I started playing guitar in 1974. So gold top deluxe hasa special place in my heart. I wish I'd bought a player grade one back when people didn't value them as much as now.
I also think that some of the pricing on older instruments are vrazy outrageous.. i thought spending $2000 on a bass was very pricey but I couldn't imagine spending anything over that. Believe me I'd love to own a 59 Les Paul but I'll never see that haha Cheers...
Well done! Making a correct guitar nut is a vitally important aspect of building and repairing. It's really an art, and many luthiers just don't understand.

Nothing can go wrong with an old vintage Gibson Les Paul, I love the ones from the 70´s, well, nothing can go wrong with any Gibson Les Paul but I do love the older ones more than new ones, even beaten up 80´s Gibson Les Paul´s have a history to tell :D thanks for the video.
Thanks a lot for watching and for sharing your opinion. You are totally correct I would say that the 90‘ Gibson were very good Instruments and are still available for a acceptance price 👍🕺🏻Best Regards Nik
A work of art. Brilliant. That material looks really good to work with. Each time I see a LP I regret getting shut of my one. I part exchanged it for a Martin 000-28 EC. Which is a great guitar.
@@petrekguitars the amp cover is indeed a highlight, and I regret to inform you I'll steal the idea 😂. Great craftsmanship and great quality video , thank you for sharing it!
I play some 60's guitars with a zero fret. I've re-fretted these guitars and noticed that the action I get at the 1st fret is reliably better than my guitars with a normal nut. Therefore when I cut a new nut, I measure the fret height as a guide for cutting the nut. It has to be slightly higher to allow for wear, (as with the zero fret), but I find that I can reliably get a good action because I can use a metal gauge at the nut to prevent me cutting too low.
Thanks a lot for your feedback. Yes especially old traditional German brands use to install zero Frets which is also a time saver in industrial guitar production because the nut has just the function to guid the strings in the correct spacing. Thanks for sharing your experience. Best Regards Nik

I have a 1974 Gold Top in similar condition, discoloured gold and very soft, flaking lacquer. Probably painted by the same person on a Friday afternoon.
Excellent work! I enjoyed watching this video so much. I wish you were in my area, I would definitely be bringing my Les Paul’s to you, that’s for certain! Thanks so much for sharing, you rock brother!
Hello my friend, looking at the gold top it seems as if it was exposed to direct heat or sunlight but the rest seems like humidity damage either way another great video
Thanks for your feedback. Yes that’s totally correct. I think there is a new Clear coat on the original finish and this was removed and sanded down on some areas. Best Regards Nik

Hands and brain, Magic ! thank U ! Just a question Nik : why don't you clean the fretboard with, for exemple, alcohol, and oiling with, for exemple, citrus oil, it's more easy without cords in the middle !

Take out the mini humbuckwra and put P90s in. Plug into a 50 watt Fender Bassman with a couple Greenback Marshall Cabs and you will have the BEST sounding rig on the planet!

This looks like it was in back shape and someone sanded it to a point and oversprayed a thin coat of gold metallic and over the years the overspray faded and showed the sanded layers below.
