You should use the lens hood ALWAYS (indoor and outdoor) to avoid undesired light to reflect on the lens and get perfect photos. Only in the case you shoot with built-in flash you could get the lens hood out to avoid black shadows. If you use a speedlite mounted on the camera, there is no problem to keep the lens hood in place.
