Agree on the wild type. But I do admit there are some morphs I really enjoy. The Picasso and blackout can make interesting snakes. I would LOVE to see an albino pied and I like both versions of the albino. That said… the normals are so satisfying I’d never not have them. So beautiful.
Recently subbed and really enjoying your content. I kept a pacific gopher and guyana boa for years but I wanted a "safer" snake for my toddler to interact with. I could not be more happy with my choice for getting her a western hognose snake. After teaching her how to interact with them and snakes in general, I can be 100% confident to let her hold them on her own without them biting. I even fell in love with them and now we have 3 hoggies and will try breeding 2 of them once they are ready. I think corn snakes make great safe snakes for kids as well.
I really appreciate that, thank you. Hognoses are very good (and adorable) snakes. I’ll be doing a video on each species I keep. And I keep an Eastern Fox snake in the same genus as corns. That’ll come out in the following weeks and months as we go through the series. You may be right!
@@HogstrictorsGood choice! I've been considering either a Hognose or an African house snake for my daughter. Shes been asking us for a snake for her birthday for 2 years now. Its hard to pick what to get her though. Her 1st snake is a big deal to me lol. Such a proud moment for me. Part of me wants to let her get something she could make into a future breeding project if she wanted. Then I could let her sell the hatchlings and keep the money to help teach her about money and what not. Ive been looking at Angolan pythons too for this reason, because they would be really awesome to breed. Im also considering getting her an Irian Jaya carpet python, because we already have an awesome 9 year old male that id let her use for breeding. They are one of my favorites too. They dont need it very warm or very humid compared to other pythons. They are basically as hardy as a cornsnake, just bigger. They are extraordinarily underrated. Much easier to keeo than other members or the Morelia genus. I think thats why they went unnoticed by most. People assumed they were less beginner friendly than they really are. My 9 year old male IJ carpet python is 6ft, which i think is the perfect size for many people. Hes never skipped a meal or had an incomplete shed. I only have to mist him when hes shedding. They are rock solid snakes. Couldnt be easier. Oh yeah, my daughter is literally off the charts for height. Shes a big kid. So a 6ft snake wouldnt be a problem for her. She thinks any snake under 6ft is "so little" and "cute". We keep an African rock python, and a pair or burmese pythons and a pair or reticulated pythons as pets. So to her, i guess it makes sense for a 6ft snake to seem small. We have bigger snakes at home than they have at our local zoo after all lol. She says she wants to work at a zoo when she gets older.
Awesome man. I love all that. I hope she’s interested in keeping snakes because it sure seems like you’re passionate. If you like IJ (now I believe they’re referred to as Papuans) you should check out Riley’s Reptiles on TH-cam. He has produced a clutch or two just this year.
Muy bien
Gracias!
I would never buy one of the morphs... the "normal" type is arguably the most beautiful snakes on the planet; inarguably in the top 10.

1000% agree
I’m getting a pet snake for my kid, not sure if I’d do a rainbow boa though. Probably a ball Python.
That’s awesome!
