    This is one of the great Roth tv apearences. He sings on beat and in key...then hes funny and not to crazy with Letterman.

    Dave was on the right track here. Should have stuck to it. This aged well. He looks and sounds age appropriate and could have cruised gracefully into a better career as an older performer.

    I remember watching this back in the day. Great version of this song and a fantastic vocal performance by DLR. I gotta say, though, I remember seeing Harry Anderson (Night Court judge) do this trick in his stand up. Either way, DLR is the best.

    'A lil Aint Enough' was a kick ass album. Some great guitar work via Jason Becker & the songs were classic Diamond Dave. I think when this appearance happened, Becker was already suffering from ALS (or whatever it is he has). I think this is Joe Holmes on guitar.

      I'm sure it is Joe Holmes as Joe joined DLR on this tour to replace Jason as I remember. I saw Joe playing for Ozzy Osbourne on the (Ozzmosis) Retirement Sucks tour in 1995.

I saw Ozzy w/Sabbath in 1999 , I think ...maybe it was 2000..? Anyways , he was phenominal for that show .

      @@hazor777 Hi, The Ozzy show was great! First time seeing Ozzy.. Geezer Butler on bass, Randy Castillo drums RIP, Joe Holmes lead, John Sinclair on keys. Got front row in front of amp as it was a small gig in Wolverhampton. I remember Ozzy spraying us with a water gun! Also saw Ozzy with Sabbath 1997 and 2014. Nearly bought tickets to see him play with Judas Priest, glad I didn't now.

      Yeah Jason never made it out on tour with Dave. He barely finished the album. I met him in 1990-91 he had to use a cane and even then was barely able to walk. Nicest guy in the world and an unbelievably awesome career cut way too short

    Tell the truth sounded really on point.Dave always gets a hard time about his live vocal performances but in all fairness, if you ran like seven miles on a stage while doing crazy acrobatics you’d be a little out of breath and would find it hard to hold pitch too,what you gain in an amazing front man you lose a little bit in pitch which is understandable.

    David Lee Roth looks good here. I really think that David Letterman and David Lee Roth had a good friendship as they joke a lot with each other. In my opinion they joke more with each other than what David Letterman normally does with the people that he interviewed during his show. :)

      @@calibanjrDave had a killer voice in the 80s 90s up until the late 2000s. He may not be the greatest singer but his voice stands out much more then all the other 80s singers because his lyrics, screams and unique voice sets him apart.

    Dave sounded really good here, it does sound like Black Velvet ha ha, his voice didn't start going downhill till about 2000. Saw him for the 2007 tour and he actually sounded decent and when I saw him for the tour on that new album, I promised I wouldn't see them again, unless he worked on getting it back.

Even in ‘99, he sang “Slam Dunk” and I was thinking, he doesn’t need Van Halen, people were still going nuts over him, women throwing their bras at him, insanely kool, but I guess he feels like his legacy is with Eddie and the VH brand. Too bad. 😊 At least Hagar still sings and plays his solo stuff.

      @@FrankieLovesElvis i’d argue that as early as 1988 Dave wished he was still in VH. I don’t think he really ever wanted to leave that band. I’ve always maintained when Dave was in VH there was no bigger fan of that band than him. The guy lives for the stage but who knows if he’ll ever tour again.

      I think at the time what he meant was he had 9 and a half platinum records. Meaning 9 albums platinum (including his 6 with VH, then Crazy From The Heat, Eat Em, and Skyscraper) and a half platinum (meaning A Little which was Gold. Gold was 500,000 so it was half a platinum record.) I know it's weird. But Dave always had weird way of putting things.

      yeah back then i never compared the two but that's all anyone has been saying since i posted this and i do hear it. on that album there was much worse offender in the song "Last Call" which sounds just like "Walk This Way."     Personally I think it is a great record. Amazing playing from Jason and Steve Hunter and they are great Dave songs. All you can do is be yourself and his writing style is very distinctive and always unmistakably him. Say what you will but he's a rock and roll icon without a doubt. As with many, being an amazing singer isn't a prerequisite. And he's got a nearly deplorable excess of personality. But...
    That said, 9x platinum my ass Dave. That record sold nowhere near that then or even through today. Not even close. Where the fuck did he get that number from? Then again I like that he didn't over fib just a little. Even his white lies are larger than life. LMAO

    Really enjoyed DLR here. Liked the Diamond Dave "Crooner Style"- he's all grown-up here! His voice has a smoldering sex appeal here, well, so does he! He is very likeable and intelligent. Love a man who knows what a cuban heel is!

After Vai left him about this time in this vid, his voice started going south by the mid 90s, listen to "Me Wise Magic" that reunion he did with the Halens and Mike, he can't scream, that song was in 96 that was 24 years ago he was only like 42 then. Sad waste

Van Halen was awesome and when you go back and view the tapes of them playing in Eddie's backyard, it was with Dave. Yes Sammy Hagar is also awesome. Badass and Van Halen had some of their greatest songs with him. But it all began with Dave and the Van Halen brothers. Leave him alone. Damn.

      no it's not jason, he was already getting pretty sick, he had to drop out before finishing the album. it's guitarist joe holmes who went out on tour for the record.
