- This is a quick tutorial on how to program the door keypad code by using the keypad itself rather than the My Ford Touch infotainment system. This works for many other years and models of Ford vehicles too.

Never thought I would need this but this weekend I went out 8 he drive away from home. Long story short my keys and phone got stuck inside the car. Small dent to get it unlocked but hey. Now am home rested. Got my new code in so I know my code for now on. Those who read my comment. @@gavinoloupe135 I’ve heard that. I’ve never gone looking. I did it once on a rental car (was gonna have it for 6 months) and got it off the sticker on the electrical board under the drivers side dash and it was wicked too. Had a phone under there taking random pictures trying to see it. I couldn’t get my head under. Haha
@@Phatphatyo hahaha yeah when I had to find it for my truck, I got absolutely 0 sleep last night and it took every once of sanity not to snap that weak flimsy plastic to pieces. I managed to do it, it's not that it's super hard it's just annoying tying to shove my coconut sized head into that small space hahaha

Pierre Majeau I don’t know anything about that. It would depend on the vehicle. Most of them have immobilizers anyway that are far more complex than a simple switch in the ignition wiring.

Just a heads up.
If ur lights, the keyless entry lights,come on and stay on. Change the battery in ur key fob. It's the alert to tell u ur battery in ur fob is low. Its in the manual as well. Hope this helps someone. Ive had 2 fords. 2002 Explorer and 2013 Escape

I have a 2018 f150 but had to buy a separate wireless keypad... will this still work, or do I have to use the dash settings to do it...

I don’t think the tailgate option was until 2015. I’m not 100% on that but I don’t think 2014 had it.

Yeah I think so. Remember that you can’t delete a code, you can only delete all of them at once. But you can save a code over the old code and that will delete one at a time, kind of. It just saves over the old one.
Are you able to delete the master code if you don't want the previous owner knowing it after they sold it to you?
Nope. I’ve heard dealers can but they’ll either charge you or tell you it can’t be done. I’m not sure if it really can by them or not but you can’t on your own, no. Pretty crappy.

This worked great and I was able to set a new code but it did not delete my old code. If I type in my old code it still unlocks my car. Is there a way to erase that?
Yeah you have to erase them all and start over programming new ones. If you do I from the screen inside you can delete one code at a time but from the keypad outside you can only delete them all. You can’t however, delete the original factory code. That can’t be changed inside or outside. It stays there. Only the dealer can change that one and I’ve heard many of them don’t know how and will tell you that they can’t but some people have gotten them to do it I guess. Who knows.

I don’t know anything about Suzuki. I do know it’s going to be way different than Ford. I’d almost guarantee you have to take it in to program the key. The key has a chip transponder. Unless you just mean the locks. But they would be different than Ford also. Sorry but I’m no help with Suzuki.

My 2015 Explorer XLT has the same keypad. I’ve never used the keypad. In the last couple of days it started blinking and intermittently staying solidly lit. The doors also automatically lock when I’m sitting in the car for a few minutes with the fob inside the car. I’ve searched the Internet for a solution and only found people having the same problem and no real answers - not from Ford or the dealerships either. Do you know of a solution?
I don’t unless it’s got water in it or a short in it. For what it’s worth, I do know that pressing the 7/8 and the 9/0 at the same time (the last two) locks it. Maybe something is making it think those two are being pressed, whether water or a short. Try it to be sure but on the outside, press the last two buttons at the same time. It should lock it. If so you’ve got one that does have that feature and maybe something is making a connection you don’t want. You could pull the door panel off from the interior (really isn’t hard) and unplug the connector to the keypad and drive it around for a while and be sure that the keypad is what is doing it for sure and not the key fob or the lock button on the inside of the door or something. Just to isolate the problem anyway.
Phatphatyo It happens whether the fob is near the car or not. I read about others having the same problem and it draining the car battery. Is there a video showing how to remove the door panel? Yesterday I left the fob in the car while buying gas and after a few minutes the car locked itself with the fob inside. It’s a push button start and the fob detected when I start the car but you’re not supposed to be able to lock the fob inside without another fob outside the car.
Janet Beers yeah the only way to lock it inside with a push button on a ford (and most others, not all) is to use the keypad so you’re right about it being the problem. I’m sure there are videos of pulling the panel. I don’t have one on my channel but I’m sure there are some. If you don’t find one for removing the drivers side door panel, look for one on speaker installation in the doors. There’s a lot of those out there I know and they’d show it being removed too
Yeah, all this is described in the owners manual, no new. But how do you input even numbers for a new code, or are codes restricted to uneven numbers?
You just call it what it is. For example, your 1 might be my 2. If my code was 12345 I’d press 1 twice (1,2), then 2 twice, etc.
I have seen numerous videos explaining how "the doors are locked" but nobody seems to mention if that also means the alarm is turned on or if the alarm is not turned on as a result of locking the doors. Can someone answer this question?
Yeah it activates the alarm. I can confirm. If you lock with the keypad with the windows down I can reach in and it goes off even without touching anything. (I have the platinum, it’s got the motion sensors). I’ve also unlocked it on the inside after locking with the keypad and it goes off. I also lowered the trailer onto the hitch and it went off once the truck started to squat.
To clarify, when you turn the truck off it asks if you want the alarm only or if you also want the proximity sensors (platinum and limited only I think) and by default when you use the keypad it does the proximity sensors irrespective of what you chose last when you shut it off. It defaults back to using them.
How do you reset win the master code has been deleted?
The master can’t be deleted. Only the programmed or learned codes can. It’s stupid really because I see my old truck driving around from time to time. I could still unlock it. I’m sure the new owner changed the code but I remember the master still. If your master isn’t working maybe be sure it’s the master code. I have a video (subscribe if you want more) that you should check out on how to find your master code if it’s forgotten or misplaced. It’s horribly made but you’ll get the idea. I didn’t show it in the video but you can also find it under the passenger right side kick panel if you pull it and also on the panel under the left side of the drivers kick panel but there’s a plastic cover on it you have to take off and it’s tight to get to. The method in the video mentioned is the better way but you’ve got to have 2 keys with you to do it. Subscribe and check that video out. Hope it helps. Dan
How can you change the factory code? We had vehicle break in and the card was in the glove box. If they come back at a later date they have unlock access to my truck. Thanks
Only ford can change the factory code unfortunately. You can change user codes but not the factory one without them plugging into it. The bad news is I’m sure they charge for it but if you made a claim for the break in I’m sure you can tack the charge to change it on as part of the claim because it’s a direct result of the break in.

I’m not sure, everyone in the neighborhood got windows busted but not mine. Alarm went off at 3:30 am and once the police arrived and arrested some of the guys I went to assess and my glove box and arm rest were open. They didn’t take the card but could have taken a picture. It was a crew of 9 between 2 vehicles
Any code input in the pad will unlock the door... literally any combination of numbers. Over tried erasing the codes but nothing works. Any ideas?

2017 F 250, batteries died last month. Anyway, was locked out my truck recently, key pad with my personal code would not work. Found the factory code and it will not work either. Any suggestions?
No I don’t have any ideas for that one. The factory code should always work because you can’t change or disable it. You can change your codes but the factory always stays the same. It should work after you charge the battery back up.

The factory code shows up when I place the 2 different keys in that hidden spot below the armrest, but when I try to use it to unlock the door. Nothing.
Troy Delahoussay do all of the buttons work? Did one go out? Hit one and see if they light up, then wait for it to go out and hit the next and be sure it lights up. Go through each to be sure they work. Remember if you have the touch sensitive ones that the first push often just lights it up. Then you enter it.

I don’t. Sorry. Mine has always worked. I would start with fuses because I don’t think they can be turned on and off. They should always be on.

But they also told me I could probably do it myself so I looked up TH-cam videos and come across here so I don't really appreciate the help. Everything worked out.

You’re right. I was going to add it and I forgot to. I need to do that. If you have a screen inside you can delete a user code but if you don’t and the keypad is the only way, then there isn’t a way to delete individual codes. You can only delete all. To delete them, type your factory code, the locks will cycle, then press 1/2 within a few seconds, then hold down 1/2 for 2 seconds. Locks will cycle and you’ll know it was deleted. Try it to be sure.
Now- the way I delete them is I guess in the video but maybe I should have clarified because I guess it isn’t assumed, but I save a new code on top of an old code and the old code goes away. So if user 2s code is 22222, save whatever you want (I use my own code but you can use whatever) on top of that user 2 spot and the old one goes away. It doesn’t really erase the second user in the sense that there are still multiple codes saved whereas the other method would erase them all but it does in a sense delete it. Either way works.
Word of advice- I always keep a temp code (my user 3) that I can hand out if I ever had to. I’ve had family pop into town and need in my house and I gave them the truck code so that they could open the garage door. Then I just change the code after you get back to the truck and not only can they not get in again but you don’t have to reset the user 1 & 2 codes and start fresh.

I have played around with the screen on the dash to program it and with out knowing what I did got some words like... put in code but didn’t know what to do and then couldn’t replicate it again.
If you have the factory option it’s under settings, vehicle, and then door code or something like that. It may not be those exact words but it’s close.

blade n you I went and found pictures but just realized I can’t send them here. On the driver side just above and to the left of the brake there is an electrical box or control box or something with a wiring harness coming out of it. It’s on the back. You can almost see it with a small mirror. I did it on a rental once by locking my phones focus on super close up and poking it around back there. Then I watched the video and could see every number but one. Then I guessed a few times on the last number and got it. A smaller phone would have been easy. It’s on the back of it though. It’s not visible. It’s toward the firewall. So you either have to drop that box and turn it around or try and see it from the back.
How do you erase the old code. It programe the new code but my old one still works to
If I remember right you do the same thing but instead of hitting 1/2 to program you hit 3/4 to delete. I’m pretty sure you can erase all by doing that but you hit 1/2 to program and then hold it down after pressing it. I’m not sure on that but the 3/4 to program ought to work.
Or use the screen inside if you have it. That’s always easier than this process unless you don’t have it. Maybe that’s why you’re doing it this way.

The factory code can’t be deleted unfortunately.
How else could you find the master code?
It’s on the back of the ecu under the drivers side kick panel. It’s hard to get to but you can. I took a video with the flashlight on on my phone once with a rental car that I wanted to code for for the month that I had it. It was really hard to get the phone back here and get it to focus but it is on a white sticker with a barcode on the ECU. It is also under the passenger side kick panel (where if you had your feet sitting on the passenger side where they normally are below the dash when you sit in the seat - and you move your right foot to the right and hit the panel. That one). Remove the lock panel and it’s on a white sticker. A dealer can get it to you too if you take your title in and prove it’s yours.

Phatphatyo I have the same problem. 2keys. When I enter the factory code nothing happens bought the car used for my daughter.
Cindy Hughes if the factory code doesn’t work then something is wrong internally. The factory code should always work as it can’t be changed. If I knew who owned my old truck I could go open it with the factory code if I knew it because even though they likely changed the code that I had set, the factory code cant be changed.

No the factory code can’t be changed or erased.

You’ll need the factory door code. It’s in the manual or on the ecu under the driver side of the dash on a sticker. Or on a sticker under the passenger side kick panel. Or ford can look it up by vin.
How do you Erase the original code
You can’t erase the factory one unfortunately. I’ve heard a dealer can change it but you can’t. Not sure the cost to do it.
Can you erase one you have previously programmed? I have an aftermarket stereo, so trying to erase it from the door isn't working. I thought maybe you could just reprogram over each of the 3 storage slots.

Ford says this:
Enter the factory access code with the keypad.
Press the 1 and 2 buttons within five seconds of entering the factory code.
Hold the 1 and 2 buttons. Keep them held for about two seconds.
Tips
All the personal codes programmed to your car are erased with this step. You cannot delete one code at a time.
That being said, I could have swore that you enter the factory code, 1 to program as I did in the video OR 2 to erase, followed by the new code twice or code to be erased twice. I thought that you could erase without erasing them all. I could be wrong.
Mine completely stopped working and I think someone got into my truck and stole the owners manual

What do u do when you have the card with the master code but yet it does nothing? Tried numerous times and got nothing.
Greg Rowh I bet it’s the wrong card. The dumb thing about these fords is that you can’t change the master. For example- when I sell the truck and let’s say I know who buys it (I’m in a smallish town and it would be easy to pick out my wheels, I’ve tinted the lights, etc), I could always unlock someone else’s truck. The master can’t be changed. That being said, I bet you have the wrong card in your truck. I’ve heard before that the code is also somewhere under the passenger side kick panel by your feet. I’ve heard that you can peel the carpet back and it’s somewhere under a panel to the right of where your feet would go if you were sitting there.

@@Phatphatyo thanks for trying to help. This is a 1999 so too old to do the key trick I believe as it doesn't have all the fancy monitors on the dash. Tried looking around up by fuse box and removed the glove department. Found serial numbers in both places on things but did not find a five digit number. So weird that it would have the card in the manual but it not be the actual master code. I bought this at auction. Didn't come with the key fobs for keyless entry or a.code to the keyless remote pad. Frustrating!
Greg Rowh my boss had an older one that didn’t have fobs and we got her code. Put the key in the ignition and cycle it just like the video shows but instead of the button cycle the keys. You’ll need both keys but it shows the factory door code in the little display on the dash where the odometer is. At least hers did.

My wife (camera woman) May have been holding him. His breathing sounds close to the camera. Haha. Either way I wasn’t going for professional. What if you have no key, how do you find the code?
Under the kick panels on the back of a control box. Drivers side you can almost see with a small mirror. Some you can and some you can’t. Depends on the model. The passenger side kick panel is easier. It’s on a sticker on a piece of plastic under there. Almost under the dash.
