GBO2 Gundam MK-III: Still waiting on those buffs...

  • This video contains two recent matches I had with the LV2 and LV3 Gundam MKIII on Gundam Battle Operation 2. It is a 550-650 cost general with piercing on both ranged weapons, high mobility and solid melee output. It has many weaknesses though; such as being horrendously fragile, poor LV2 Maneuver Armor breaks, mediocre shooting damage if not piercing multiple enemies along with constantly needing to stop to fire for its only sub weapon. This is one of those suits that feels nice to control due to how nimble it is while also having an easy to use loadout, but all the weaknesses mentioned before makes it really struggle. In rare cases like these two matches it can actually put out nice damage output, so I hope that you enjoy watching!
    The primary ranged weapon of the LV2 MKIII is a beam rifle with 2205 power, 5 ammo, 5 seconds cooldown, 12 seconds reload, 0.77 seconds swap time, 405m range and 40% stagger value. This has really nice stats in basically every regard with it serving as a really nice tool for either initiating melee or before stunning into a beam cannons shot. It has piercing as well so you can potentially stun multiple enemies with it, but this also means you can friendly fire allies if not careful.
    Its primary melee weapon is a beam saber with 2730 power, 2.5 seconds cooldown, 0.77 seconds swap time and standard modifiers. This has high base strength which means it can do nice damage even with it having no special modifiers. It isn't too hard to initiate against enemies without Maneuver Armor as well since your beam rifle has fast cooldown.
    Its only sub weapon is a pair of beam cannons with 840x2 power, 55% heat, 2 seconds cooldown, 23 seconds overheat, 0.77 seconds swap time, 450m range and 35%x2 stagger value. This has enough stagger value to break LV1 Maneuver Armor in combination with your beam rifle and has piercing, though it does not instant stagger and it stops to fire. The damage is pretty low but the heat makes it nearly always available as a follow-up to a stun or downswing. It can technically break LV2 Maneuver Armor but this requires you to stop to fire twice with a 2 seconds long cooldown, so it is impractical. It also gets good scaling at 650 cost with 1000x2 damage, but at that point you are dealing with the opportunity cost of not choosing any of the MUCH stronger 650 costs.
    It also gets a large 5500 HP shield. This can soak up a fair bit of damage and once it breaks you get a +15% buff to walking/turning speed. This boosts your turning to 82 and walking speed to 155, 161 if cruise control is equipped. This makes you incredibly nimble but your durability issues are even worse if you lose this shield.
    The LV2 Gundam MKIII gets 15000 HP, 16 ballistic defence, 23 beam defence and 26 melee defence. It has sort of average beam and melee defence with low ballistic defence, but the major issue here is the pitiful HP pool. As a LV2 600 coster it has HP about on par with that of a 400 coster, so you will very easily be blown up if you mess up for even a moment. It has LV1 Emergency Evasion as is standard for generals.
    It also gets 135 walk speed, 210 boost speed, 70 thrust and 72 turning speed. This is actually really great mobility outside of the average boosting speed, further enhanced by having LV2 Forced Injector and LV2 Flight Control System. The strafing speed bonus is similar to suits like Alex, with 100% speed going side to side and 85% when going backwards. This makes playing around cover or dodging shots really easy, you will need to take full advantage of this to make up for your non-existent durability.
    Overall I think that the Gundam MKIII is severely lacking in strength. It has no hope of stopping the powerful raids of 550-600 cost while also having such poor durability that one wrong move will instantly see it being destroyed. I believe that it needs massive buffs to be a viable option. Buffing the shoulder cannons are probably out of the question since these are shared with the FA Gundam MKIII, so I think it should get two new sub weapons to enhance its combat ability. Outside of GBO2, it is supposed to store its beam sabers on the shield with the ability to use the shield as a melee weapon by turning on these beam sabers. It is also supposed to have a unique rifle which has the ammo packs from the Hyaku Shiki and Gundam MKII beam rifle loaded both at once, so adding a new rapid firing beam rifle sub weapon similar to Delta Gundam to reflect this would also be nice. After that just adding +2000 HP to all levels and it would probably be a strong suit. In its current state I cannot recommend you play it at all though. It lacks the piercing, but the same cost Gundam GP03 Stamen has a similar playstyle and handling feeling while being much stronger. Thanks for watching, and I hope that you enjoyed it!

    stats aside, still just one of the most beautiful MS designs from UC. Just really pretty.

    It's shocking how much the lack of Vulcan is felt whenever I sortie in this. With the current power crept state of vulcans, they're now incredibly effective tools for harassment, chasing, finishing off enemies, and even building good stun. Now, vulcans(or a similarly boost capable subweapon) being missing on an MS is a considerable gap in its toolkit

    Its a shame about the MKIII. I love the way it looks I personally think its a beautiful looking Gundam. The artist really did well making it. I just wish it was better in GBO2. It doesnt need to be meta or OP. I never got why it needs to stop to fire its shoulder cannons. They don't insta stun. Sure they do respectable damage but at its costs so many more MS do what it does and better.

    I remember wanting it so bad and after playing it all I felt was cheated. It feels like I’m playing at a 450 cost in the 550

    Severely needs vulcans atleast. I have no clue if this gundam even has vulcans but it needs something for stun accumulation like that sub-beam rifle you mentioned.

    I really love this suit and just getting around to checking its stats and stuff makes me sad, as I probably won't be playing it in too many rated matches possibly even quick ones especially since I just got done putting together it's Lost Red color scheme.

    I think i used this twice before i gave up on it. It needs vulcans or a weapon with strong stopping power on flinches. it needs armor too

    Needs Angelo's colors. But great job nonetheless!
    Edit: Also wanted to add that it definitely feels like a Midliner General, not because it can't commit to melee and its one dedicated stun, but a lot of the things that hold it back makes it a suit that is almost heavily reliant on the team. If the kit had more tools, it would most certainly be able to do work on its own and probably should get more playtime in the long run.

    I play the MK3 regularly much to the dismay of my friend. His main problem is that even though I can normally top damage on the team and have decent assist he says I don't contribute to enough stun potential which I guess I understand.

    Idk how u do it but Melee seems so simple in ur POV and when I try it I take an eternity to do the entire combo

      I think it comes with experience and becoming more confident. If you know that your stun will connect, then you also know that the melee downswing will connect. So you don't even need to wait to confirm if it stuns them, just shoot with the beam rifle then instantly swap to saber for the downswing.

      With the-o its resonance ability activated, which negates any reaction when it activates, with the s gundam it was just the spaghetti code in action

    the biggesdt issue for mk3 i still believe is due to the shit engine, the pentration on its br is incredible unstable and no one can handle that properly. Everytime you try to use that to save your team mates end up the br fly into the sky doing nothing. Also it has only 3 weapons, most time make decent 100k dmg is not that difficult.
