Outpost siege deals damage even if he pathes a creature since its a "Leave the battlefield" trigger and not death trigger. Played it alot on Dragons since its really strong in my favorite archetype in legacy cube (BR Sacrifice aggro, 9/10 times on Dragon with that deck)
Game 1 - Don't block with Abbot and you have the win on board and hand (assuming he doesn't hit a creature off Matter Reshaper after you bolt it). Play Swiftspear, bolt the Matter Reshaper trigger prowess x2, attack with everything for 11 dmg.
Maybe he should start playing with buddy lands then? it does require at least one basic/specific land type to come in untapped, but at least it doesn't deal you damage in the long run. They are pretty budget as far as i know.
Filip Tryhuk Yeah, but I doubt he would've fetched a second untapped shock instead of a basic, meaning he would've only taken 4 damage from his lands had he drawn two fetches instead of the sulfurous springs, which would have kept him alive. Then again, if he had drawn a shock instead of a second fetch, he would've still taken 5 and lost, but if he drew shock, then fetch, he would've only taken 3... this is getting confusing.
Cmon Seth you usually admit when you make an oversight you went from "we lose to another reality smasher" to bashing your lands. Your play was pretty risky in my opinion. Still keep up the sweet content !
To be fair to Seth, if he didn't have to lose life to his lands, he wouldn't have lost to a hierarch. It definitely was a risky play, but he was not technically wrong in complaining about his lands.
I wasn't trying to complain, just educate. I the articles for Budget Magic often say things like "this build is just slightly worse than that build" or "in many matches budget decks play exactly the same as non-budget decks, but then there will be a small percent of games you lose because you're budget" and I thought this was a good, irl example of how running "budget" lands can end up costing us a game. As far as the line, I'm still leaning towards the attack being correct even though the end results weren't great.
You're paying B for a sorcery speed Bolt that doesn't hit creatures. Forget Flashback, at a cost of 6 that isn't happening except in games you've already lost. If he even wanted it, there are a plethora of better options out there like say Rift Bolt
I'm not sure fetches and shocks would have done you any favors here. Assuming you started with 1 fetch and 1 shock, I think you probably would have ended up paying about the same amount of life to them (5). My guess is you would have fetch land T1 into a shock to bolt hierarch. T2 swamp packrat, T3 shock rabble master.
Jesse Thibault Remember that Seth has a habit of fetching basics when he needs an untapped land unless it is absolutely necessary. And besides, he had two swamps in hand. That's enough black sources.
I always find it so satisfying when a budget deck beats down some meta monster.
I love watching your videos, Seth. They always lift my spirits!

Outpost siege on dragons is a bit of utility no one ever expects.
Mr. ShinyObject Mr shiny!!!
In game one, why not Terminate the smasher, discard Crusher?
"Drowner is their only hope"
Sounds weird.
main worry I'd have going the pack rat route vs bant-drazi is that displacer can pick apart your army.

game one you blame pain lands but if you had fetched a shock you would have taken the same amount of damage
Kyle McHale Not in the long run. He lost life to that land several times that game.

I had the buddylands too.
Kyle McHale Lands dealt 5 damage. Less than two fetched shocks.

If he'd taken the beats instead of blocking with Abbot, I think he'd have just won game 1.

MTGGoldfish In this particular example one Fetch+ Shock followed by a Shock would kill you anyways. Pain Lands dealt 5 total damage to you that game.
I count 6 damage. I think it's a reason not to play countryside crusher though. Abbot is questionable as well even in budget.
A board full of pack rats is pretty... packed.
hey, is this a app the thing that shows your deck on the screen? whats the name?
Why did you scoop game one? We have no idea what the last card is and rabble master generates another attacker to get in for 3?
Jonathan Hart Noble Hierarch has exalted meaning the Smasher attacks for 6.
Ratdos aggro ftw. :D
How would you make Non-budget Rakdos?
Follow the link in the description!
Would Bump in the Night not be good here?

Even Shock would be better.

"Drowner is their hope..." Heh. Heh heh. Heh heh heh. I see what you did there....
Arent shocks only like 1$ on mtgo???
Yeah, but I try to keep the deck budget in paper as well.
I wish I could find someone to love me like Seth loves Pack Rat
Why not play rabblemaster after combat?
That probably should have been a good idea.
you could have easily won game one with a different line
u get the token at combat , playing it post-combat gives no token
Pedro Ruiz My bad, that'll teach me to actually read the card.
This deck is a potato he must have played it a thousand times just for it to get this far
1/10? more like 1/100
