@@Simbaninogaming Probably not for now, as I suspect trying to make a set with these build up boost augments might leave no room to max the other critical skills required for Hammer ; I would wait for Crit eye/Attack boost/We /CB to get their level 4 decos, and build up boost to become a decoration itself
I am so glad impact crater is a thing of the past, hate that move, but I'm kinda sad strenght hammer is being left in the dark compared to courage, elemental damage is so dominant in sunbreak that is is really hard to compete with it
Something I noticed is getting Dragonheart from augments is probably the best way to go, just filling in with dragonheart decos if absolutely necessary. Sacrificing a 4 slot is pretty rough, but augments can really compensate.
Plus one sub. I’m glad to have some sort of hammer guide for Sunbreak in the future. Although I played on the switch for a bit of time, I swapped to the consoles/Xbox and never really looked up a build: I just went with some weird burst frenzy build with using Valstrax (normal) hammer. I found your Content cause I was trying to optimize a courage hammer set, but after watching like 3 of these awesome videos now I've decided to give strength hammer a serious try. I've got about 350 hunts with hammer but I've only ever used courage with status hammers since I play mostly with my GF, but we've hit the end game of sunbreak and status hammers aren't really cutting it anymore and I don't want to make a set for each element for courage, so I'm gonna try and make a couple raw sets for strength, great content we are also super excited for Wild Hearts :)
When I was playing base Rise I had dropped playing hammer despite it was my favourite weapon in all games. It was because of the brainless Impact Crater being the only viable dps option and Courage Hammer was shit. I am really glad we have come so far.
Current Sunbreak STR Hammer style feel simple and methodical like old hammer, A LOT, with bonus of Keeping Sway skill that is a godsend skill for hammer.
Can't wait for wild hearts and also the layered armor video since I'm a layered armor junkie in this game , I spend hours just testing outfit combos and half the time I end up deleting them because I don't like the way they look

I'd subscribe twice if I could! Thanks for this video! Amazing as always. Simply the best thoughts on hammer to be found anywhere (coming from a new-ish player who does not have Sunbreak yet). I'm happy to say I learned hammer well enough to solo through to HR 120 and I'm continuing, while waiting for Sunbreak for the PS5. My skills have a long ways to go, however. I find that the better you do, the more you see that isn't so good. Always room to improve. So much, that I wonder if I'll even try to learn another weapon really well, but I'll try some. I look forward to more of these videos. And Wild Hearts does look great, right? I was going to get it, but then I decided not to, when I got Rise and it was so much work to get to where I am. However now, I'm back to getting Wild Hearts, because at HR 120 I'm sort of in a spot where I don't have to play Rise as much while waiting for Sunbreak, so maybe there is time to fit Wild Hearts in after all. It isn't a good launch window for Wild Hearts, but I hope it does well! I look forward to videos on it, as well.
After testing it, I can confirm that Dragon Conversion is actually terrible and too difficult to build for. I recommend using Dereliction but maybe using a point of Bloodrite if you really hate the HP loss. Strife will still be active most of the time even if you recover health.
Impact crater: what am I good at Sunbreak: sleep wake ups (mostly on raw strength builds) Impact crater: anything else Sunbreak: sleep wake ups Jokes aside yeah pretty dead unless doing it for style points but man Raw hammers needs some love good lord using courage endlessly is like playing GU again but more flexibility (which I like but you know, you know 😭😭😭)
Meanwhile the meta subreddit album still never mentions Goss hammer. They have now said Chameleos is finally lagging behind and thus not recommended and Scorned Magnamalo has taken its place for some reason (for strength). But then those aren't necessarily speedrunner based unlike here. They do however mention Tigrex>Goss but also they mention that without Rousing Roar from a cat it falls behind Scorned. Since I'm not doing more on Switch and waiting for Sunbreak on Xbox to do it all over again I don't know what I will use since it will take a while to even get back what I have on Switch. Especially since charms and eventually Qurio will be different for me and progression will be different just like it was in the base game. On Xbox I basically brute forced my way to Valstrax and once I got that I was "done" for my main set.
I have tested Scorned's Hammer. It falls behind Goss and Tigrex ; Blast is just terrible in this game, and it has low blast on top ; Blast cannot make up for the fact that its raw is weaker than Goss and Rex. It also has pretty low sharpness compared to them ; in the future if Build-up Boost becomes available as a deco, maybe it will shine.
For progression, I didn't really charm farm until MR10. Once there, you can just beat chaotic and start melding for the skill you want. It hasn't been too bad, but knowing that all the decorations I want/need are still quite a ways away i haven't really set build. MR grind is okay, but I'm also farming up AR along with it in order to unlock the decos. At least you'll have downtime until spring if you already have everything grinded out, or could even build up other weapons.
@@dynamo_lynn Hmm I see. I know when it comes to GS apparently Scorned is the best. I guess on Xbox I will make the Tigrex hammer for when I can upgrade it in Sunbreak.
For the base game, you can stick to the full Valstrax Armor with the Nargacuga Hammer for raw Strength Hammer. For Courage Hammer, use a mix-set with the basic critical skills, and add your element 5 + crit element 3, and then sharpness management/attack boost if you have space.
I have a little amount of faith of Velkhana giving us very decent ice weapons. But it appears that it's greaves are still it's better part of the set in general. Just like with AT.... Do I miss AT Velkhana? A lot
Insane in depth guide as always🙏🏼, quick question I see everyone running utsushi/hinoa HH follower. Are these 2 combined the best? I usually pick hinoa and minoto both with HH. Does utsushi provide something the other twin doesn't have?
Hinoa and Utsushi both have Hunting horns that provide Attack Up/element up songs, that's why they are the best However with the content of the game being progressively harder, I like to bring only one of these two and then another follower such as Minoto who has very high HP so they can last the entire hunt without needing a revival
@@Appei473 I would like to add, apart from the element up, Utsushi also has blight negate. I usually bring him vs monsters that does a lot of blight like Bazel. Minoto also has stinkmink. It's nice that the monster will get distracted for a while to give you a breather to heal or sharpen and really helps if I'm using bow or bowguns, but I find it harder to chase monsters if I'm using melees. My other option is Rondine with SwAxe since she can help with paralysis, can heal and use defense powder and also sets up traps.

Chaotic Gore Hammer is very bad, ironically because it has too much affinity and has a very bad -30% affinity out of bloodlust. Devil's Die is not good, I have tested it. Might become good in later updates if Build Up boost becomes a deco.
@@kikolektrique1737 No worries, but really I think people should experiment with Fine Kamura because you can use any skills you want with it. If you want maximum power go Goss Harag, but if you want power+any utility you want (more KO, more sharpness, evasion skills, etc) Fine Kamura is the absolute best
@@dynamo_lynn Surely Dragonheart it's not very efficient for raw weapons. But in combination with Dragon conversion it provides +62 element, and you can even pair it with the Valstrax soul rampage skill for an extra 20% dragon damage. Quite ridiculous tbh. Also as you can now get Dragonheart as a qurio augment it is much more affordable.
@@aiexmonsterhunter Yes, but the issue is that the Risen CGV pieces are average despite their great slots, and make it difficult to get the most essential skills such as Critical eye 6, WE, CB, etc, especially not with the lack of new level 4 decoration for these skills.

What’s the current palamute meta? In terms of gear and perks. Also, how does their attack cycle work such that courage* hammer makes them do the better attack more?
I explained it in the video. They do their strongest move, the whirlwind, when Courage uses its level 3 charge. Attacks from Palamutes are tied to Hunter attacks, and it's up to the devs which palamutes attacks they tied to which hunter attack. As for gear, element skills, crit, and attack up along with Melee-centric with the chained blades and flurry strike scroll.

I know that they use the whirlwind with Gunlance's Hail Cutter, and the discovery of that actually made Hail Cutter GL meta, because the dogs do so much damage and pretty much patch how weak gunlance is
Do you have a universal courage hammer build? Like a set of armor and skills that would work with any elemental hammer? I'm just personally too lazy to grind out a bunch of sets lmaoo
Have a few questions: - do you not consider Thunder tree Hammer over Narwa? It has rampage 3 slot. Makes you get ele 7 augment - is Devil's Die that inferior to Goss or Tigrex? The free sharpness from augment makes it easier to maintain purple - Even if BuB becomes a deco, is it viable on hammer? It only triggers with rolls or Redirection, not with switch skills lile Keeping Sway. On Strength you are basically charging or using Keeping Sway to dodge. Could you evade roll, keep the charge, find the opening and be within the 12 seconds that BuB give you? I am genuinely asking here. Not trying to start a heated argument. I'd love to use an Adrenaline Rush/BuB set with Hammer but dunno if it would work
- It's only after this update that Elembane has become worth it on Hammer, so I didn't have time to test it properly ; the Hyper Nova hammer is indeed worth it for Thunder matchups with 25 Element hitzone. - Devil's Die is now a great Hammer as well, same thing, I didn't mention it because I didn't have time to make a proper set for it and test its damage ; you'll see that since I posted this guide, I have a couple runs where I used it. You need 3 build up boost augments using the regular augment system for it though which is what makes it a pain to get on the same level as Tigrex and Goss Harag. - I think you meant to talk about Status Trigger here. I have tested it and it's absolutely awful. Using points for evasion on Hammer is just not worth it. Rolling with it is a waste of time, always resets your charges, and has horrible synergy with Keeping Sway which is the only evasion Hammer needs and doesn't trigger Status Trigger. Also Strength can't keep a charge when it rolls, only Keeping sway allows it to do this. I spent like 50 tries doing a Risen Kushala quest to test absolutely all the raw stacking possible including Adrenaline rush etc with Evasion and it was way too much trouble for worst damage than what I normally use. These are good questions so I'm confused as to why there should be a heated argument. Hope I answered you properly
A question I have for Strength. Since the Kamura Hammer is good again, what about the Seregios and Royal Order Hammers? Is it mostly because of the slots that Kamura wins out on?
Royal Order Hammer is a bit low on raw and Fine Kamura stacks Resentment and can easily get that extra 10% affinity the Seregios hammer has thanks to its slots. Sorry, but Seregios just cannot catch a break in this game.
Hey boss thanks for the vid. I'm a returning casual player from TU1 trying to switch from Impact Crater to Impact Burst, how do you know when to use Charged Brutal Big Bang vs Big Bang Combo on big openings? Any tips in general on using Impact Burst?
My apologies for the late response. For Big Bang Vs. Charged Brutal Big Bang I recommend you watch my TU2 video, I explain there precisely what the best damage is on big openings with both hammers. I personally like to use Impact Burst at the beginning of every hunt and I almost always reset it when the monster is KO'd.
Question: on the Courage sets, both Dereliction and Mail of Hellfire are listed on the same sets. Dereliction increases element on the Red Scroll, Mail of Hellfire does it on the Blue Scroll. So which Scroll are you usually fighting in then? It's worth using both even though they boost element on different Scrolls?
Good question, I should've gave more details about this. Indeed, I use the Blue Swap Scroll because the raw boost from Dereliction is better. That's why it has excellent synergy with Mail of Hellfire for Courage.
How would you rank skill priority for courage for these skills: Burst, Critical Element, Elemental Exploit, Charge master if I can't fit them all in? Thanks. And is it more efficient to use CE7 and WEX 2 rather than less CE and WEX3? I see that in a lot of your sets
Critical Element, Element Exploit (1 is enough), Charge Master, Burst. For affinity it depends on your sets and augments. I do use Weakness exploit 2 lately but that's because I already have a lot of affinity stacked, with CE, Bloodlust and Strife
Nice guide there. Meanwhile I would like to ask if derelication this skill reduce more hp by having higher level? Or it reduce the same hp but have better buffs only? Also, I has read some playstyle involving the Spinning Bludgeon: Charge. You can charge and spin to max charge, then able execute Charge Switch and maintain full charge and perform a level3 attack. Then charge and change back to normal state again and spin again... repeating. Not sure how is the dps...but I saw someone played that way and it look interesting.
Dereliction levels only affects the buffs. The HP drain is the same. Blaze MH likes to experiment with Spinning Bludgeon Charge but I personally don't like it. It has low Motion Values which is it's main issue but it has its uses. I just never bother using it.
Oh, so impact crater is actually not that good. I was wondering about this since the numbers just don't look that impressive. Honestly, I only ever used it occasionally because I thought it was good. I will gladly remove it from my sets as I never really liked it.
Hi! Between Goss Harag and Tigrex hammer what would you choose? As you said the seems to be extemely similar but maybe is better to build one in some cases xD
Goss Harag offers slightly more flexibility with its slot and higher affinity. If you can't choose I'd go with Fine Kamura, it's really the easiest to build for and you can use pretty much anything you want with it, and it's still plenty strong.

Tbh, STR hammer shine brightest in Multiplayer, basicly with current playstyle we can completely avoid toss teammates 100 percent and do ridicolous bonk and stun damage. Courage hammer style WILL and i repeat, the second charge attack WILL toss teammates on heated moment because we need mostly to shuffle between 1-2-3

For Strength Hammer the Nargacuga and Tigrex Hammers are your best picks. For Courage Element hammers, Almudron, Narwa, probably Rathalos for Fire Element, and for Ice Goss Harag. Dragon there's both Valstrax and Dark Morte. Playing through the game though I recommend you stick to Strength.
What’s wrong with impact crater?? I was a hammer main in base rise and loved that move it did crazy damage and felt so satisfying to land and only ever heard praise about it. Are people just tired of it?
To give some context to my comment about it in the video, yes. People are tired of impact crater because it was the only source of good damage of Hammer in (Base) Rise. Not anymore after sunbreak due to hammers moveset having been buffed - but now it's actually really too weak for how difficult it is to use.
If you are just a casual or semi casual player it's okay to not use Dereliction. You can replace the arms or legs with the Risen Crimson Glow Valstrax arms or legs (both have good points and great slots) , or the Scorned Magnamalo arms for Mail of Hellfire 1
I currently just started playing Base Rise for PlayStation and after some time with SnS would like to try out Hammer. Anyone know of any Hammer video that teaches Hammer fundamentals? Whether it’s from Rise, World, or another game where the fundamentals are transferable? Instead of just speedrun videos, ideally something with commentary. Im a Lance main from Tri and World but for Rise I decided to main another weapon and I’m very, very interested with moving forward with the Hammer. Dynamo’s videos are a big reason. Hammer looks so fun in his hands. I struggle with the defensive side of things since Base Rise doesn’t have access to Keeping Sway as a defensive tool and I don’t have Water Strike yet for parrying. You are in luck my friend: th-cam.com/video/Ls7NoUHCUGU/w-d-xo.html I made this guide for Sunbreak but the only things inaccessible in base Rise are Keeping Sway and Impact Burst. You still have Water Strike, Aerial Spinning Bludgeon is actually quite fun to use instead of Keeping Sway, and all of the fundamentals I talk about in this video still apply for base Rise.
This is false and I have already tested it. The lack of raw on Scorned's Hammer in comparison to Rex and Goss Harag's Hammer in particular cannot be made up for, neither by Scorned's Blast damage which is terrible in this game, nor Build-Up Boost, because even with Augments it will still sacrifice other skills (such as Attack Boost). Build-up Boost is also only a 1/3 chance to proc its damage boost, and trying to pair it with Status Trigger is going to make your set even worse. Lastly, it has overall worse sharpness management than the Hammers I recommend.
@@dynamo_lynn With BuB's 6.6% effective raw buff (considering the 33.3% chance) and AB7's % raw buff, scorned mango is just 3%ish short in raw vs goss/tigrex, while having an immensely better opportunity cost because of no negative affinity and way better slots, giving you access to MT3, so never needing to sharpen, not relying on bloodlust to have 100% affinity, and much more flexibility in general. Obviously, the massive downside is needing to triple roll augment for BuB. There is also the RNG aspect of BuB where you can be really lucky and really unlucky, and getting lucky with BuB procs can be insane. Overall I'd say that at this point I'd rather play BuB or Kamura over goss or tigrex
@@dynamo_lynn Actually scratch that, I thought status weapons didn't get raw boost from aug slots, but they do, so base raw with just slots no aug is 350 for magna, 365 for goss and 380 for tigrex, which when multiplied by the respective raw% buff multipliers (AB7 for all and BuB for scorned) results in 408 raw for scorned mango (33.3% BuB uptime, 455 when it procs), 401 raw for goss and 418 for tigrex. So it's actually not even close, Scorned Magna is just much better due to the better slots and affinity.
@@freewaytf The Kamura Hammer is the first one I presented for this yes, it is extremely flexible while not sacrificing much power. I disagree with the Bloodlust argument because realistically nobody except absolutely relentless speedrunners, which even I'm not, is going to play Dereliction sets without Bloodlust. It is too easy to get and offers too much utility wise. Even for Scorned you cannot give it up since then you'll have only 90% affinity which will make your damage even more inconsistent compared to what I've shown. I'm also not sure it's possible to make a set that has Bub 3 and AB7 and CE7 AND MT3, unless we're talking about modded augments, which I don't do.
@@dynamo_lynn Since we also don't need to compromise with affinity augments on magna and we can go all in on attack guilt free, vs atk aug 3 and aff aug1 on tigrex, the effective raw difference with augments+slots is actually just 431 on magna and 434 on tigrex, literally just 3 more raw attack.

I had this video out only one week after the update, I didn't have time to test everything. The Scorned Magnamalo hammer is good with Courage for specific matchups where Element doesn't work as well. For Strength it's pretty good as well.
I never liked elemental based gameplay. The constant switching while doing multi monster quests is annoying and its just boring to play every weapon the same way. I was and forever will be a raw and status focused player. I dont care how "bad" it is...the synergy within the set is what counts for me. I play poison strength Hammer with Build Up Boost and Chameleos Blessing. I just like the OG Hammer gameplay more.
No one's telling you to play anything else. My comment on Strength is just stating facts, nothing else. I don't support people to stop playing Strength, I even said it's my favorite and I'll still play it.

Initially dismissed Wild Hearts at first because while it looks cool, I don't think it'll play like Monster Hunter, aside from the fact that you are hunting monsters. Definitely wouldn't mind watching gameplay for it, but whether I'd get it is up in the air. My friend will give me shit for it if I do get it, though, because I told her, very sternly, that no, I will not get it. Surprising to see FIne Kamura here for strength hammer, but Goss is a familiar face …hammer. Have you've seen the MHMeta thread for TU4 and the hammer meta page specifically? What do you think about Devil's Die being their go-to strength hammer? I believe it was their hammer of choice for TU3 as well while you were using Goss. Don't know if you mentioned it back then. Anyway, great vid, very informative. ty ty. Great insight into Hammers. You and Blaze were my first "mentors" while starting out Hammer, so always a joy to see your videos. Grats on 5k!
Not to belittle them at all but whoever makes the Hammer meta on the Meta subreddit has been pretty wrong for quite a while now, especially for Strength. In the case of Devil's Die, it has lower sharpness management than the Hammers I show + it can't keep up damage wise with Tigrex/Goss Harag because Blast is so bad in this game it can't even make up for its lower raw. This isn't just my opinion, been discussing this with BlazeMH too who is arguably the best western Hammer player along with me
@@dynamo_lynn Looking at the differences in the builds, seems they assume players will qurio craft in 3 Mail of Hellfire, which gives 35 raw on red scroll, equal to your Dereliction, which they don't use. They also have Coalescence at 3, but that's only an extra 6 raw over Coalescence 1, which doesn't exactly hold up to the 30 extra attack on Goss lol. I think the idea for their build is that Master's Touch 3 for the sharpness management is more convenient for the casual player who might not farm for Great Whetfish, but it's a moot point since you already mentioned your build is for speedrunning. +Defiance 3 is so smooth

@@Simbaninogaming Probably not for now, as I suspect trying to make a set with these build up boost augments might leave no room to max the other critical skills required for Hammer ; I would wait for Crit eye/Attack boost/We /CB to get their level 4 decos, and build up boost to become a decoration itself

Something I noticed is getting Dragonheart from augments is probably the best way to go, just filling in with dragonheart decos if absolutely necessary. Sacrificing a 4 slot is pretty rough, but augments can really compensate.

Plus one sub. I’m glad to have some sort of hammer guide for Sunbreak in the future. Although I played on the switch for a bit of time, I swapped to the consoles/Xbox and never really looked up a build: I just went with some weird burst frenzy build with using Valstrax (normal) hammer.

I found your Content cause I was trying to optimize a courage hammer set, but after watching like 3 of these awesome videos now I've decided to give strength hammer a serious try. I've got about 350 hunts with hammer but I've only ever used courage with status hammers since I play mostly with my GF, but we've hit the end game of sunbreak and status hammers aren't really cutting it anymore and I don't want to make a set for each element for courage, so I'm gonna try and make a couple raw sets for strength, great content we are also super excited for Wild Hearts :)
When I was playing base Rise I had dropped playing hammer despite it was my favourite weapon in all games. It was because of the brainless Impact Crater being the only viable dps option and Courage Hammer was shit. I am really glad we have come so far.
Current Sunbreak STR Hammer style feel simple and methodical like old hammer, A LOT, with bonus of Keeping Sway skill that is a godsend skill for hammer.

I'd subscribe twice if I could! Thanks for this video! Amazing as always. Simply the best thoughts on hammer to be found anywhere (coming from a new-ish player who does not have Sunbreak yet). I'm happy to say I learned hammer well enough to solo through to HR 120 and I'm continuing, while waiting for Sunbreak for the PS5. My skills have a long ways to go, however. I find that the better you do, the more you see that isn't so good. Always room to improve. So much, that I wonder if I'll even try to learn another weapon really well, but I'll try some. I look forward to more of these videos.
And Wild Hearts does look great, right? I was going to get it, but then I decided not to, when I got Rise and it was so much work to get to where I am. However now, I'm back to getting Wild Hearts, because at HR 120 I'm sort of in a spot where I don't have to play Rise as much while waiting for Sunbreak, so maybe there is time to fit Wild Hearts in after all. It isn't a good launch window for Wild Hearts, but I hope it does well! I look forward to videos on it, as well.

After testing it, I can confirm that Dragon Conversion is actually terrible and too difficult to build for. I recommend using Dereliction but maybe using a point of Bloodrite if you really hate the HP loss. Strife will still be active most of the time even if you recover health.

Jokes aside yeah pretty dead unless doing it for style points but man Raw hammers needs some love good lord using courage endlessly is like playing GU again but more flexibility (which I like but you know, you know 😭😭😭)
Meanwhile the meta subreddit album still never mentions Goss hammer. They have now said Chameleos is finally lagging behind and thus not recommended and Scorned Magnamalo has taken its place for some reason (for strength). But then those aren't necessarily speedrunner based unlike here. They do however mention Tigrex>Goss but also they mention that without Rousing Roar from a cat it falls behind Scorned.
Since I'm not doing more on Switch and waiting for Sunbreak on Xbox to do it all over again I don't know what I will use since it will take a while to even get back what I have on Switch. Especially since charms and eventually Qurio will be different for me and progression will be different just like it was in the base game. On Xbox I basically brute forced my way to Valstrax and once I got that I was "done" for my main set.
I have tested Scorned's Hammer. It falls behind Goss and Tigrex ; Blast is just terrible in this game, and it has low blast on top ; Blast cannot make up for the fact that its raw is weaker than Goss and Rex. It also has pretty low sharpness compared to them ; in the future if Build-up Boost becomes available as a deco, maybe it will shine.
For progression, I didn't really charm farm until MR10. Once there, you can just beat chaotic and start melding for the skill you want. It hasn't been too bad, but knowing that all the decorations I want/need are still quite a ways away i haven't really set build. MR grind is okay, but I'm also farming up AR along with it in order to unlock the decos. At least you'll have downtime until spring if you already have everything grinded out, or could even build up other weapons.
@@dynamo_lynn Hmm I see. I know when it comes to GS apparently Scorned is the best. I guess on Xbox I will make the Tigrex hammer for when I can upgrade it in Sunbreak.
Hey boss, you got any idea on builds for console version? It’s basically pre sunbreak but with the new weapon patches, is elemental good base game?
For the base game, you can stick to the full Valstrax Armor with the Nargacuga Hammer for raw Strength Hammer. For Courage Hammer, use a mix-set with the basic critical skills, and add your element 5 + crit element 3, and then sharpness management/attack boost if you have space.

Insane in depth guide as always🙏🏼, quick question I see everyone running utsushi/hinoa HH follower. Are these 2 combined the best? I usually pick hinoa and minoto both with HH. Does utsushi provide something the other twin doesn't have?
Hinoa and Utsushi both have Hunting horns that provide Attack Up/element up songs, that's why they are the best
However with the content of the game being progressively harder, I like to bring only one of these two and then another follower such as Minoto who has very high HP so they can last the entire hunt without needing a revival

@@Appei473 I would like to add, apart from the element up, Utsushi also has blight negate. I usually bring him vs monsters that does a lot of blight like Bazel.
Minoto also has stinkmink. It's nice that the monster will get distracted for a while to give you a breather to heal or sharpen and really helps if I'm using bow or bowguns, but I find it harder to chase monsters if I'm using melees.
My other option is Rondine with SwAxe since she can help with paralysis, can heal and use defense powder and also sets up traps.

Chaotic Gore Hammer is very bad, ironically because it has too much affinity and has a very bad -30% affinity out of bloodlust. Devil's Die is not good, I have tested it. Might become good in later updates if Build Up boost becomes a deco.

If you want maximum power go Goss Harag, but if you want power+any utility you want (more KO, more sharpness, evasion skills, etc) Fine Kamura is the absolute best
Have you considered a Dragonheart + Dragon conversion set for the Valstrax hammer? That combo seems ridiculously strong for dragon weapons.
I'll look into it but Dragonheart is stupidly expensive and I'll have to test if it is worth over many other element + utility skills.

@@dynamo_lynn Surely Dragonheart it's not very efficient for raw weapons. But in combination with Dragon conversion it provides +62 element, and you can even pair it with the Valstrax soul rampage skill for an extra 20% dragon damage. Quite ridiculous tbh. Also as you can now get Dragonheart as a qurio augment it is much more affordable.
@@aiexmonsterhunter Yes, but the issue is that the Risen CGV pieces are average despite their great slots, and make it difficult to get the most essential skills such as Critical eye 6, WE, CB, etc, especially not with the lack of new level 4 decoration for these skills.

What’s the current palamute meta? In terms of gear and perks. Also, how does their attack cycle work such that courage* hammer makes them do the better attack more?
I explained it in the video. They do their strongest move, the whirlwind, when Courage uses its level 3 charge. Attacks from Palamutes are tied to Hunter attacks, and it's up to the devs which palamutes attacks they tied to which hunter attack.
As for gear, element skills, crit, and attack up along with Melee-centric with the chained blades and flurry strike scroll.

I know that they use the whirlwind with Gunlance's Hail Cutter, and the discovery of that actually made Hail Cutter GL meta, because the dogs do so much damage and pretty much patch how weak gunlance is

Do you have a universal courage hammer build? Like a set of armor and skills that would work with any elemental hammer? I'm just personally too lazy to grind out a bunch of sets lmaoo
Have a few questions:
- do you not consider Thunder tree Hammer over Narwa? It has rampage 3 slot. Makes you get ele 7 augment
- is Devil's Die that inferior to Goss or Tigrex? The free sharpness from augment makes it easier to maintain purple
- Even if BuB becomes a deco, is it viable on hammer? It only triggers with rolls or Redirection, not with switch skills lile Keeping Sway. On Strength you are basically charging or using Keeping Sway to dodge. Could you evade roll, keep the charge, find the opening and be within the 12 seconds that BuB give you?
I am genuinely asking here. Not trying to start a heated argument. I'd love to use an Adrenaline Rush/BuB set with Hammer but dunno if it would work
- It's only after this update that Elembane has become worth it on Hammer, so I didn't have time to test it properly ; the Hyper Nova hammer is indeed worth it for Thunder matchups with 25 Element hitzone.
- Devil's Die is now a great Hammer as well, same thing, I didn't mention it because I didn't have time to make a proper set for it and test its damage ; you'll see that since I posted this guide, I have a couple runs where I used it. You need 3 build up boost augments using the regular augment system for it though which is what makes it a pain to get on the same level as Tigrex and Goss Harag.
- I think you meant to talk about Status Trigger here. I have tested it and it's absolutely awful. Using points for evasion on Hammer is just not worth it. Rolling with it is a waste of time, always resets your charges, and has horrible synergy with Keeping Sway which is the only evasion Hammer needs and doesn't trigger Status Trigger. Also Strength can't keep a charge when it rolls, only Keeping sway allows it to do this.
I spent like 50 tries doing a Risen Kushala quest to test absolutely all the raw stacking possible including Adrenaline rush etc with Evasion and it was way too much trouble for worst damage than what I normally use.
These are good questions so I'm confused as to why there should be a heated argument. Hope I answered you properly

A question I have for Strength. Since the Kamura Hammer is good again, what about the Seregios and Royal Order Hammers? Is it mostly because of the slots that Kamura wins out on?
Royal Order Hammer is a bit low on raw and Fine Kamura stacks Resentment and can easily get that extra 10% affinity the Seregios hammer has thanks to its slots. Sorry, but Seregios just cannot catch a break in this game.
Hey boss thanks for the vid. I'm a returning casual player from TU1 trying to switch from Impact Crater to Impact Burst, how do you know when to use Charged Brutal Big Bang vs Big Bang Combo on big openings? Any tips in general on using Impact Burst?
My apologies for the late response. For Big Bang Vs. Charged Brutal Big Bang I recommend you watch my TU2 video, I explain there precisely what the best damage is on big openings with both hammers.
I personally like to use Impact Burst at the beginning of every hunt and I almost always reset it when the monster is KO'd.

Question: on the Courage sets, both Dereliction and Mail of Hellfire are listed on the same sets. Dereliction increases element on the Red Scroll, Mail of Hellfire does it on the Blue Scroll. So which Scroll are you usually fighting in then? It's worth using both even though they boost element on different Scrolls?
Good question, I should've gave more details about this. Indeed, I use the Blue Swap Scroll because the raw boost from Dereliction is better. That's why it has excellent synergy with Mail of Hellfire for Courage.
How would you rank skill priority for courage for these skills: Burst, Critical Element, Elemental Exploit, Charge master if I can't fit them all in? Thanks. And is it more efficient to use CE7 and WEX 2 rather than less CE and WEX3? I see that in a lot of your sets
Critical Element, Element Exploit (1 is enough), Charge Master, Burst.
For affinity it depends on your sets and augments. I do use Weakness exploit 2 lately but that's because I already have a lot of affinity stacked, with CE, Bloodlust and Strife
Nice guide there. Meanwhile I would like to ask if derelication this skill reduce more hp by having higher level? Or it reduce the same hp but have better buffs only? Also, I has read some playstyle involving the Spinning Bludgeon: Charge. You can charge and spin to max charge, then able execute Charge Switch and maintain full charge and perform a level3 attack. Then charge and change back to normal state again and spin again... repeating. Not sure how is the dps...but I saw someone played that way and it look interesting.
Dereliction levels only affects the buffs. The HP drain is the same.
Blaze MH likes to experiment with Spinning Bludgeon Charge but I personally don't like it. It has low Motion Values which is it's main issue but it has its uses. I just never bother using it.
Oh, so impact crater is actually not that good. I was wondering about this since the numbers just don't look that impressive. Honestly, I only ever used it occasionally because I thought it was good. I will gladly remove it from my sets as I never really liked it.

Hi! Between Goss Harag and Tigrex hammer what would you choose? As you said the seems to be extemely similar but maybe is better to build one in some cases xD
Goss Harag offers slightly more flexibility with its slot and higher affinity. If you can't choose I'd go with Fine Kamura, it's really the easiest to build for and you can use pretty much anything you want with it, and it's still plenty strong.

Tbh, STR hammer shine brightest in Multiplayer, basicly with current playstyle we can completely avoid toss teammates 100 percent and do ridicolous bonk and stun damage. Courage hammer style WILL and i repeat, the second charge attack WILL toss teammates on heated moment because we need mostly to shuffle between 1-2-3
That's something I forgot to say in the video so I said it in the pinned comment instead ; yes, Strength is better in multiplayer and progressing through the game.

For Strength Hammer the Nargacuga and Tigrex Hammers are your best picks. For Courage Element hammers, Almudron, Narwa, probably Rathalos for Fire Element, and for Ice Goss Harag. Dragon there's both Valstrax and Dark Morte.
Playing through the game though I recommend you stick to Strength.

What’s wrong with impact crater?? I was a hammer main in base rise and loved that move it did crazy damage and felt so satisfying to land and only ever heard praise about it. Are people just tired of it?
To give some context to my comment about it in the video, yes. People are tired of impact crater because it was the only source of good damage of Hammer in (Base) Rise. Not anymore after sunbreak due to hammers moveset having been buffed - but now it's actually really too weak for how difficult it is to use.

If you are just a casual or semi casual player it's okay to not use Dereliction. You can replace the arms or legs with the Risen Crimson Glow Valstrax arms or legs (both have good points and great slots) , or the Scorned Magnamalo arms for Mail of Hellfire 1

I currently just started playing Base Rise for PlayStation and after some time with SnS would like to try out Hammer. Anyone know of any Hammer video that teaches Hammer fundamentals? Whether it’s from Rise, World, or another game where the fundamentals are transferable?
Instead of just speedrun videos, ideally something with commentary. Im a Lance main from Tri and World but for Rise I decided to main another weapon and I’m very, very interested with moving forward with the Hammer. Dynamo’s videos are a big reason. Hammer looks so fun in his hands.
I struggle with the defensive side of things since Base Rise doesn’t have access to Keeping Sway as a defensive tool and I don’t have Water Strike yet for parrying. Thanks in advance for any help!

I made this guide for Sunbreak but the only things inaccessible in base Rise are Keeping Sway and Impact Burst. You still have Water Strike, Aerial Spinning Bludgeon is actually quite fun to use instead of Keeping Sway, and all of the fundamentals I talk about in this video still apply for base Rise.

With the ability to augment Build Up Boost on armor, Scorned Magna Hammer should already overtake most of the hammers shown for strength
This is false and I have already tested it. The lack of raw on Scorned's Hammer in comparison to Rex and Goss Harag's Hammer in particular cannot be made up for, neither by Scorned's Blast damage which is terrible in this game, nor Build-Up Boost, because even with Augments it will still sacrifice other skills (such as Attack Boost). Build-up Boost is also only a 1/3 chance to proc its damage boost, and trying to pair it with Status Trigger is going to make your set even worse.
Lastly, it has overall worse sharpness management than the Hammers I recommend.
@@dynamo_lynn With BuB's 6.6% effective raw buff (considering the 33.3% chance) and AB7's % raw buff, scorned mango is just 3%ish short in raw vs goss/tigrex, while having an immensely better opportunity cost because of no negative affinity and way better slots, giving you access to MT3, so never needing to sharpen, not relying on bloodlust to have 100% affinity, and much more flexibility in general.
Obviously, the massive downside is needing to triple roll augment for BuB.
There is also the RNG aspect of BuB where you can be really lucky and really unlucky, and getting lucky with BuB procs can be insane.
Overall I'd say that at this point I'd rather play BuB or Kamura over goss or tigrex
@@dynamo_lynn Actually scratch that, I thought status weapons didn't get raw boost from aug slots, but they do, so base raw with just slots no aug is 350 for magna, 365 for goss and 380 for tigrex, which when multiplied by the respective raw% buff multipliers (AB7 for all and BuB for scorned) results in 408 raw for scorned mango (33.3% BuB uptime, 455 when it procs), 401 raw for goss and 418 for tigrex. So it's actually not even close, Scorned Magna is just much better due to the better slots and affinity.
@@freewaytf The Kamura Hammer is the first one I presented for this yes, it is extremely flexible while not sacrificing much power. I disagree with the Bloodlust argument because realistically nobody except absolutely relentless speedrunners, which even I'm not, is going to play Dereliction sets without Bloodlust. It is too easy to get and offers too much utility wise. Even for Scorned you cannot give it up since then you'll have only 90% affinity which will make your damage even more inconsistent compared to what I've shown. I'm also not sure it's possible to make a set that has Bub 3 and AB7 and CE7 AND MT3, unless we're talking about modded augments, which I don't do.
@@dynamo_lynn Since we also don't need to compromise with affinity augments on magna and we can go all in on attack guilt free, vs atk aug 3 and aff aug1 on tigrex, the effective raw difference with augments+slots is actually just 431 on magna and 434 on tigrex, literally just 3 more raw attack.

The Scorned Magnamalo hammer is good with Courage for specific matchups where Element doesn't work as well. For Strength it's pretty good as well.

I never liked elemental based gameplay. The constant switching while doing multi monster quests is annoying and its just boring to play every weapon the same way. I was and forever will be a raw and status focused player. I dont care how "bad" it is...the synergy within the set is what counts for me. I play poison strength Hammer with Build Up Boost and Chameleos Blessing. I just like the OG Hammer gameplay more.
No one's telling you to play anything else. My comment on Strength is just stating facts, nothing else. I don't support people to stop playing Strength, I even said it's my favorite and I'll still play it.

hammer FC really suck in sunbreak, courage more better
Initially dismissed Wild Hearts at first because while it looks cool, I don't think it'll play like Monster Hunter, aside from the fact that you are hunting monsters. Definitely wouldn't mind watching gameplay for it, but whether I'd get it is up in the air. My friend will give me shit for it if I do get it, though, because I told her, very sternly, that no, I will not get it.
Surprising to see FIne Kamura here for strength hammer, but Goss is a familiar face …hammer. Have you've seen the MHMeta thread for TU4 and the hammer meta page specifically? What do you think about Devil's Die being their go-to strength hammer? I believe it was their hammer of choice for TU3 as well while you were using Goss. Don't know if you mentioned it back then.

Not to belittle them at all but whoever makes the Hammer meta on the Meta subreddit has been pretty wrong for quite a while now, especially for Strength. In the case of Devil's Die, it has lower sharpness management than the Hammers I show + it can't keep up damage wise with Tigrex/Goss Harag because Blast is so bad in this game it can't even make up for its lower raw. This isn't just my opinion, been discussing this with BlazeMH too who is arguably the best western Hammer player along with me
@@dynamo_lynn Looking at the differences in the builds, seems they assume players will qurio craft in 3 Mail of Hellfire, which gives 35 raw on red scroll, equal to your Dereliction, which they don't use. They also have Coalescence at 3, but that's only an extra 6 raw over Coalescence 1, which doesn't exactly hold up to the 30 extra attack on Goss lol. I think the idea for their build is that Master's Touch 3 for the sharpness management is more convenient for the casual player who might not farm for Great Whetfish, but it's a moot point since you already mentioned your build is for speedrunning. +Defiance 3 is so smooth
