I've done some guitar repairs and builds from kits but never did a real neck job..yes, the tross rod was really stuck, maybe a little moisture/ steam helps with getting the fretboard pinstripe off? nice trick with the endball..I still love these restaurations, nice Jag
Thank you so much for watching and for your feedback. Yes you are correct steam will make it much easier to loose the glue. But I try to avoid put some moisture into this bone dry neck it can cause some twisting and therefore I prefer the heating method. Stay tuned for the second part is coming up in two weeks. Thanks a lot for your kind words. It depends on the time I have to invest in a repair... In this case it took me like 3 days of work to finish it up. So what do you think is this effort worth ??? I am curious.... Best Regards Nik
I have watched all 5 videos of this repair guitar and I am amazed at your skill and dedication and your attention to detail. One question to ask , You profiled the neck at 7.25 and then profiled the fret board to fit it. Was this common practice with Fender in those days or did they fit the fingerboard to a flat neck .
Thank you so much for your kind words and for your interest in my Luthier Craftsmanship. There were several production versions. The first Rosewood Fingerboards were glued on a flat surface. They call them Slap Board. And then they changed the production to the so called veneer Boards. This Fingerboard were very thin and follow the 7,25 radius. They didn't make this time consuming process like I did in these Videos. They just glue them on ... Best Regards Nik
Them washers you pulled out of there are crazy never seen anything like that before i have seen people stack washers in these necks to get more of a turn on the truss rod it never ends well
The fret board looked like this wasn't its first rodeo those are the best ones to restore if some one played it that much you know it will sound awesome
@@denyel_ Thanks a lot for your question. Yes you are absolutely correct steam can be very helpful to soften the glue but I decided not to use steam because it also can cause deformation in the wood so I just use heat to chip away the old board. Best Regards Nik
Thanks a lot for watching and your positive comment 👍Not really if you handle it with care there is no big risk. It was more risky „not damaging“ the edge of the Neck at the glueing surface and that’s why I first remove the middle section and afterwards the sides. Stay tuned for part 2 coming up in two weeks. Best Regards Nik
Thanks for your Feedback Tommi, yes it was hard for me to but the Board was cut down from the previous refret jobs that you could see the maple in the Fret slot after removing the fret. Best Regards Nik
Thanks for your question. It's because I noticed that the Truss Rod is not working and it really make no sense to make a Fret Job with a broken or damaged Truss Rod.... Bewst Regards Nik
The only part of the truss rod cap'thats ever been walnut is only on the newer models that have the other kind of truss rod where the truss rod nut is at the headstock. They use a walnut plug to cover it up. They never used walnut in the older models that had the truss rod nut at the bottom of the neck, where you had to take the neck off to adjust the truss rod

The whole segment of getting the truss rod layer of wood over the top was painful to watch. You had the heat, all you had to do was hit the handle of that long tool. Prying upward isnt gunna do it, just snap the wood plank.the end of the tool is on top of the truss rod already so no damage there.
