Valkorian saw their love as weakness. Instead of pitting them against each other, he could've trained them to strengthen their emotions and harness them into power and rule together. As you said at the end, he believed himself above the Sith but that is false because he still acted just like them.

Valkorion betrayed the ideals of the eternal empire
This story is a very great example of « no one can deny their true self » He was born a sith, live like a sith while denying being one, and died as a sith, even in the body of a human. When you always dent who you are, your true self eventually catche you up… It’s like poetry, it rimes !

This is really tragic story. Arcann,Thexan are very nice characters. They're like Cain and Abel. Really sad story. Valkorian is extremely man. Extremely. Yeah valkorion was truely evil. But his eternal empire was meant to destroy both sith and jedi and bring peace and justice to the universe. Unfortunately, valkorion always stayed a sith at heart, betrayed the values of his new empire and his own family, resulting in death, destruction and chaos for the rest of the galaxy. This infighting was the cause of zakuuls, coruscants and dromund kaas's near destruction and if his family, the sith and the jedi had not united to banish tenebrae, he would have swallowed everything.
So, if valkorion had stayed balanced he would have been a just god. But in the end he would be remembered as an evil father, ruler and conqueror😢❤

The twins enslaved both the Sith Empire and the Sith order, and the Republic and the Jedi order, and are children of the strongest Sith of all times (legends) i think i got a pretty good idea just how powerful.

Not with KK and Disney at the helm, and with Lesley lurking in the corner to push all her radical femism and woke bs down our throats. I want a tv series, even several and not with that stupid 8 episode per season bs no no, give me the Arrow set up with between 18 to 25 episodes per season running almost an hour long. (that would be needed to establish the largest time period of star wars any way) but not with Disney in control.

A fart is more compelling than the other Star Wars story of twins, the one that Disney gave us, it is amongst the lowest of bars for many.
That aside, it is a good story on its own merits.

With Disney’s acquisition of Lucas Films these stories will never become a cinematic experiences whether it be movies or shows and to be honest I wouldn’t want them to touch it anyways. What’s funny is Disney calls fans misogynists and racists but tell this story and watch them fanboy out on Vaylin or her mother. They aren’t misogynist it’s just the “strong” feral characters they make have to have every male counterpart around them look like bumbling idiots to build her up. Star Wars has always had strong female characters that all these so-called misogynist toxic fans loved greatly.

Are Zakuul Knights function like fanfic Grey Jedi or does it fit into dichotomy somehow?
The Knights of Zakuul can be put in the category of Grey Jedi but as far if they function like fanfic greys, I'll let you decide. They're whole deal was that Valkorion himself bound their spirits to him in order to grant them Force-sensitivity. They were essentially the paladins of the Eternal Emperor and used the Force exclusively to serve their empire. They were allowed to study any aspect of the Force they desired with absolutely no restrictions on light or dark--simply whatever they found useful. The only stipulation was that the Emperor demanded that the knights share whatever they found instead of hoarding it like the Sith did. This would not only ensure that they never found something that could overthrow him, but it also promoted a system of growth for the wider Order rather than stagnation or worse, backstabbing.
Because the Knights of Zakuul were loyal to their Emperor and not to any specific side of the Force, it seemed that they were able to wield whatever power they desired so long as they studied and trained for it. (But as far as them using Force lightning or some of the deeper dark side abilities, we aren't aware of it as that usually requires one to become fully invested in the dark side--at least in legends continuity)
The difference with the Knights of Zakuul vs. fanfic Grey Jedi is that the knights don't adhere to the Will of the Force or try to attain perfect balance, they simply use whatever parts or abilities that aid them in their oath to serve the Emperor. Hope this helps!

Grandmaster Luke Skywalker beats everyone except for maybe Abeloth or The Son.
