I feel very comfortable when I use this Balenciaga, I even think I'm more confident if that makes sense. The smell is unique and timeless and I think it deserves all the compliments that have been generated around the fragrance.

Excellent review Ramsey! When I first sprayed Balenciaga on me the first thing that came to my mind was Lapidus pour homme. Then I learned about the whole connection between Bogart and Balenciaga and it made perfect sense to me. Not the same fragrance but definitely inspired by it.
I finally tried this because of your great praise and review. I just wrote a quick first impression on fragrantica, giving your praise affirmation. The warm spices are beautiful. The cinnamon is special with the honey and cardomom! It reminded me of Gucci Envy. The creamy smooth sandalwood with vanilla and cardomom. Will get a bottle eventually. PS: Were you able to get any of the new Areej Animalic collection? All sold out in 1 day... I have War and Peace II, so I'm happy with that. The only Areej I would try to buy if it ever comes up, is Baikal Gris. As I love conifers and woodsey frags.
Unfortunately with the divorce I am not able to buy any full bottles...but I think RA is kindly sending me a sample set so I can at least do a livestream and review them 🙂
Ive experienced the same as you, i feel the spices, the cinamon, patchouli, soft lavender and there’s definetely civet, to me this is a spicy/woody/fougere. To get an idea i feel this is like mixing kouros with egoiste. Exquisite blending,thick,powerful and very characteristic dna which as you said there’s nothing similar to this masterpiece, im so glad theres someone whos so passionate and knowledgeable i always look forward for your knowledge greetings from Chile!

What a fragrance this is... I've always thought about this one that it sits right in the middle between a 80's and a 90's scent. For sure the patchouli is one of the best ever in this one, it starts off a bit like Lapidus pour Homme and dries down to something in the vein of Heritage.

Still Need to grab my hands on this one! On fragrantica there’s not many negatives apart from smelling old or dated.. the Honey note interesting with the vanilla possible be a amber accord slight sweetness in the dry down
I get a very distinct oud supporting accord in BpH. A dominant heart ingredient here is the rosy jammy red-fruit accord (damascone?) which glues the whole composition together.
My SOTD today - thanks for the inspiration. The opening is just pure genius with that sharp thyme, wood, and resins. Like many classic perfumes and as you point out, the performance is stunning and goes through various transformations during its impressive longevity.
Love the hall of fame idea and a brilliant fragrance to kick start it for sure ,and goddam it ,worry not on doing justice to any of your hall of famers ,because on hearing this one if I was the perfumer on hearing your review I’d be like wow I’m a f#cking genius who knew , lol 😂. hi I have exceptional information about Balenciaga for men I confirm a change between the original formulation and the current vintage models do not ask me how I can know this but my information is 100% Correct I got the possibility of recently smelling a formulation from 1990 which was prepared especially for me and the smell and fresher more natural and it is a fantastic discovery
@@RamseytheRam hi Thank you for your answer yes indeed but I have a version from the laboratory the original formula from 1990 was weighed less than a month ago and as a result I have a brand new version I compare it with the vintage versions and old one that I own I have several bottles but there is a difference in the opening the first notes and the rest are slightly different until drying I can even really prove it to you the version that I have is much better it is a work of art
I had a tiny tester bottle of this when I was a kid that came in the mail and now that I am older I have always been trying to find this cologne but never got a chance to buy it. I do have creed original sental and it reminds me of the balenciaga as far as my memory can recall however I can’t exactly remember. I still have the tiny bottle however the cap broke years ago and it dried out. What are your thoughts on how those two smell?
To my nose nose Original Santal is much more like Joop! Homme or Mont Blanc Individuel... go to ebay and buy a bottle ... it will be the best couple hundred bucks you can spend ... fragrance is the best time machine we have
I don't get dominant cinnamon from Romeo Gigli pH somehow… great oriental though. Another very interesting cinnamon frag from that era is the original Comme des Garçons

Does vintage frags like Balenciaga pour homme lose top notes over time? Also asking if splash bottles are cursed to have their juice contaminated through usage??
Splash bottles have more chance of exposure to air so they can break down faster... the whole top note thing depends how it was stored and if it was ever sprayed etc

hello to all I have already told you my story with this perfume if you remember but I wanted to share with you my opinion on the composition and the notes you know I smelled this perfume only once in 1990 at the age 6 years old just once and it stuck in my memory and I smelled this fragrance for the second time at the age of 39 so 33 years passed and the effect was still the same there there is in the composition of this perfume a secret ingredient I am convinced of it I would say not a note but rather a specific ingredient that I do not know but which must be very special because no perfume can resemble it it has its own characteristic - even almost mystical I do not understand this perfume and its effect on the emotion it touches a specific point of our psyche and I will be even more precise by evoking the moment of drying which has this effect once dry the perfume has this bewitching ability i may sound completely crazy saying that but it's my own experience and believe me i had 33 years of thinking about it but i'm just repeating it on its drying rt not of its evolution before the perfume is completely dry

I have a decant of balenciaga pour homme and while I don’t consider it to be anywhere near my favourite fragrance, it is VERY interesting to smell. Not a lot of fragrance like it

No worries thanks anyway, I love wearing this but I’ve been told by others that it’s musty and I think the patchouli being extra dirty might be the culprit, was looking if others have noticed
I’ve never clicked on a video faster. SoTRainyEvening Vermeil for Men. Fabulous. I found the Duck and the fragrance community because of Balenciaga PH which was and is a stalwart for me... I’ve given it a lot of consideration and would describe it as a Green Cinnamon Musk. I find it interesting that you bring up Nobile because I also believe the musks take that fragrance from a Fougere and just give it a tremendous amount of push and grandeur. Another favorite. Excellent analysis from the Ram as we’ve come to expect. Balenciaga Pour Homme, a star system in a bottle. A sense of wonder.
Well it depends on the brand... there are still some Artisnal brands that can source the stuff for very small batch run frags ... i know TSVGA used it in FIONA .... you just have to go with Artisnal brands like Areej le Dore to get the real deal now a days 💪
Walking around the world wearing Balenciaga PH almost makes me snicker as if I know a secret that the rest of these folks will just never know... almost like I have the cheat code 😏

This is one of my favorite frags. Super strong and dense. This thing anihilates all the boring, inoffensive, mass appealing scents dudes wear around these days.

There was only one run of Balenciaga PH from 1990 to 2000 as far as I am aware and then it got discontinued

I had a tiny tester bottle of this when I was a kid that came in the mail and now that I am older I have always been trying to find this cologne but never got a chance to buy it.
I do have creed original sental and it reminds me of the balenciaga as far as my memory can recall however I can’t exactly remember. I still have the tiny bottle however the cap broke years ago and it dried out.
What are your thoughts on how those two smell?
To my nose nose Original Santal is much more like Joop! Homme or Mont Blanc Individuel... go to ebay and buy a bottle ... it will be the best couple hundred bucks you can spend ... fragrance is the best time machine we have
I don't get dominant cinnamon from Romeo Gigli pH somehow… great oriental though.
Another very interesting cinnamon frag from that era is the original Comme des Garçons

I would classify this on second place on the holly Pentad of vintage perfumes just below Patou PH and above Versailles PH, Fendi PH and Smalto

hey man, i finally pulled the trigger and got a little 1oz bottle for under $100, its on the way. figured its basically now or never....but then i was reading basenotes and fragrantica posts from years ago suggesting the 1oz bottles may have been from after a reformulation. i just wanted to ask if you notice any difference between your small bottle and the 3.4oz? thank you bro!

Also asking if splash bottles are cursed to have their juice contaminated through usage??
Splash bottles have more chance of exposure to air so they can break down faster... the whole top note thing depends how it was stored and if it was ever sprayed etc
Azzaro pour homme is incredible. It’s tied with Alfred Sung pour homme for my most worn in that genre

I finally got to smell Balenciaga ph a few mths ago, love at first sniff, why oh why would they discontinue this makes no sense, found it a bit similar to Lapidus ph & Furyo, but more classier

hello to all I have already told you my story with this perfume if you remember but I wanted to share with you my opinion on the composition and the notes you know I smelled this perfume only once in 1990 at the age 6 years old just once and it stuck in my memory and I smelled this fragrance for the second time at the age of 39 so 33 years passed and the effect was still the same there there is in the composition of this perfume a secret ingredient I am convinced of it I would say not a note but rather a specific ingredient that I do not know but which must be very special because no perfume can resemble it it has its own characteristic - even almost mystical I do not understand this perfume and its effect on the emotion it touches a specific point of our psyche and I will be even more precise by evoking the moment of drying which has this effect once dry the perfume has this bewitching ability i may sound completely crazy saying that but it's my own experience and believe me i had 33 years of thinking about it but i'm just repeating it on its drying rt not of its evolution before the perfume is completely dry

@@RamseytheRam Thank you my brother it's a crazy story myself I don't understand but it's the reality there is a mystery in this perfume I'm sure I have several bottles and I also have several samples in 4ml and I even have the soap and the aftershave I'm going to test everything and see if there are any differences in smell between all the bottles
I have a decant of balenciaga pour homme and while I don’t consider it to be anywhere near my favourite fragrance, it is VERY interesting to smell. Not a lot of fragrance like it

I found the Duck and the fragrance community because of Balenciaga PH which was and is a stalwart for me... I’ve given it a lot of consideration and would describe it as a Green Cinnamon Musk. I find it interesting that you bring up Nobile because I also believe the musks take that fragrance from a Fougere and just give it a tremendous amount of push and grandeur. Another favorite.

Well it depends on the brand... there are still some Artisnal brands that can source the stuff for very small batch run frags ... i know TSVGA used it in FIONA .... you just have to go with Artisnal brands like Areej le Dore to get the real deal now a days 💪
