This test validates what I've always said and preferred, aluminum rounds all the way. I would venture a guess that the .68 cal. rounds have even more impressive results since that round is heavier than the .50 cal. (which heft-wise feels almost like an Airsoft BB).
Absolutely my man! Aluminum all the way. So with the 68 cal (not sure if you saw the video yet - posted yesterday) they did a bit more, but not as much as I was expecting. After analyzing it I realized that for the 50 cal I used Umarex CO2 cartridges, while for the 68 cal I used Crosman. Baffled by the difference I decided to do a proper Umarex vs Crosman CO2 test/video. Went to the Everglades yesterday and did just that. Umarex CO2 performs a lot better, as suspected. (Video coming out on Sunday) Sooo, all this to say, that I wish I had done the 68 tests with the same cartridges :)
@Alfonso it’s kind of different with these though because the 50 cal definitely sometimes can penetrate more due to it being able to have the same joules but with a smaller ball that can penetrate better, less surface area to penetrate with the same weight and fps
@@AirgunAlley Ciao Mitico!!

Thank you so much Mark!! I don’t have HDP50, so I can’t give you an accurate answer. One thing I can say: the aluminum balls are very light and not as bad on the barrel as the steel ones, for example. That said, I’m pretty sure you’ll have no issues with the new tuning barrel… best of luck with it!!
HELLO , having fun watching your videos. i have a 68 cal umarex revolver at 35 joules, could you tell me where to get the BB BUCKShoT rounds you have, IE: multi bb's in one 68 cal round that separate on impact? please attach link and also the 68 cal arrows for the same gun with the adapter so the cylinder doesnt move again on the 68 cal thank you
Great test, I've been wondering what the difference would be if used in a real self defense situation. I used steel ball bearings in my modified hdp 50 and have a seal stuck in the barrel now. I had one seal blow before,- (CO2 drained out) but this one is different. CO2 holds but there is a rubber gasket stuck in the barrel. Any idea what this could be? I only fired 2 steel balls- it happened on 2nd one. 1 st shot was great and powerful. Aluminum balls fire all day no issues.
Hey Scott! Oh man sorry to hear that! I hope some handy wizard will answer this (or even better, I hope you solved the issue already!) Wishing you all the luck in the world with it 🙌🏼

Hello my favorite Ninja out there!! You know? The 50 cal steel balls are a very mysterious issue. So many people have bought them and soon learned that they don’t fit. Even in the HDR 50. For some reason it seems that only that one cheap kind that I had found on Amazon, fit. Of course, the Homedefence-24 ones also fit well. But not all 50 cals you find online do 🤷🏻♂️ I appreciate you as always my friend!
Alright mate 👍 gotta give the aluminium balls the edge not by much though .hope your move went well and your all sorted .as always keep up the good work
ahahahah if you can get to the pasta ... here in Brazil you can barely get the beans. In the previous govern ment I used to have 2 9mm and a 38 special. Now with this com munist gover nment I am happy I still can get the TR50, plus a couple of long knives. And God! God bless American, oh boy I miss it!
To Air Gun Ally: Hope all is well! I got the HDR 50 (11 joules) gun a few days ago. I test fired it with solid aluminum balls, and could not come close to your results. I shot at a metal coffee can at 12 feet, and just got a bunch of bounce back shots, and only mild denting on the can. Your results did much better than my same gun. Am I doing something wrong to get such bad results? Any reply would be so much appreciated! I love your cool vids!
Hi my friend!! Wow that’s is very strange and I’m so sorry you are experiencing this. Are you shooting in the cold or in the heat. That makes a huge difference unfortunately. In Florida CO2 has a lot more power do to the constant heat. The ideal way to know is for you to shoot through a chronograph and measure the speed. That would tell us if there is an issue with the gun and if you’d need to send it back for a replacement….
I must add that the aluminum balls I got off Amazon did seem to fit very tight in the mag, I wonder if I oil them a bit for better results, what you think? And thank you for your reply! You are awesome!
@@humor62he is shooting the 11 joule version. I don't know if his marker has been modified to increase the power. Many people do increase the power. Depending on where you live and where you buy the marker, you might have the 7.5 joule version. It is also possible that the can you are shooting is stronger. A chronograph and precise weight of your projectile is the only way to know for sure.
Hey Andy! So sorry for my late reply… I’ve been setting things up these days and hope to have everything running soon. Undecided on which is better for that marker but heavier will bring energy further down range even if that power is lower over-all. Please know that your HDB has the same funny looking rubber barel seal as my problematic Compact. Just make sure you dont run too tight fitting ball through there. slightly undersised is better. Hope your move is going well. See you next week ;-]
Very helpful comment my friend . That barrel seal must be what my hdp50 blew out when I used a slightly larger steel ball. I just got it back after an inner seal repair and then this happens. The ball didn't fit my HDR but does fit hdp. I should've known it could be a problem but now it's clear. Smaller size projectile is better than tighter fitting. Now i have to get this fixed again!
I’d say 3 good rounds with the aluminum and maybe 2 good ones with the steel. Have a check at this video, it may also help a bit… th-cam.com/video/fLCILK-OJEA/w-d-xo.html
Please, what IS de diámetro exacto for hdr50 steel ball or aluminium ball? I bought 12,7mm steel ball and balls don't join into the drum, thanks you so much
Thanks a lot man! Dude, every time I walk my dog in my neighborhood I run into the coolest targets, just abandoned there! TVs, doors, drywall, tiles…… hahaah!
Aluminium balls are very good to get power. I have on the way 4.8gram steelballs, from homeDefence-24. Of course i have kit my a 'little' bit for more power. Without the long barrel (8inch) its hard to get some real joule. My next modified is to change the barrel to a 12inch. Ive read that 12 are the ultimate for my gun. I only shoot with 12g, for now.
Interesting tests. 8 g 0.5 cal steel balls produce serious damage to these targets with only 10-13 J. Extreme range of 9 mm Luger bullets is roughly 2000 yards and remaining energy 20-30 J. Such bullets can penetrate human skulls and kill. Time for 9 mm cododo tests 🙂
Aluminum vs steel balls: Depending on the hardness of the targets, the energy has the impact is equivalent. The 2 hurt a lot. I am happy not to be a coconut.
Ciao grande fratello...

HELLO , having fun watching your videos. i have a 68 cal umarex revolver at 35 joules, could you tell me where
to get the BB BUCKShoT rounds you have, IE: multi bb's in one 68 cal round that separate on impact? please attach link and also the 68 cal arrows for the same gun with the adapter so the cylinder doesnt move again on the 68 cal thank you
Gotta pause the video to say: that intro though 🤣

Bought a TR 50 with some steel balls but they are really hard to push into the cylinder and
I doubt the CO2 would push them out...
The part about the spaghetti in a can being forbidden in Italy is very funny. And yes, here in Italy they are forbidden 😂😂😂
I hope some handy wizard will answer this (or even better, I hope you solved the issue already!)
Wishing you all the luck in the world with it 🙌🏼
@@AirgunAlley thank you brother. I am planning to send it to some shop, out here in Los Angeles. Hard to find folks who work on umarex t4e though- Already had a repair done by a great guy on TH-cam " Complete Technology Solutions" he does a lot of mods and more. But I don't want to bother him with another seal repair- It was just a few days I had it back.
@@scottbeard9640 Sounds like the perfect time to take it back. 2 days after "repair".

Ha ha no the seal was just that. This is a blown out detent from me using a projectile that didn't fit perfectly in a high powered platform. Jon @complete technology solutions is very talented and reasonable. He's an invaluable asset in the LTL community
@@scottbeard9640 Good to know. Thanks and good luck.
Great test with stock gun.we all need steel balls.....both have have there place.very close test speed vs weight?💥💨
Thanks Joe. Very similar indeed. Probably from a longer distance the alu would perform better… will try that some other time. All the best friend!
Is this ammo a little harder to load? Like, you need to give it a little more force, and it is tighter in the wheel of the gun?
Hi! Yes, the steel ones are a little bit harder to push in, just slightly. But they fit the barrel with no problem, they’re not too big….
@@AirgunAlley thank you so much for reply. Can't wait for the next video.
Your intro cracks me up 😂
HI. Are rubber and steel bullets reusable? . Are steel bullets more powerful than rubber bullets?
Excellent vid. Would it pay to use a laser site? if so, which would you suggest (from Amazon)?
Hey my friend! Yes absolutely, for the HDR 50 I do recommend a laser or sights of some sort, as the ones on the gun are really hard to see (unlike the HDR 68 which has great sites!)
Anyway, this is a great one here: amzn.to/3GdemHn
But if you want something a bit cheaper, I've used this one and found it to be decent: amzn.to/3WMovSr
One thing that is a must for when using lasers and scopes is a Laser Bore Sighter to align them :): amzn.to/3vyAjMl

I thought I seen you do another video with aluminum balls that way 2.8 G that were going 370 feet per second
Hey Joe! I think you mean this one th-cam.com/video/65-_B0y_Tag/w-d-xo.html must’ve been a hotter day, they did go a bit faster in that video….
Hi. Did you widen the holes in the magazine for steel balls? Thanks for the video.
Hi my friend. No, the kind I have fit perfectly amzn.to/3xfhRZE Several people complained that some other versions don’t fit.
I found a really simple way to turn up the Jules by using a extended firearm pointed tool.
😱
I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THIS WITH THE 25 JOULES VERSION A GUNSMITH ON EBAY HAS FOR AUCTION , WOW . I BOUGHT 500 STEEL BALLS FOR MY HDP.50 ,they seem to be a thousandth or 2 inches to big ,they dont load ,when i pull trigger , it doesnt move , they might work in HDR 50 , WHEN I GET IT .good show as always brother !!!! anyways , i will order more steel balls because im in process of modding my HDP TO THE MAX ,INCLUDING THE TWO PIECE BARREL .BECAUSE THE FIRST BARREL MOUNTS IN PISTOL ,YOU GOT OPTION OF JUST KEEPING IT LIKE THAT WITH THREAD PROTECTOR ON ,OR ADD A DONNY MUFFLER FOR REDUCED SOUND . WHEN MORE POWER OR LONGER RANGE SHOTS IS NEEDED ,JUST ADD THE SECOND PART OF BARREL TO IT . I GOT INERT AND PEPPER ROUNDS ,RUBBER BALLS AND THESE BAD AZZ NYLON JAW BREAKERS THAT ACTUALLY BUST UP TIN CANS WITHOUT ANY DAMAGE TO THE PROJECTILES WHAT SO EVER , REALLY COOL !!! IM SENDING YOU A LINK I FOUND TODAY ,I ACTUALLY BEEN THINKING OF DOING SOMETHING LIKE THIS FOR SOME TIME NOW !!!
But not all 50 cals you find online do 🤷🏻♂️
I appreciate you as always my friend!
Do they make 68cal steel/aluminum balls that don't break the bank? The ones I see cost significantly more than the 50cal.
No parece destacar.
Gracias amigo!!
Have you considered buying a mold and pouring some lead balls?
With the weight of 50 cal lead ball it would probably lose all it's energy before it hit the target.
@@AkiraHDR50 have you watched the video where he used 50 cal lead pellets?

@@Boycott_Wendys yes I have but that HDR 50 was modded.

Do you think that would knock someone out in a self defense scenario?
Ok then, for home defense, aluminum or steel shot? .50 or .69 caliber??????
My favorite combination is HDR 68 (16 joules) with aluminum balls… check this one out th-cam.com/video/zBdoYfU5WHM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=kOKNPmNBkDWjLiDw
@@AirgunAlley Thanks.
@@J0HN_3_16 I found out the one I had was the 7 joules, I upgraded to the 11 joules with much better penetration results.

@@scottbeard9640 I had to learn it the hard way too. I've since got a brand new Compact that has only run Riotballs.

Aluminum best for the HDR .50?
Yes, I would say so. But I like to alternate ammo, using also ballbearing and pointy slugs
Damn i need to get some steel balls for my 50 and 68
I wonder what they would do at 500 fps?
A lot of damage 😂😂
And just for the record, mine are Steel! 💪🏽
Oh we have no doubt my friend! To do what you do, you need them made of steel!
Can i use 12mm steel ball bullet?
hello your videos are very good, it would be nice to have a translation or subtitles in portuguese-BR, here it is very difficult to acquire firearms
I have an Fsc what size Barrel do I need I shoot 686
Where can I get hrd 50 joules from
From the link in the description :)
Let me know if it doesn’t work, I’ll send a new one
Thank you my friend, indeed!! Have you seen my previous cododo 9mm videos! I just got a new batch, will make more :)
@@AirgunAlley Yes I saw the cododo video. These are promising projectiles and challenge devastators when energies are rised over 20 J
Wouldn't use either steel or chrome ammo. At lease until I beef up the gun power.
So are the HDR guns CO2 powered?
Yes?
Yessir! 12g CO2 cartridges
Aluminum vs steel balls: Depending on the hardness of the targets, the energy has the impact is equivalent. The 2 hurt a lot.
I am happy not to be a coconut.
Hahahaha! I’m also very happy you’re not a coconut 😂😂
Why do they call it joules and not FPS ???

Hi friend! Let’s say that the steel balls don’t travel very far. While the alu remain powerful also at long range…
I think it’s just about a tie
I agree! With the only (big) difference that the aluminum will go a lot farther. I should’ve also done a distance test actually

Comparative penetration tests insignificant. To be reliable, you should be shooting ballistic gelatin or a series of properly spaced metal sheets.
