    One thing I do that you might like to try is I set my drill press up to make the hole for the worm screw to also be my depth hole, just speeds up production. I make tons of little bowls and batch cutting is a great way to spend the day at the lathe. Also the bowls are sized so I can clamp the foot and after the bottom is done the outer ridge fits over the outer part of the jaws, so l only change out worm out, just to cut down on too many tools to keep track of 😂

    When I was first learning to use a lathe I made a large plate with a lip around it. It's made from camphor laurel and I use it all the time. I've had it for at least five years. It warps a little then goes back to flat. It's been in the microwave and has gained some patina of life and I wouldn't use anything else.

  • @MarklTucson

    Very good video; really like the way you approach letting the wood stabilize before final turning. Hadn't thought of doing that to turning projects; it makes perfect sense. I did something similar to what you described when I was building furniture (haven't done that in a while) -- I would let the wood acclimate to the shop, then rip the boards to rough dimension, and let them settle before planing and jointing them. Since we live in a desert environment, that seemed to be sufficient; I didn't need to rough plane or joint the wood.
    The microphone sounds really good. It's easy to hear you and the machine sounds are greatly reduced.

    Sound is good. Yes, wood warps, but if you're starting with the tree you can select for wood that won't warp as much--time of year you cut it, internal stresses--such things make a difference. I would like to know what you watch for to minimize problems and I think others would too.

    • @tomislavtomasicwoodturning
      @tomislavtomasicwoodturning  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are completely right , a lot of factors play and even with that, its not a 100% thing.... Wood is natural and small change in humidity can couse to warp...
