  • Today we test these Seneca, big bore .50 caliber pellets in the Umarex HDR 50/ TR50. Will they work?? This video has answers!
    We also look at some excellent homemade 68 cal slugs, shot with the HDR 68 (30 joules!) with some nice slow-motions.

    Dude, thank you so much for taking the time to do this. I've been wanting to buy the HDR50 "Homewrecker" that's been modded to shoot with muzzle energy of 20 joules for a home defense option with greater deterrent potential than that of my Umarex Glock 17 (.17 pellets @ 350fps) or my Walther PPQ T4E (43 cal rubber/pepper/metal balls @ 410fps), but wanted to be sure I could fire conical rounds from her. Obviously .17 cal shaped pellets can press the off button on a coyote and similarly sized animals with accurate shot placement, but a thick jacket is enough to counteract any potential lethality even at close range. Which leaves the Aluminum 43 cal round ball ammunition I'm currently using with my Walther T4E which _certainly_ hurts and will absolutely penetrate skin, take out teeth, put out an eye, and would overall be less than ideal to be shot with anywhere at

    • @WizardClipAudio
      @WizardClipAudio ปีที่แล้ว

      Yah might want to be careful with the bees wax,… I made various projectiles using paraffin wax, as a sabot, or bonding medium. When the wax happened to be warm enough, to be tacky,… it resulted in quite spectacular dieseling. A power modded HDR 50 is loud enough on its own, but when it diesels, it’s enough to make your ears ring, and maybe draw unwanted attention. That being said, I’m not saying, I’ve never packed a little petroleum jelly, behind a 50 cal steel bb, and risked it blowing up in my hands and face.

  • @WizardClipAudio
    @WizardClipAudio ปีที่แล้ว +18

    The first thing I ever shot out of my HDR 50 was a lead ball bearing, for like black powder. Best, most affordable ammo I’ve found for the HDR 50 is 50,cal steel ball bearing.

    Hmm... a little cheat/hack to keep pellets in place: use some sticky paper labels over the face of the magazine, it should hold the pellets in place and would be blown apart by the shot, either that, or have two temporary THIN plates that you use to hold the shot in place while installing the magazine, and remove them when its installed

    1) Use a 1/2" hand reamer on the cylinder (by hand) not a drill bit. Hand reamers have a tapered section which can be used to create a tight bore at the end. 2) use pure lead round ball. They are the same weight, cheaper, more available, and they don't have a useless hollowpoint that isn't going to open up.

    I'm not an airgun shooter I stick to the real deal. I do think that this airgun is kinda cool. Using those lead pellets is an interesting idea. But for the price of them if it was me I'd pass. $25 for a box of 50 is expensive. I'm buying a 50 round box of 9mm for $15 or less. What could be an option is to cast your own pellets. I shoot black powder and I cast my own round ball. There are plenty of moulds available. Surely a few of them would work and it will be cheaper too.

      It would be interesting to see how a 50 cal round ball would perform. Also I think an easy option to perfectly size them to the cylinder is to drill a hole of exactly the right size in steel and pressing the lead balls through. It should shave a ring of lead off and if sized right would go right into an unmodified cylinder just right

    I think lead is too soft to have much adverse effect on the barrel, directly, you’re just not gonna wanna use wire brushes to clean the barrel. I also, think there’s room for improving lead projectiles to be optimized for the HDR50,…; Like the more hollow you could make the projectile on the interior, before risking it mushrooming prematurely and jamming in the barrel would be ideal. Maybe even one,… where you fill the mold to capacity with .177 BB’s, and pour the molten lead, subsequently, so there’s just minimal lead,.. only just sort of ‘gluing’ them together, until they smash into the target. 😊

      @@AirgunAlley having a TH-cam channel can put a lot of strain on a person , imagine having to comment on 1000's of comments each day , i see it a lot in others channels , eventually .
      they stop commenting all together lol. i know you and my other 4 favorites in the LESS THAN LETHAL world try their best at answering their comments .
      I know you try very hard to always answer the questions and comments by your subs , i just hope that people realize that you guys have a life , family and jobs etc. , that sometimes makes it hard to do this .
      I WANT YOU TO KNOW i appreciate all you continue to do for the LESS THAN LETHAL community , thats just one of many reasons you my friend are one of my 5 most favorite in this field .
      i just had a thought , would super gluing a perfect size rubber oring on that side of mag keep the ammo from going all the way through ? also super gluing a couple or 3 v shaped small piece of maybe something tough like weed eater line would help to keep the ammo from falling out ?
      i have also thought about the holes and nozzles of pressure washers , notice the higher pressures have the smallest holes , so i would imagine concerning co2 , would nt it be better to have smaller co2 exhaust opening to push the projectile with greater pressure or force out the barrel ?
      one of the best mods you can do to the newer , in the last 10 or 15 years , crosman 1077 is install that small oring in that exhaust cone part that shoots the co2 to the pellet in the mag .
      if you ever get you the inexpensive crosman 1077 , ill show you how to mod the internals to have way more power , i went from having about 60 shots from co2 tube to about 28 shots , by increasing the weight on the hammer , putting more of a stronger hammer spring to make hammer hit way harder .
      i did this with a simple oring lol , plus i shave some plastic off the part that allows the hammer to go further in the valve pin making it push it a lot further causing more longer co2 exhaust for a more powerful shot !!!!.
      another favorite all time co2 air pistol is the famous .357 or the newer version the "vigilante" , i love it the most because you can put pointed pellets in the mags , and especially the very nice H&N HORNETS WITH THE SOLID BRASS METAL SHARP TIPS in it , you cant do this in most mag fed airguns and rifles like the crosman 1077 !!!
      i guess on day i look into further power moding the vigilante , i did crown the barrel on both ends though and move the barrel real close the the mag , i guess putting a spring on it like umarex does for the hdr's would help also . it is by far , one of the most accurate co2 air pistols i have ever shot !!!!
      i also stretch my spring on the exhaust cone that pushes the cone closer and harder to the pellets in the mag . just like in all revolvers real ones and airguns , the space on both ends have always lost some pressure to the projectile because of the small gap on both sides to the cylinder or mag , pressure does escape in them spots .
      even in real firearms ,if you had your fingers or hands by the cylinder , you could get a very nasty burn , or have pieces of skin blown off at the least when you shoot lol , did you ever notice the fire that escapes in this area when you shoot ?
      i think getting better airflow to the pellet would be the key to more power , it has a small length of metal tube like the crosman 1077 rifle that supplies the valve with co2 , and maybe putting a lighter spring in the co2 valve would help also to allow more time open with less force needing to be applied to open the valve easier , along with increasing the weight of the hammer and spring tension so hammer hits a lot harder .!!!!!!!
      i just wrote a hell of a lot of things for you to consider my brother lol , oh one more thing , find you some bodies of water or lakes ,bayous ,rivers , and shoot at things floating in the water , you will see exactly where the projectiles go , it really teaches you the distances you air weapons or good at , so much precise fun and knowledge .
      well once again ,over and over and over again , my passion for airguns is clearly seen by the amount of words i write about the subject , lol lmao !!!
      HAVE A NICE DAY WITH YOUR AWESOME FAMILY MY BROTHER , AND ALWAYS REMEMBER TO ALWAYS HAVE FUN WITH YOUR SHOOTING AND VIDEOS !!!!!
