50 years ago.. ( YES, I'm that old ) My Uncle owned about 20 acres near Lake Isabella . He lived in Bodfish Ca. at the end of a rural rd. that backed up to BLM Land. A 5-6 mile hike up the Trail would take you to the remains of the Glen Olive Gold Mine. A GREAT HIKE!!! A lot of the Buildings were still there, along with the Stamping Mill.
Happy 2024 to you & your family, Cat. Absolutely love this channel & think everyone should subscribe. Beautiful location on the river & the town was perfect for a getaway. You have such a REAL vibe in your videos that takes us all along with you. Be safe & see you next week 👍🏻🙋🏼♀️❤️
Cat, I have been following you since you hit the road. I don't get to go traveling as I once did, so I look forward to your videos every week. Your photography is the best I've seen. You have to do what is best for you, but your videos add so much to my week. Thank You. PS. That campsite was amazing!
Hi, I recently upgraded all of my pots and pans to stainless Analon. What works for me having them nonstick is to heat up the pan first to temperature where you toss a little water on it and the water droplets jump around then you can add your oil or add your food and that helps with it a lot. Great content and happy new year.
So good to see you on the road again, Cat! You’re the best! Glad to see you’re getting to hang with your family! Never been down to the Kern River area. In the meantime… we will travel vicariously through you adventures!! Happy trails!
Starting your New Year off right with maintenance. This is one of the most beautiful videos yet, for me. That dreamy campsite, the food, the river sound, the herron...so relaxing to watch. Thank you!
I learned all those roads up there last Oct. There is a turn off to 395 almost to the top of Blackrock Station. Those back roads at the bottom were all open you just had to watch out for logging trucks and crews. Up top most of the signs are missing for the trails creeks and dispersed camping. They are trying to cut down on people traffic up there to give the forest a chance to recover from the fires not to mention a lot of down trees blocking some of the roads.
I have not read all of the reviews so this may have been said… once you are done cooking… in the hot pan, carefully pour cold water into the hot pan and gently scrap with a non metal spatula. The pan will come clean. You can also use wine or beer if the recipe calls for them. My grandma taught me this trick….
... Agree , a well seasoned cast skillet can't be beat .... except for backpacking ... ... there is a relatively new company to backpacking gear ,Fire Maple ,, that has a good skillet for backpacking ..
I grew up in Visalia. If you like to swim, theres an amazing swimming hole just inside Sequoia National Park southern entrance. Take highway 198 into the park, drive about half a mile. The FIRST parking spots on your left are it. There should be 2 retaining ponds across the street. This is on the central fork of tge Kaweah River. If you drive around the next corner to the park headqueartes you've gone too far. Walk to the cyclone fence around the ponds, follow the trail over the ridge down to the water. Trails about 1/3 of a mile. The spot is 150 yards long. Solid granite on both sides. Rocks or cliffs from 10 to 70 feet to jump off. Lower lagoon is 15 feet deep, upper falls is 40 or more. Best time is mid-June or later. Absolutely great place to escape the heat of the valley and swim.
Such a beautiful campsite! It would definitely be hard to leave. So nice that you and your sister can go on these relaxing trips. Can't wait to see what new adventures 2024 holds! Thanks for taking us along with you. 😊❤
When I lived in LA, I used to visit Kernsville several times per year. There is also the grove of 100 Redwoods up the canyon from town that are glorious.
Key with stainless steel, which is the same with cast iron is to make sure it is hot before you put anything in it. Secondly use fat to fry. That can be butter though bacon grease or tallow is better. Stay away from seed oils.
I lost your channel a while back. Not long ago I was wondering if you were still traveling and doing your thing? You are!! That is great !! you are so good at pictures / videos and telling great stories. Thanks for sticking with it! Life is not easy, I like to camp / ride motorcycles a lot. It is good for my soul.... I am subbed again. Be safe, and thanks again for what you are doing and for taking us along to some wonderful places😃
I lived in the Rivernook campground for 5 years in my RV while fixing the dam at Lake Isabella and loved it. It's next door to the campground your at. Kernville is awesome and worth spending time at. Glad you liked it!
Your videos always have me rethinking the current lifestyle I am in. But for sure it’s not for everyone. The western edge of Cali is just as amazing as the eastern edge for sure. Your videos give everyone the adventure itch while we sit back in our armchairs as you take us along on your awesome journey(s). Thank you for sharing!
Catherine it's been a long time since I had you back to intertan us, with your adventures and I really appreciate you and your going places that I have no way of traveling myself, so thank you for the information, videos, bye for now!!!
Super awesome I'm a kern river frequent flyer I go up there for new years all te time but didn't this year. I stay at the same camp ground you are at. Darn it . Sorry I missed you
You captured the beauty of Kernville. Mountain Hwy Rd along the river to Sherman Pass Rd takes you to Kennedy Meadows. Then you can go to Hwy 395. Seasonal unmaintained, steep road not for the faint of heart ( especially if in a big vehicle ). Have you ever done the drive to Sherman Pass from CA 395, or camped Kennedy Meadows? Keep exploring. The greatest gift.
Indeed, Sherman Pass Rd is epic, but I don't recommend taking it with your trailer Cat. Too steep and windy. We used to make that loop from Kennedy meadows, over Sherman Pass, and back through Kernville to home on our Harley's during the Summer months. Such a beautiful ride!
You always find the best camping spots. Love the small town. Looking forward to seeing more of your adventures in the new year. Thank you for another great video.
Your the best virtual travel agent. Ever thought of putting tour log of your adventures. Just a yearly guide of where you been and if you recommend. The route you took. 😊
I go to Kernville and the lake at least once a month. It's my favorite quick motorcycle ride, or quick trekking with my dog, to get out of Ridgecrest. Glad you like it. 😁💜✌️
I am glad you enjoyed your trip. Our family has had a lot with a trailer on it since the 60's. Many memories there, lived there off and on, was the Manager of the FM radio station that used to be in back of THE HUT bar. Take care.
I camped there years ago. A chimpmunk got into a box of powdered donuts, and there were little footprints all over everything! He showed up 2 days later all fat and puffy!!
Cat, I really enjoy traveling with you week after week. Some of the trips bring back old memories while some of the adventures are new and inviting. As usual, your cinematography is always top notch. Looking forward to more of your life's adventurws .
Happy New Year, Catherine! Beautiful area. Great information. I'm happy that you had good company. Wonderful meals. Again, thank you for sharing! I thumbs up, and also, some of the early comments. Be safe! Hi, to your sister.
Happy New Year Catherine..... every time I watch one of your episodes... it resets me to the beauty of the world around us.... Thank you sooo much... Look forward to what 2024 has in store....
That is a bad ass hat! It is perfect for you! Looks really great! You are gonna love that pan with higher sides…can do so much in it…mainly cook a little more and have leftovers.
I am glad that you found your new hat because it looks good on you. Glad you are feeling great and that you got to spend time with family. You are the only traveler, hiker that I watch. You do such a great job of recording the scenery around you that anyone else isn't even second best. Keep up the great work and I'll be around. Glad your sister is doing good too.
Your only human this time of season is to be close to love ones and your doing it... "Happy New Year" 🎉 let the adventure begin p/s I've crossed the mouth of the kern river where it begins w/my "jeep" to camp with a lost friend RIP Tom we miss you
Congrats Cat on your success and future successes!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I love to see creative souls like yourself succeed and want to support that effort! I am following my own creative journey in 2024 so I hope it works out well like it has for you! You’ve worked hard and long to get here. 8 years?!? WOW! Keep on keepin on! 🏔️ Thank you for being you 😊 Take time to celebrate these special moments 🥰🎉
I love your new blackout curtains. They are SOOOOO much better than blinds. I don't put blinds in any of my trailers. If people want them, they can put them in after I'm finished. I haven't seen that much water in the Kern since the early 90s! Wow! I wipe a little dab of olive oil on my metal pans that are not non-stick and it works well. I just use a napkin to wipe it on with. A little goes a long ways. You don't need much.
Good video, just discovered you...A trick for using stainless steel is to preheat it for a minute or two then put your food or oil in, not too hot. Not sure about bacon as I don't eat it...
Glad you're back! Love the hat, too! If you want to touch up the shape of the hat to match up the sides, just get some steam going from your teapot and use the steam to soften up the area you want to change. Hold it in place until it cools, then spray it with spray starch, sugar water, or a very stiff hairspray and it will hold its shape.
I took a trip up that highway, many years ago, by myself; I stayed at Fairview Camp. Your video made me so nostalgic about it! I went in May, and boy, that river was roaring! I spent about a week exploring up that road, and dirt roads and trails nearby. I had a great time.
Happy 2024 Cat! 1) The Stetson looks great on that cowgirl! Very good purchase. 2) I would stay at that riverfront spot for a month. 3) The closing song is fantastic! Who is that? Consider making it your permanent outro song? Thanks for another enjoyable episode on a Sunday morning. Cheers!
The most beautiful, bestest, happiest way to start the New Year. The beauty and peace you bring to us is overwhelming. And had beautiful Birdie and loving Sis as a big bonus. Cat you are the best. Thank you so much. Good health and happiness to you and your family in 2024. And hopefully some Peace thru out our world.
I for one am so happy to have subscribed to your channel. Cat, you have taken me along with you to many places I always planned on hiking at and put together some of the best videos wherever you go. 100,000 subscribers will be well deserved and overdue in my opinion. Job well done! Look forward to where you take us this 2024 year. 👍⛺️🏞🎥🏅
Yep, its been a thousand good miles, thanks. And you should treat yourselves one day, just downstream in the big city, to some fantastic Basque food restaurants in the area.....take care !!
Very glad to see your videos are back! Everybody needs a break, but I for one missed Sunday mornings with Cat.
Let's get Cat to 100k! One of the most deserving channels out there.
Happy new year. Remember everyone subscriptions to you tube channels are free. Love your channel! Thanks for all you do Cat!❤️

Nice hat...
Pleased to see you're back. Missed my ration of visual delights. Be well & stay safe .. Cheers.

Yes. Heating them up first will help.
Thanks for sharing the peace and quiet! Glad you had some downtime! Continued healing for your sister!
There will be a lot to look forward to in 2024. One is watching your videos and seeing all your amazing adventures. 😊
Happy 2024! ❤
Wonderful camping by the river! The river flowing was very relaxing! Happy New Year!

That pan is good for cooking when using a liquid, cast iron are the best,I have 3 in my 23 ft motorhome and use them all the time.

Oh my gosh! To wake up to the sound of the river flowing, how relaxing. Wishing you all the best for 2024.
If the revere wear, it has made in USA stamped on the bottom. It is truly a find.
When I lived in LA, I used to visit Kernsville several times per year. There is also the grove of 100 Redwoods up the canyon from town that are glorious.
I often complain when I see the prices here in the Netherlands, but it is nothing compared to California, unbelievable. Thank you for the video.

America and Europe are so different. But for your style of life America is great! ❤ from my homestead in Portugal!

Epic wildlife and wilderness shots ❤ love your videos set to such relaxing music! Thx
Thank you 😊
If you drive up all the way to the end of that road that follows the Kern river, you'll end up at "The Trail of a Hundred Giants." A redwood trail.
My great grandfather spent the last twenty years or so of his life in Kernville. Rinaldi was the name.
Your videos always have me rethinking the current lifestyle I am in. But for sure it’s not for everyone. The western edge of Cali is just as amazing as the eastern edge for sure. I go up there for new years all te time but didn't this year.
I stay at the same camp ground you are at.
Darn it .
Sorry I missed you
Without a doubt, the most beautiful work I have ever seen. You truly are an artist! BRAVO!!
Thank you so much 😀
Merle Haggard has a couple songs about Kern River.
Oh wow! I didn't know that. I'll look them up. Thank you!
@@CatherineGregoryAdventures Kern River and Kern River Blues. One of them was the last song he did before he died.
See Dave Alvin's version of Kern River......haunting.

@@markpirtle1096 We were on big ADV bikes, too. Rater go " up from " K.V. than "down to" for sure.
Reference to Kernville or the Kern River always reminds me of Haggard's song Kern River.
You always find the best camping spots. Love the small town. Looking forward to seeing more of your adventures in the new year. Thank you for another great video.
The whole Kern River Valley is just so beautiful from top to bottom. Thank you for bringing back memories of my youth.
Your the best virtual travel agent. Ever thought of putting tour log of your adventures. Just a yearly guide of where you been and if you recommend. The route you took. 😊
Revere ware was made in Rome, NY and operated until the early 2000s. Very high quality. Which is hard to find now.
I go to Kernville and the lake at least once a month. It's my favorite quick motorcycle ride, or quick trekking with my dog, to get out of Ridgecrest. Glad you like it. 😁💜✌️
Beautiful 😊
Welcome to my hometown and yes you would definitely love living here.❤
Way to go on your milestone for 2024. I've been following you for quite some time. Love the nature photography. Thanks

U could use broth or wine to help deglaze the pan creating a sauce.
the new curtains look nice make it feel more warm in the cold weather
I camped there years ago. A chimpmunk got into a box of powdered donuts, and there were little footprints all over everything! He showed up 2 days later all fat and puffy!!
In the 80’s a group from work went out to hospital flats above Kernville. ❤❤❤ Happy New Year!! Looking forward to 2024!
I love the energy of your videos! We like to visit the same kinds of places/areas and I appreciate very much you sharing your adventures! 🙏🏼

Beautiful it is kern river went as a kid camping with Family😊
Love how down to earth you are. I also enjoy estate sales and thrift shops. Much better quality than the new stuff.
Really appreciate your esthetic! Thanks for bringing us quality videography and musicology along with your adventures.

If you want to touch up the shape of the hat to match up the sides, just get some steam going from your teapot and use the steam to soften up the area you want to change. Hold it in place until it cools, then spray it with spray starch, sugar water, or a very stiff hairspray and it will hold its shape.
Thanks for the tips!

TY for such a informative video, last year you provided the best hikes to the most beautiful places! Be safe on the road.
Good job of showing us the beautiful Kernville and Lake Isabella area. You look nice in your new cowboy hat.
Hope you get to 100k very soon!🫶
Great video. Thanks for sharing. Like the new, aged Stetson hat. Maybe add feather to dress it up more, turkey or eagle? Happy trails.
Kernville is a beautiful place, last years floods were epic there hope the town is recovering
