And particularly not having Head for the first few games, lose their first two games, it’s a great achievement and given those circumstances and in sub continent conditions, possibly the greatest of their 6 50 over world titles.

@@Xinnie_The_Flu you think Australia isn't the most successful cricketing nation in history? LMAO! What XI is that, something BCCI has told them to do.
Bradman, Lillie/Mcgrath, Warne, none if your past players come close to thise 3 in batting, spin or pace bowling.

@@Alunticstalkedme4072 Bradman used to play with midwives of some English queen. While Warne was good, Muralidharan was way better. And as for fast bowlers, I don't see anybody coming close to the records Shami has built up in this world cup, but even in his era McGrath was nowhere near as lethal as Shoaib Akhtar, or Wasim or Waqar.
Now we have Kohli and Rohit, Kohli just beat Tendulkar's record of most 100s and the best Aussie batsman was Ricky Ponting and even he is like 20 100s behind Kohli and Tendulkar. And he's behind Rohit too.
You're day dreaming if you actually think this Aussie team is better than this Indian team, they won the match fair and square I'll give them that but if it was best 2 out of 3, you'd have seen who the better team is.😉

Australia are clearly the undisputed, dominant and superior ODI cricket playing nation. Brazil has 5 football world cups .. Australia has 6 ODI works cups and they gave India an absolute spanking in their own back yard to win no6. Astonishing result. It will take generations to catch up to Australia for any team, let alone surpass them. Congratulations to Australia. Brilliantly executed tournament, anc let’s not forget their results in 2023 beating India for the world test championship in England too, as well as restraining the ashes.. in England. No other country can come close to that achievement. No one.

I feel for the Indian players because they had set a very high bar in their 10 straight victories. They made the Aussies eat humble pie and look ordinary in the first game. I think Australia's was a jaded team then, having played more overseas than at home. India forced Australia to look hard at itself and start playing better one day cricket. NZ did the same ... and the Aussies had to dig deep and work harder than before. It made for a tougher team, but also a team where the players supported and believed in each other. Their support team of coaches, doctors, physios and others also played a critical role, especially in treating Travis Head and Glen Maxwell. Thus, Australia's win didn't "just happen". It took talent, disciplined training, careful thought and self belief and ... courage. To play in the grandstand in front of 132,000 Indian fans, and to play so well, against a very great team made up of some of the greatest batsmen and bowlers of this generation was awesome. It made for a great tournament, one that will be remembered for years to come.

True that. Even the nature of that semi against SA had quirky simlarites. needing to chase 213, Taking out the top order and relying on a 6th wicket partnership to give you a lifeline, getting off to a flyer at the start of your chase only for your middle order to falter. Only difference is aus batted second this time and SA batted second in 99 and that unlike SA, the aussies got over the line.

Because the India fans base their support on fanatical emotion, not critical practicality. Australia players are treated rather differently in Australia .. play well we cheer them, play badly or overstay your welcome ( Ponting being a classic example) then they are rightly called out. India were 4 for 3 in the 1st game and Australia drop Kholi. If Marsh takes that catch India may have been bowled out. They always talk openly about going and winning a World Cup and it's clear they mean it also.
India had the pressure with the fans, home ground and to try keeping a winning run intact.

Australia went in with a plan and stuck to it hoping for the best, India simply wilted under the burden of expectation. Was a strange pitch to make, can’t understand why they’d choose to lay out a slow pitch when they have such great shotmakers and fast bowlers. But considering how much stronger the Indian team was over any other team in the cup, they really did blow it. Was theirs for the taking even before the tournament began. Every single test team in this cup, except South Africa, was weaker than they were 4 years ago. Unfortunate, and these things happen, but it just shows how you have to keep your head to get the job done…
Pakistan in 99, India in 2003, South Africa in 2007 (semifinals), NZL in 2015, each of them buckled and didn’t even put up a fight. In the 2019 semis, England stuck to their game plan and strengths and thrashed Australia.

Zero sympathy as India had all the advantages, the got the pitch they wanted, home ground advantage and the crowd as well.
Whereas the Aussies had a strategy from the start, they statistically and meticulously researched the ground conditions, concluding that bowling first was best due to the dew later making it easier to bat, rotating the bowling so India couldn’t get into a rhythm which happened after they lost 3 wickets, aggressive fielding then restricting the runs with their clever field placements.
They put on enough runs early before losing wickets but even then they stayed calm, Head played aggressively while Marcus held down the other end. Australia outplayed India, it’s that simple.

There's a certain irony with Butcher talking about conditions changing between innings being a leveler. the groudn which has the most lopssided difference between first and second innings is Wankhede. With most scores in the first innings being in the high 300 to over 400, and the average in the second innings until the final one played by NZ being 199 in response. Massive differences between SR for both batsmen and bowlers between innigns aas well as averages. India won their semi convincingly, but it was the least convincing win of all the games played at Wankhede (other than the miraculous Maxwell game which defied the trend). Perhaps if India had been a little elss dominant throughout the comp, that performance would have been scrutinised a bit more.

I have been seeing his progress from the 2012 under 19 World Cup to the big bash league matches for Adelaide strikers and from 2021 ashes in the gabba he made a quick 152 on a tough batting pitch and shifted the momentum towards his side which set the tone for Australia to thrash England. He was clinical in the WTC final vs India earlier this year as well when he counter attacked and made a quick fire 163, and it set the tone for Australia to dominate throughout the match.
