At around the 2:43 mark you mention that there isn't much point planting until you get fertilizer unlocked, and while it makes for a good transition to talk about fertilizer you are actually fine planting crops that don't have a star value. Sure if you plant 20 carrot seeds you likely will end up with somewhere between 16 and 19 carrot seeds back if all you are using is peat, you'll still be growing enough carrots that you can sell a few of the surplus to the farmer. If you sell more after that it's profit and helps unlock the next tier of the farmer's goods. I specifically point out that you want to do this with the crops without a star value because annoyingly the farmer won't buy crops with a star value even though he sells them. This means you'll need to convert those crops into something else if the goal is to sell them for profit. On the other hand, the crops that don't have a star value can be sold directly or processed into something else..
Star value crops get ‘sold’ to the Merchant, or rather, you can sell them in the business you and the Merchant start together. It only sells in bulk, however, so you’ll want to be well-established with a stock to work from by then.

@@oxilef8471 If you keep on farming and cooking you'll get a bunch on green points! As for red they're a bit more tricky since you need to craft things, so you'll naturally accumulate them as you build. However I heavily recommend building grave fences and stones, as this gives you both red AND blue points that are hard to get early game. You can also buy points from the Astrologer by buying his books and clicking "use". Hope this helps :)
I made enough for a new whetstone off the tier one crops keeping half selling half, but the value of sale just drops if you sell too much, I was worried to get into tier 2 for its initial investment cost, I have around 10 silver left, but now that I know how to make nutrients, im going to load the game up now. Thanks alot.
This makes me want to get the game for PC, I have it on my Switch but it is much harder to navigate all the menus and the visible map area is much smaller. Plus my crops don't wave in the wind and that is worth it right there!

I found a free planting place at the astrologer's garden at lighthouse. Only one spote though. Probably not useful, but a cool find.

Yeah, you can use peat (compost) but I'm pretty sure you won't get enough seeds back! It's good in a pinch though :)
