Regarding PTSD, consider looking on youtube at life of Ramana Maharshi, passed in 1950 but way of living/"being" was and is transformational to those who are open and allow attention to his example. So many accounts over decades from people who simply were in his presence with all sorts of problems and questions resolved. Fascinating, simple, clarifying, therapeutic, freeing, soul-expanding, peace-giving, massively joy and relief-giving. Not counter to/in opposition to Christianity etc, per se... just a sort of unique and direct way of connecting calmly and deeply with our one inner nature and sustainer... Thanks for your service.

Well Cat, for us you kicked it out of the park with this one. 42 years ago we spent our honeymoon in the Bamas. Poured rain, 2 person tent, 3 dogs. LONE pine laundromat for drying out. The Dow Villa motel a total favorite, the cafe the best and their baked goods outstanding. So many beautiful and wonderful memories. We just can't describe what we felt watching this. Thank you and another great Sunday with my cup tea and you.

Everyone is entitled to at least a semi vacation from where they live full time. You so deserve a bit of a break. We thank you for all you do for us. We live in the Sierras and we aren’t that far from this site. It encourages us to get back out there. In our 70s now and have slowed down a little during the winter but we can’t wait for it to warm up some. Thank you so much.

Just home this morning at 05:00 .. rain chased me out of my camp spot. When I picked up my new rig I went thru the Alabama Hills on my way home .. was bit of a convaluted route. I did stop in Lone Pine .. been years since I was there. I saw the camp sites that were no longer accessable .. it's happening all over the place .. Death Valley too. 🤠

I am a full-time nomad living in a converted cargo van. Presently, I'm housesitting until March. The owners who live in Texas will vacation here in March through the summer to escape the heat. This cottage is at the 6000 feet elevation above the Inland Empire. It's been wonderful to have this break to relax and complete some projects on my van. However, at times, I get antsy and want to resume traveling. I love the area around Lone Pine, Mammoth, and June Lake Loop. It's a shame that so many previously open camp sites have been turned into day use only. In March, I hope to stay in New Mexico's open areas and state parks. Happy New Year, Catherine! Stay safe.

It was a request from my husband before he passed. It was a place that he so wanted to visit so he went with me in spirit. It will definitely be on my list to return. Next time I think I’ll treat myself to that hotel.

Summer of '94, I was an officer on an oil tanker getting repairs done in San Francisco. When my 90 day work tour was up, instead of flying home to New England, I purchased a motorcycle and rode home. I first went down to San Diego and hung out with a friend for a bit and my first night back on the road, I stayed in Lone Pine. I still remember how beautiful the area was. It was a great trip, but I really regret not taking the time to really see the the areas that I passed through. It's not that easy traveling by bike and I guess I was in a bit of a rush to get home.

It’s the vinegar on the sandwich that makes your mouth water. Unless of course you get the pepper relish. I bet Mike got that recipe from Joyce’s Subs in Lincroft NJ.

I enjoyed seeing this hotel! I love the old west and western movies too. Was different seeing you there but I liked it. I like changing things up a bit every now and then myself to keep from falling into a rut. Have a great week!

Thanks Cat. I really enjoy your work. I used to do a lot of hiking and nature photography in my younger years and thoroughly enjoyed the many trips that I took. My knees are non-stop cussing at me these days so I harken back through your wonderful images to my past. Stay safe and have fun on your adventures. Can't wait for the next episode. Hugs, Dave

I LOVE historic hotels and motels. My favorite, so far, is the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook Arizona. What a fabulous piece of Americana. I am making a mental note about the Dow just in case I ever make it to hat area.

Beautiful sculptural rock forms on that trail and great rest of video - a good balance of practical and emotional points, just the right length. I would have been wrapped up in a scarf and mittens in that cold! Brrrr. We’ve just had a lot of snow in NJ and I need to purchase an insulated waterproof hiking shoe for snowy trails….after last winter I thought we’d never get snow again….wrong.

My wife keeps asking to go to the Alabama Hills. We usually drive through Lone Pine and head to camping off the Tioga Pass. Your video has me promising we will finally go to the Hills.

Catherine, I must say that Jersey Mike’s is always a good substitute for a taste of Philly. I’m from Philly and now live in Ohio so I know how to appreciate a taste of home. Catherine, I still enjoy listening to you as you narrate your videos. You are truly great in what you do🌹. It is beautiful to see Mt. Whitney which is a place to I will like to see. There is nothing wrong about staying in a hotel. I have stayed in a hotel from time to time. It’s kind of a treat the way I look at it. You are totally awesome to watch and listen to. Stay safe and stay healthy. Catherine, travel onward and go with God. Thank you for sharing

I can see why you like that area Catherine, very rugged and beautiful. I was surprised how nice the trail was that you were on. That hotel was very nice, I like the retro look, it was very well kept. Safe journeys ahead!❤

The Alabama Hills Cafe has hands down the best food in Lone Pine. Thanks for sharing your trip and will have to check out the Dow hotel during one of my next trips.

We came back to PNW (home) after our 'snowbird' trip last year via the Alabama Hills. Liked it so much we stayed a week instead of 2 nights. Its a beautiful area & the BLM lands are great. Driving the North Serra's was a great scenic drive after doing the I-5 route for several years. We find after about 4-5 weeks we're ready to get back to our house. A little ran down from the travel & set ups. We hicked the same trail. As a photo bug myself, I took about 400+ shots. And yes; sad to say, they've closed several areas.

Good morning! We've warmed-up here... 24F with a 9F windchill. 10" of snow on the ground from last Monday and this past Friday.... I've stayed at the Dow many times over the years. Never in the old hotel, though. Always in the motel. I like having the fridge and the microwave. I've also stayed in the Best Western and the Quality Inn back when it was still a Comfort Inn. The Diow is my favorite because of that 24-hour hot tub,! A buddy of mine used to own KNYO-800 radio in Lone Pine. (Long since silent and deleted by the FCC.) Studio was at 123 Main in Lone Pine. Transmitter and tower were out Mazourka Canyon Rd, south of Independence, east of 395. Shame access to so much of the wilderness is being rationed, if not eliminated entirely. My Congressman is among those who want to make National Parks and Forests on an advance reservation only basis. No more trips on a whim if that comes to pass. May Almighty God continue to Bless Guard, Guide, and Protect you in your adventures! 73! (P.S. My Jersey Mike's favorite is #17. It may be a franchise cheesesteak. But, if it's the only cheesesteak in town...!)
