminds me of the Hubbie...) In this day & age of manufactured pop & auto tuning, Imelda & her amazingly talented Husband Darryl Higham make a great change to the 'musical geniuses' we are forced to listen to in the Top 40 & on awful shows like The X Factor.... Imelda, we love your music, please keep it coming!! :) x
and finally someone with REAL TALENT a gutsy voice and a Dublin lass at that!! Will be going to see her here in Brussels next week......can't wait :-))))
He got me with a hook Those big bass notes Thunder in my chest Stuck in my throat Pulling me down Like a rumble in the ground Crawls up from the depths With a deep down sound Johnny got a boom boom Johnny got a bam He got a Big bomb body Lonely neck Swear it was a woman That he had in his grip Big vibrations, yeah Just one glance He'd gonna blow my mind He's gonna make me wanna Make me wanna, oh Watch that man See what's in his hands Got no joy He's a big bad boy He's gonna freak you out You're gonna shriek out loud He's got you in his hands He's gonna make you wanna Make you wanna, oh
Man. I just love her voice. The first time I saw Imelda May was on Later With Jools Holland (On BBC America). She performed before Katy Perry and the difference in voice quality, delivery and power was remarkable. Nothing against Ms. Perry, but her voice (IMO) cannot compare to Imelda May. There is a certain quality in Ms. May's voice that the over-produced pop-singers just do not have. I'm sorry to hear Ms. May and her husband broke up, but I'm glad she's continuing her career. We need more true artists and far less over-produced "musical product" to choose from. We can always hope. But I'm not holding my breath given today's PC music business.
I saw her live last year at Hyde Park festival, London. One if not the best set that day, full of energy and passion. Great voice and and a great lady.
A whole lotta soul and attitude as real as can be! Imelda i know this from a few years ago.. but please come back to the States.. New England area if possible.
I saw her and the band open for Jeff Beck Last night, they were great. She came out and did a fantastic version of Lilac Wine w/ Jeff, it was spine tingling.
Wow a real singer with a real voice and good music... so refreshing when compared to todays stale and auto tuned music industry. Just found a new artist worth listening to.
I love how much the double bass is involved in this song! My dad told me he saw Imelda May live and when she was about to sing this the bass player came right up next to her, he must have been so enthusiastic about his role in it!!
I just saw Imelda May for the first time and it was one of the best concerts I have ever seen! -I have seen and continue to see all kinds of music: Classical, hardcore punk, pop, jazz, blues, opera...baby, I was born to the beat! Imelda May DELIVERS THE GOODS! What a voice!! The band is badass kickass great!!
Love Imelda May and band. Saw them at Beautiful Days Festival 2 years ago, been hooked ever since. Refreshing, and feet so firmly on the ground.. . . . .
I'm from Mexico and about one year ago I bought her CD without knowing that it would become the CD I have recommended to everyone I know. Imelda COMO TO MEXICO NOW!!
Went to see her at the marquee in cork last thurs.what a gig.probably the best live gig i have been to.she has an incredible voice and the band are class as well.
@heights2 Couldn't agree more. Where has this girl been or why haven't I heard her before. One of the best voices ever! Love the music. Made a playlist today and have been listening all day to anything ImeldaMay. Absolutely great!
I saw Imelda and her band perform "Johnny Gotta..." on Jools Holland as well. She and her band stole the show hands down. I love her voice, her delivery, energy and that she is a real, talented human being. Something missing in way too much of today's music.
Heard this in the movie “Wild target” - immediately had to go and find out who did it. Have been a huge fan ever since. Love this style similar in some ways to Boom! Bap! Pow!
I first heard Imelda on a movie soundtrack. Mayhem was the song. It took a little doing , but I found it. That was way before I knew about TH-cam. I ordered her CD and just went crazy for her music
This song always reminds me of why I play double bass -- because it's cool, because it's fun, because it sounds awesome, and in the hopes that a woman like Imelda will dig me for it. Mostly that last one.
I also saw this band on Jools Holland on New Years Eve. For such a tricky song, they sounded very tight and polished, and they played it faster on the show too!
I saw her in cork she was amazing I can’t believe she cashed in her quif for bangs and crying !!! It was so original as it was !! I love all her old music !
I am a newbie to Imelda May. I listened to Jeff Beck and there she was. What a voice!!!! Beth Hart who is herself a very very talented singer followed the JB IM track . I just had to replay Imelda May.
Heh, the opening ad for this vid was the vid for her song It's Good to be Alive. Only time I didn't click right past the ad. Can't get enough of that song! :)
My introduction was when I saw her open in Charlotte a few years ago for Elvis Costello
My introduction was the tribute to Les Paul with Jeff Beck. BLEW MY MIND!
You mean acoustically.
Why can't I like this twice? So good.
You can set up as many accounts as you'd like and like the video on each account!
Now THIS is a singer with real talent! What a voice! And Charisma in spades! Full package.
Hell, this is it💥
@@marialeysen2030 Yes & I have seen her after her split & without the rockabilly package & she is still fantastic
Great voice!
Definitely a rare gem underestimated
Imelda please come back !!! Your army awaits you ... Rockabilly Princess.
10 years ago we constantly played Imelda May at my bar in Austin, Texas.
Now I sing this song to my husband whenever he goes into the bathroom.
Dude kills it on the bass on this one...
God almighty! It's been 13 years since this came out. Where did time fly? Still sounds as good today as it first did then.
This is what the New Jersey sound is about.......rock a billy and a little blues thrown in for good measure.......love the beat...crazy cat...
She’s Irish?
@@fatheadthedog Yeah....but the MUSIC style is all American my friend
Imelda May, a right royal rockabilly hippy chick.
And the band!!...simply awesome.

She is definitely the whole package

He got me with a hook
Those big bass notes
Thunder in my chest
Stuck in my throat
Pulling me down
Like a rumble in the ground
Crawls up from the depths
With a deep down sound
Johnny got a boom boom
Johnny got a bam
He got a
Big bomb body
Lonely neck
Swear it was a woman
That he had in his grip
Big vibrations, yeah
Just one glance
He'd gonna blow my mind
He's gonna make me wanna
Make me wanna, oh
Watch that man
See what's in his hands
Got no joy
He's a big bad boy
He's gonna freak you out
You're gonna shriek out loud
He's got you in his hands
He's gonna make you wanna
Make you wanna, oh
Just heard her on the radio here in Adelaide doing tainted love. She’s great. Love this
Where have you been hiding, Imelda? This was awesome.
