There are a few very rare times when you will need chrome swivels sockets to get in very tight places!! I have Snap On and Cornwell impact swivel sockets AND chrome “Blue Power” swivel sockets for that few times you will need the thinner walls to get in there. 👍👍👍👍 Outstanding Video sir.

I'm not so sure about buying Chinese sockets but you were fair across the board. Snap On NO, if I were to run across MAC at a pawn shop or on marketplace, maybe. I don't have access to any tool trucks for warranty. Think I'll dig a little deeper on Grey and Wright.

If you haven’t yet, look into Astro Pneumatic, Sunex, and Capri. They’re all well priced and well made. I wouldn’t go super cheap, but I wouldn’t go premium either (unless you use them almost daily).
Geez man you have a nice set up but for some reason you just yap and yap and take forever to set up the main part of the video. I know my opinion doesn’t matter but I’m sure I’m not the only one that thinks this way
I personally prefer welded pin impact wobbly socket. The Snap-on ones are great but I wish they would cut the back edge at the drive in like the high end matco help with clearance.

For the offshore stuff SUNEX is the best from what I’ve found. Great balance of size & durability, along with a solid warranty. I also have the HUSKY, and while they look nice they are much too bulky for daily automative/technician work. I refuse to buy Chinese stuff, but TAIWAN allll dayyyy loooooong! Great video!
the only thing that matters with swivel sockets of any kind is how small can it be and how quick you can get them warrantied. they all break i have a back up 18mm impact swivel just with that in mind one mac and one snap on. mac is shorter than the snap on so i use that one 1st and snappy after that one breaks
I agree, size does matter when it comes to universal sockets. As for warranty, I stick with the tool truck brands for the most part, as I don’t want to suck around with offshore customer service to warranty a tool.

Personally I try and buy USA, German, and Japanese tools. I like Wright impacts but don't like the full broaching they use on their deep sockets past like 14mm if I recall. I really like Williams USA for sockets then I fill in the mid length sockets with Snap on. Wrenches Wright makes good standard combos but really like Hazet. I also like SK x frames and recently bought some ICON flex heads because my gear wrenches start flopping if you blow on them. Time will tell if the ICON's hold up. Thing is I don't know of any USA made flex head ratchets.
i try to buy all usa tools but i have sunex swivels. i am not full time mechanic so its hard to justify snap on swivel pricing unless i get a sick deal on them. sunex seem to be holding up great i have them in all drive sizes
I tried to save money and got the x core they suck. I have binding issues and chunks of metal come up from the inside of the socket. For that reason I got the snap on which I had in 3/8 already. Also the matco pinless are good too.
I buy a lot of mid grade such as icon, tekton ,gearwrench because I am a dyier but I like good toools . So now I’m trying to pick up some Williams and snap on
I work at a refinery and I'm gonna tell you something neither mac or snap on ain't got nothing with the bolts we deal with I'm talking about at least 2in nuts... they might be good for the general mechanic but for industrial like in the refinery doesn't cut it.. the only brand that does the job and only is the proto hands down.
When it comes to 2" and above the Wright wrenches are so much nicer than the proto. Wright 3/4" and 1" drive ratchets blow away the proto as well. Also prefer Wright impact sockets but the chrome proto sockets are very nice.
Wow all the skips in that husky set. Some of the most common missing. No 16 or 18. How no 18? I hate sets like that. My first and only big set of impacts i got the sunex metric. Has shallow deep and swivels from 7-24 i believe. No skips. Great set. Its amazing how hard it is to find a set w no skips these days
The Husky set has all you need for Japanese/asian vehicles. In the last 15 years I have never used a 16mm and just recently used a 18mm on an aftermarket part. Also Sunex skips sizes. I was about to buy a 1/2 set but they skip 24mm. Instead of a 24mm the set includes 26mm which I have never used. For a swivel socket you can always use a univeral joint and add the socket you want if a set is encomplete. But I understand wanting no skip full sets.

Ok, so what I finding is, the “shinny” appearance is called an “Electro-phosphate” finish, whereas the dull/matte finish is more of a Black Oxide finish. You can visibly see the machining marks on the dull finish, whereas as the “EP” finish is smoother.

I don’t know if this is a sarcastic question or a legitimate one, but in my experience, cheap tools have a higher probability of breaking. Tools w/o mechanical function (e.g. extensions, sockets, screwdrivers) typically are less prone to failure, whereas ratchets or even sockets with joints (e.g. universals) have a higher chance of failure. Personally, I want a tool that will function on demand. I don’t want to worry about tool failure or damaging the work, nor do I want a tool to slip and cause an injury to myself…that is the difference between cheap offshore brands and USA Made.
I have the Gearwrench x core pinless metric set that I’ve been using daily and I’m surprised how well they hold up but the inner pinless x core part is soft and it gets a lot of play in there especially on my Milwaukee fuel impacts
It’s strange how they didn’t catch that. Their X-core pinless universal extension impacts allegedly have the same design but don’t really have that failure point 🤔
I’ve been doing some research and I’m debating on getting some Astro pneumatic swivels. They are cheaper then grey pneumatic, sunex, and the icon line from harbor freight. I’m not sure what to get because I want some decent ones but not super cheap ones

That buy was a once in a lifetime type of deal. Guy had tools and he “needed the cash” so I bought everything for $60. I truly did not need this set, but went through with the purchase to review, test and provide insight. I want my viewers to know I have continuity and the best way is to sample a little of everything

I think the USA made criteria is way over rated. When you look at the quality, there are some USA tools that are worse than on USA made, also the other way around. Just because a tool is made in the USA does not make it better. It will make it higher priced though for sure. You really need to look at each tool and evaluate it.
The Craftsmans were made by Armstrong as well but good luck finding them from a person that doesn't think they are worth a fortune. The prices people are asking for Craftsman USA stuff is crazy especially when you can get nos Armstrong for cheaper and they are better tools
No they aren't, you have proto, SK, Armstrong, wright, Allen, kd, kobalt USA. Check out cripe distributing, Harry j Epstein, ebay, pawn shops always have bins full of sockets you just have to go in and dig and search
Armstrong is out of business. But you also have Williams USA, Channelock, Klien, Lisle, Wilde Tool, Mayhew. Some of these companies sell USA and overseas tools, so you just have to look.

Not all matco sockets are Taiwanese and there’s not a ratchet I own from matco that’s not American made if you look on the ratchet it has an American flag on it
I’m fully aware of which tools are manufactured in the USA that are sold by Matco. After all, I have an entire service cart filled with Matco. There are a large portion of their tools which are offshore rebrands; that’s a fact. Their most popular socket is the ADV brand, and it’s Taiwanese.

I doesn’t bother me to use offshore manufactured tools, as long as the are reliable. However, if I can buy domestically, we’ll that’s what I’m going to do. Consider this, the Asian culture is brand loyal in every way. How often do you see an Asian American driving an American Made vehicle? Most often, they buy Honda, Toyota, Nissan, etc., which is fine, but if they’re unwilling to buy American Made products while living here, why would I want to support their country with what I buy….? I know it’s impossible to be 100% all American, but… when you can support your homeland, it’s nice to do so…

Ya i have the sunex ones n they have the collar. Definitely gets in the way sometimes in tight spots. Other than that they are great sockets.

I doesn’t bother me to use offshore manufactured tools, as long as the are reliable. However, if I can buy domestically, we’ll that’s what I’m going to do. Consider this, the Asian culture is brand loyal in every way. How often do you see an Asian American driving an American Made vehicle? Most often, they buy Honda, Toyota, Nissan, etc., which is fine, but if they’re unwilling to buy American Made products while living here, why would I want to support their country with what I buy….?
