14:10 “ the result is almost immaterial” 14:24 “thats englands win, if anything you can discard the result itself” Another moral victory for England. YOU LOST Embarrassing.
Listen, McCullum knows what he’s doing but there’s literally no harder start to that job, he’s got to rebuild a team vs India who have by far the best and deepest talent pool in the format and are at home, they could play that game in their sleep. He’s still working out what works, give him time and certainly don’t judge him against India away. He will be learning who is really good enough though to compete at the top… and it might not be many of them. How many of that England squad will feature in the IPL much this year? Not many is my guess.
It seems rocket science for you! It's not Indian C Team. It's the no 1 talented team. It's the invincible team as there's no non-performing super stars like Ro-Ko KL Gill etc. I guess India win the T20 series 4-1.
I am not talking about missing Rohit & Virat, they have retired, missing players that also could be picked and still do a decent job: Gill Jaiswal Pant Bumrah Shami Kuldeep Yadav W Sundar Siraj S Iyer Y Chahal Gaikwad
The TOY is whatever Wisden want to make it, but your credibility is not very high when the team selected is based on matches against minnows. Atkinson has only played against Sri Lanka, West Indies and NZ. Smith has only played against Pakistan Sri Lanka and West Indies. The presenter did a good job to keep a straight face when pretending that these guys belong there. He started to talk about averages, but possibly realised that Hazelwood had an average of 13 for 2024. If the team is going to be selected on averages they don't need a panel, they can just pull them straight from the stats. Then he tried blaming the unnamed contributors that Wisden must have selected. There are no better wicketkeeper batsmen than Pant and there are not 3 better fast bowlers than Cummins.
Phil's response to Fox Cricket was weak. Listing previous years when more Aussies were in the XI doesn't make a difference. Australia won the previous WTC and would've been in the final of the first one if not for penalties. It doesn't explain why there were so many English players this year when they were mid table. Wisden is no longer the voice of cricket. Disgraceful. Also the Spurs - Ginola comparison doesn't hold. That's an award for one person. This would be like if Spurs finished mid table, didn't win anything (like normal) and then had 5 players in the Team of the Season and United had none.
@@stevenbox4523 they mentioned them, use your ears. They both each had one Aussie in the team so not even they're saying none should be in, only you seem to be (or at least implying it). WHY WERE THERE FIVE ENGLISH PLAYERS IN THE TEAM? WHY? STOP ASKING QUESTIONS IF YOU CAN'T ANSWER BETTER ONES.
@@stevenbox4523 you think a team which lost more games than they won in 2024 should have 5 players in the team of the year meanwhile the TOP 3 teams for 2024 (Australia, SA & Sri Lanka) should have one combined. If so, only one of us is thick, thicko.
Phil bringing up the Manchester weather in the last ashes hints of the "moral victory" stuff and shows the bias. You could almost guarantee with English weather you are going to have at least one draw due to rain in a 5-match series in England. It isn't some freak of nature event that it occurred and is part and parcel of the game. That is why Australia going 2 nil up was so important. It was a drawn series, Australia retained the ashes. England might play more tests than anyone else; but they also lose half of them,
I suspect you will get better balance to the side if you don’t have 60% of the voters from the country who is significantly over represented, as you say Phil, relative to the landscape. To answer your question - I would swap out Smith for either Pant or Carey, not fussed on those two but Carey played super critical roles in test victories; I would swap out Atkinson for Cummins (if you are beholden to numbers I suspect Hazlewood would be the choice here but Cummins impacts games more through batting and decision making) and I would also swap out Henry for Rabada.
Great selection of the team of the year. This is why cricket writing in England is generally so much better than everywhere else, the rest of the world has that insecure tribal soccer fan mentality. Well, maybe not everywhere. Not New Zealand or West Indies, but we all all know where the sounds of stamping feet are coming from😂
That's OK, you leave Cummins out of your team on stats... even though his stats are world class.... and totally ignore the X factor of his Captaincy skills.... even when you acknowledge in that role, he is second to none...... .....I'll have him in my team then, and also pick up the contenders who SHOULD have made it WITHOUT question... like Head.... and that team will BEAT yours. Democracy? So you base it on stats... but also on subjective feelings about what they represent? And how many of your panel are English? Of course it is idiotic Cummins did not make it. Even more idiotic than Head's absence. That is ok though.... because the team you made, is good, but would be soundly flogged by the team you could have made but did not. I think that is the point. Wisden was indeed, once, considered the Cricketing Bible... it looks like its being taken in the direction of a glossy, very English, tabloid these days. Wish is actually worse than being a one eyed English Fanboy really.
What match were u watching, the pitch wasn't even turning a lottle bit, even talkssport cricket commentator were saying the pitch spinning it's the pace of the spinner which worked.
Love your work guys. Love the pod. I’ve subscribed. I know you acknowledged the outrage article was Fox Sports so fair play. But it seemed like you strayed into the suggestion fox sports Australia. To be clear our Murdoch scourge is yours. But it’s good grist for the mill anyway. Fairness to you guys there are enough morons who got in a lather about the team naming anyway. Well argued by you guys for the team that was named
I told the delusional english pundits that india is vastly superior limited overs side . they won 25 of the last 27 t20i matches . this is the greatest T20 side in history . scoring 280s and devilishly good spinners
What a pathetically inadequate response from Phil Walker. Only need to look at the content of EVERY SINGLE weekly podcast which demonstrates an inability to look further than a positive Engalnd narative and incapable of acknowledge the superiority of better teams. All Engalnd has left if an abilty to "engineer" the English language to suit their needs.

Embarrassing.
6:40 The pitch wasn't turning at all!!! It was a flat wkt with some bounce n swing. They kept missing straight balls!
I was thinking how is low testosterone related to this defeat 😂
Pathetic answer Phil Walker- so the selection is rotational ( “someone else’s turn”). What a joke you all are.
14:12 Just keep playing in the nets n domestic cricket if intl results don't matter.
Usually like Phil but this response was so weak (proud Englishman here). Australia should have been represented.
Harry Brook didn't play well in Pakistan when the ball spun. Do not be deluded.
Confused? It simply means you've fallen for the Baz bullshit about how good England is. Not hard to understand.
Phil managed to respond to the team of the year criticism not very well at all.
Took it far too seriously and personally.
I mean fox cricket journalism is shithouse and sensationalist and resorted to ad hominems by calling wisden fan boys so…

England can’t play slow bowling, there was no spin, illusion of spin is what England batsmen see hence getting hammed by India C team.

I don't know why Aussies are surprised. Wisden hasn't been a neutral publication for several years now. Still good listening though
