Whipple Supercharged 2024 Ford Mustang GT hits the dragstrip!

  • We took our Whipple Supercharged 2024 Mustang GT to the track to see what it would run. This car does have the manual transmission so we knew it was not going to be as easy as our past vehicles, like our 2018 Mustang GT Project Goldmember, which went mid 8s. Jared was a little uneasy about his stick-shift abilities so we invited longtime racer & friend Evan Smith out to do some piloting.
    Throughout our day of testing we changed up tire pressure, launch RPMs and more to see what kind of times we could get the car to run. We're happy with what we accomplished and we know there is a TON more potential as we further dial the car in. Stay tuned to our channels because there's more where this came from...

      Tire size needs to be set correctly with the Tomahawk tuner. They probably forgot to do this when they swapped the rear wheels. This is why mph is down as well. Simple configuration error that can be easily fixed.

      On F150s...it's usually due to traction control activating! I bet the reason why this car didn't go faster is due to the traction/torque control strategy activating.

    Hey man, excellent day for the first time at the track. 10.6 @ 135 is fantastic. I have done road track racing throughout my racing career. Not too many drag strip passes. I noticed on four of the passes both you and Evan hit the brakes on the pass. I brake with my left foot; it took a ton of racing experience to get used to doing that. If you are concerned about hitting the rev limiter just for an instant release the pedal but stay in the gas & definitely don’t hit the brakes. You always have control over the car with the gas pedal verses the brakes on both cars and motorcycles. I raced Porsches and motorcycles competitively for years and steering and gas is where you want to be. Look forward to seeing how it goes with suspension enhancements. Your S650 looks great, sounds great and is very impressive!!!! Did you have any heat-soak issues? It certainly didn’t appear to have any. The Whipple Gen 5 & Gen 6 stay amazingly cool compared to other SCs.
    Steeda (Scott) just received a carbon fiber hood for their S650. I am eager to hear about the weight savings.
    Jared great video! Thanks for sharing Brother. A few more passes and it will be second nature for you and the 6-spd.
    Go Mustang King, become The Speed Racer!!!‼️👍👊💪😎🇺🇸

      The brakes were not touched - its an issue with ABS when the actual tire size does not match what the car believes it to be. It'll be fixed next outting.

    • @operatoreng
      @operatoreng 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@lopgan121I thought y'all were tapping the brakes also. Is the electronics braking the car at that point possibly also? Seems like it falls down on the shifts at the same time causing it to lose momentum then it picks back up. Looks especially noticeable in 1-2 shifts but others also slightly. Regardless of what it's without a doubt going to be even faster with more experience drag racing it and feeling it out.

Plus this a manual car they are using so i was not expecting much. The issue seems to be being able to manage traction and wheel spin. The 650 whp car will beat a lot of 800 whp cars. Less wheel spin = traction and a better time. plus those are 2 different types of blowers and how and when they make power. I give the s650 the same 2-3 yr time the s550 had to make a conclusion.

    Interestingly, the trap speed is similar to a stock GT500 which has 150hp less and possibly more weight. Did you collect any datalogs from the runs to see if any protection was being applied vs the dyno?

    • @DWH300
      @DWH300 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      How did you get the GT500 has 150 less horsepower than the Whipple S650 GT.?
      Did you watch this video. The brake lights were coming on which may have slowed the pass. It's possible the Advance trac & traction control system wasn't completely turning off from possibly a switch issue. There's other possible reasons from low brake fluid to the tire sizes but it should be corrected. The GT500 also has an amazing rapid shifting 7 speed DCT and unlike the S650 is tuned to shift at it's 7300 redline. The S650 appears to have a soft tune from Ford for government Mpg and emissions requirements causing automatic cars to shift before it's 7500 redline
      When Motor Trend Tested the GT500. The quarter mile pass wasn't overly impressive.
      *Motor Trend* : The GT500 is faster than a Hellcat through the quarter mile too, covering 1,320 feet in 11.3 seconds at a blistering 131.6 mph. The highest trap speed we've measured from a Hellcat is in the Challenger Redeye, which hit 126.6 mph over 11.6 seconds.
      If you understand the principal of Test and Tune. For the first time on the track in a manual S650 Whipple GT running in 93 pump gas with Octane boost. Running 10s is a hell of a start for a new base 6 speed S650 Mustang GT.

    Sure, the stick is slower then the 10spd. But for non competition daily driving id take the stick. Preferably the dark horse tremec. Another sad thing is Ford couldnt swap the tremec in the GT. They know the getreg trans isnt as good, thats why they put the tremec in the more expensive mustangs. And the GTs cost enough to get the tremec. Honestly the sales decline of the mustang is because of price in my opinion. They are WAY too expensive.
    Its hard/if not almost impossible to out launch a auto. Especially since most people cant afford to launch it like you dont need to pay for it if it breaks. But even with a tune my 10spd in my f150 is usually not in the gear i want for the duration i want. On/off throttle aggressive driving isnt anywhere near perfect. But its does launch real nice. Im already saving for the midnight racing trans. 10spds are a crap shoot. Some get 60k miles plus with a blower. Others blow up 40k to 70k stock power normal driving. I havent driven any expensive cars with DCTs, as im not rich/a journalist, or youtuber. nor have i read up on how long they last when driven aggressively. All i know is my in my used cars the autos always acted up and the stick cars were good to go. Even if tge syncros werent perfect.

      Our best recommendations for a manual or auto car would be some axles. Those are typically the first to go if you plan on drag racing or launching hard with the car. We're running the Gforce ones on our car and so far so good. For a manual car eventually I'd look into an aftermarket clutch from either Mcleod or Vengeance.
