  • Today's video is an updated tiny cut flower garden tour in mid-July showing BIG results out of the tiny space used for my first year of growing a cut flower garden! Everything shown in the small cut flower garden space has either been started from seed over winter or direct seeded this spring and summer. I am THRILLED with the results! It's completely amazing what can be produced from itty bitty seeds!
Lessons learned from specific plant growth in height and performance, how certain plants perform without support, and what has worked and not worked well for insects will definitely help in planning next year's cut flower bed! The experience of learning through trial and error is invaluable!
A list of flowers grown, along with where they are purchased from, is below in order of appearance:
    - Zeolights Calendula (Botanical Interests)
    - Nigella Love-In-A-Mist (Floret Flower)
    - Doubilini White and Rosanne Black Pearl Lisianthus (Johnny's Seeds)
    - Stock (Johnny's Seeds)
    - Copper Red and Scarlet Strawflower (Johnny's Seeds)
    - Bachelor Buttons (Floret Flower)
    - Madame Butterfly Red and Madame Butterfly Mix (Johnny's Seeds)
    - Erewhon, Restormel, North Shore, Porluck Sweet Peas (Floret Flower)
    - Aster (Johnny's Seeds)
Please comment below and tell me how your cut flower garden has performed so far this year! If you found this video intriguing in the slightest, please give us a like and subscribe to our channel to follow our journey!
Thanks for watching and happy planting!
    -Steph

Your personal cut flower garden is cute and inspiring. I am making a little personal cut flower garden for myself next year.

Thank you Naffy’s North Facing Garden! It’s been incredibly rewarding to reap what I’ve, literally, sown!

Hi there! Just found your channel. I'm trying to do a cut flower area this year. Someone sent me some zeolite calendula in a swap. I'm so excited to grow them after seeing how beautiful they were in your garden. Thanks for sharing

A beautiful cut garden ❤. I grew strawflowers for the first time this year and love them. Mine were super tall as well. I have not tried love in a mist but they are very pretty and so different from other flowers. Oh the bunnies - this year was the worst for me - they ate so many of my plants and I had to add chicken wire everywhere. Looking forward to seeing your garden next year. 😊

Thank you, Monica Katie! It was a really fun first year to experiment! Love in a Mist is SO pretty and unique - no doubt about it. I believe some people use them for dry flowers as well. The dainty, delicate look partnered with it’s texture makes it such a winner! 😍 My goodness, those bunnies had themselves a year! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Thanks for subscribing! Happy to have you along the journey! 😃

Hi Marchelle! That’s exactly what I’ve done since we moved here two years ago. It’s SO fulfilling! Even after the trial and error of what works. Have fun! Glad to have you here! 😄

Oh you’re beautiful flowers in your garden this is one thing I was sort of sad about this year I do have a lot of flowers in my garden but nothing like it’s been in the past. After watching all these videos from all of you awesome creators out there I told my husband I was going to buy like three times the flower seeds this coming year and really planned hard with seeds and see what I could bring back to what I used to have but my yard was such a mess this year it’s been hard getting it cleaned back up to what it used to look like it have been not cared for for two years. One year I had two surgeries myself and just about the time I’m getting over my own two surgeries my husband had to have brain surgery and another year of not doing anything Harley in the yard because of his health but now. Now that we’re both doing better we’re old soul still it’s going to be a slow process of getting the yard looking pretty again but at least I can get out there and do 20 minutes every day

Oh, Grandma Sandy, what a moving comment to receive! First off, I’m glad to hear you and your husband are doing better! I remember feeling agitated after and right before I had my first baby last year that I couldn’t do as much outside, but we do what we need to do for ourselves and our loved ones, while our gardens will always be there for us to dive back into - even for 20 min a day as you said! Keep me updated with how your seeds do and enjoy your precious time in the garden! Best wishes!

Kia ora from New Zealand and thank you for sharing your lovely cut flower garden. I'm glad I saw the height of your straw flowers before I plant mine this spring. Also - interesting about the calendula drawing the aphids to them. I have just direct seeded a row of calendula around my 3 climbing roses. Hope they do the job. I have subscribed and look forward to more videos.

Great to have you here, Jacinta, and thank you for subscribing! It’s wonderful to hear from people on the other side of the globe! Great idea direct seeding around your roses - fingers crossed they do the job for you! Keep me updated! ☺️

What state are you in and what is your zone! It is great to see cut flowering on a small scale as I have a tiny farm that I make a living from and so many people have them in a big scale! It is all about properly spacing and making use of that space!!!

I’m in Illinois in the northern suburbs of Chicago in zone 5B! I couldn’t agree more! Good for you for rocking your tiny farm…I’m mulling over the idea of adding some more raised beds and doing the same thing!

@@TinysGarden definitly use the raised bed you have to try out different plants. That way you know what grows well in your zone and then you can start planning out the amount of beds:) it will save you money down the road:) Super cute setup with what you have!!!

You can kill aphids by washing them off with a hose. They will suck the life out of your plant. N. CA flower farmer.

Thanks for the tip! I tried similar things and I thought I even tried with the hose, but they came back each time 🤷🏻‍♀️ We’ll see how it goes next year!

Ladybugs like aphids and usually polish them off (assuming chemicals are not used). 🙂🐞
