I love the main riff and middle instrumental, but the verse is a bit sluggish and not as bad ass, as the intro suggest the song is going to be. I have learned to appreciate it more over the years, but I still feel the song could have been more speedy or metal like Caught somewhere in time is for example.
One of my friends loves the first 7 maiden albums except for somewhere in time. He says it's all filler... I can see his argument for a song or two... but the whole album... I can't agree with him lol
When I was 14 years old, "Powerslave" came out. That was the album that really made me a huge fan of Iron Maiden. "Somewhere in Time" came out when I was 16 years old. I bought the cassette, took it home, popped it into the stereo, and I was blown away by how frickin' killer it was. It was strikingly different from their previous albums, but the foundation was still solid Iron Maiden. Derek Rigg's cover art really had a "Blade Runner" look to it. I'm 51 years old, now, and "Wasted Years" is still my favorite song. I don't think Steve Harris will ever really get over just how popular that song is.
I remember when that came out too and you are right about the art and I was blown away too at how good the songs were. I saw the tour. It was great. They had a giant Eddie terminator head for the drum riser and Bruce had an electro plasm jacket.
I honestly think it’s Iron Maiden’s best album. It’s like Steve Harris and the others don’t address its existence much because they know it smokes a majority of their albums.
@@MAIDEN-mn3to In my opinion, their least best album they released in post-reunion is Book of Souls. EDIT: My bad, I thought you said very least best album. I think SSOASS was their final album in their prime age. Their 90s albums are full of filler, but some of the songs on those albums slap like Public Enema Number One, Hooks in You, Mother Russia, Be Quick or Be Dead, Fear of the Dark, Sign of the Cross, Futureal, etc. The post-reunion albums like BNW, Dance of Death, and AMOLAD are amazing and took a big step up from their 90s albums since Bruce and Adrian came back.
"MY son ask for thyself another kingdom for that which I leave is too small for thee" alexander the great is so fucking epic my favorite track on the album 🤟
@@Cog_In_The_Gear Sounds like something right out of Bill and Ted's....good job! I had a similar experience using Rime of the Ancient Mariner as an inspiration for an art class pencil drawing project.....(any excuse to draw a creepy sailing ship with ghosts right?)......I just told the teacher it was based on a poem instead of a maiden song lol. @@jasonrackawack9369 So here’s the thing about that: Maiden didn’t write songs about boobs and beer and partying… they were thought-provoking and intelligent and if you listened to them you learned something.
@@Cog_In_The_Gear Thats exactly why they have been my favorite band since I first heard them through a friend in 7th grade about 30 years ago. Even at that age I had a hard time taking Metallica or the other thrash metal bands seriously after hearing Maiden.......I do still love Queensryche, Dream Theatre, Savatage, and the few other bands that make you think.
Deja Vu is so WILDLY underrated and overlooked. its so beautifully written and i will never get over how it was overlooked by the band and by a lot of people!!
Somewhere in Time has always been my favorite album by Maiden. And honestly if I had to choose only one Maiden album to listen to ever again. That would be the one
Somewhere In Time, unironically my favorite Maiden album. It's a shame Alexander The Great has never been played live, as it's arguably my favorite song in their entire catalog.
That melodic middle section, I was just thinking about it this morning, it’s almost the only time on record that Bruce vocalizes in this beautiful clear falsetto. So appropriate here.
Alexander the Great. My favorite! Multiple chord arrangements. The leads were phenomenal! All band members showed off their talents. The atmosphere the song created! I like every song. But this was my overall favorite!
@Lucien Swift songs you like less aren’t filler tracks. That’s not what a filler track is. It’s quite literally what the name means, the band filling a slot with something they’re not interested in creating but they’re trying to reach a certain length for the album
Caught Somewhere in Time, The loneliness of the long distance Runner and Alexander the Great are Masterpieces, and the rest of the album is great too...
@@GABRIELA-ACEVEDO. Hey! Someone else who likes Deja Vu! I can understand why people always make fun of it, but I think it’s an excellent song. The lyrics are pretty stupid though.
Adrian Smith was on fire in this album and carried the band in a way. Wrote alone 3 songs (+ I think Reach Out as a B-side aswell and couple of others) and the solos are magnificent, his best work definitely.
I spent so many hours in my bedroom just listening to that thing and looking at every detail of the artwork. At 13, I was pretty sure they were the greatest band of all time.
😁 Back in the day I actually bought that album, cause it looked so fuckin awesome! Without even having heard it! Those were the days of vinyl. What a surprise when I discovered the music was at least as good as the artwork 😀😀😀
Stranger in a Strange Land. One of my favorite IM songs. I love the breakdown to the guitar solo, and the solo that follows. They're two perfect chapters in a beautiful song that lifts the listener into the story.
In my opinion this is THE best Maiden album. It has progressive structures, but it never fails to be catchy and powerful. It's the great combination of Powerslave and Seventh Son styles and it has the strengths of both without having weaknesses they have. My favourite is probably Caught Somewhere In Time, probably the best Iron Maiden opening tracks out there
Lol I think people like to say it's the best because it's a bit different and non common as the records prior to it. While Caught Somewhere and Wasted Years are extremely correct, for the rest of the record, let's be TRULY realistic, there is no F**king way that Deja-vu, Heaven Can Wait, Alexander the Great and Stranger in a Strange are better than Still Life, Die With Your boots, Where Eagles Dare and To Tame a Land or Back in the Village, Powerslave, The Duelist and Rime, or MoonChild, Only the Die Young, Clairvoyant and lets not forget Prisoner, Gangland, 22 Acacia, Hallowed, Etc etc... And lets not forget the 1st two records, besides the main hits, the records are stacked. I was around when most of the records came out, no F**king way was Somewhere In Time close to be the top record. It was actually kinda of a let down.. The synthesizer guitars was not needed for those songs. Seventh Son is monster classic and the use of synthesizers is amazing.
@@Brian-qg8dg I actually like Somewhere in Time much better than Seventh Son, although the latter is very good. Powerslave is still a masterpiece though.
@@Brian-qg8dg @Brian If we going song by song, it's not all top 10 Maiden material,I would agree with you. But when taken as a whole, yes,I genuinely believe this album is the best one. Powerslave has the instrumental that I am not crazy about and Seventh Son title track goes for way too long for no good reason. Albums before had even more songs I don't particularly care for that much. And about guitar synthesisers, they fit like a glove on those songs, cause they give them the additional depth and atmosphere that differentiates them from similar songs before. It works to the benefit of the songs.
Somewhere in Time is definitely my favorite album. The synths, although are not prominent, add a very cool 80s vibe to the whole album. The excessive use of delays, reverbs and chorus also makes this album so damn 80s. All the songs are awesome. If I had to choose, I would choose Wasted Years as best song and Sea of Madness as best guitar solo.
This is my favourite Maiden album. All songs are great! The synths mixed very well with the heavy sound. Just one note: Heaven can Wait was another song largely played on concerts in the 90s; not only Wasted years.
It's strange that after seventh son, they totally stripped down the complexity of both the music and the lyrics. I'm just glad that they found that progressive sound again with X factor and even more so brave new world
Sea Of Madness is the best song on the album to me...That driving riff is sick. And the key change as it goes back into the verse...Great melodic solo too.
It astounds me that there are some people who don't like "Somewhere In Time", it's the album that got me into Iron Maiden, you never forget your first! The playing and vocals are on point, and "Alexander The Great" is an epic riff-filled history lesson.
it’s a shame more SIT songs aren’t played live. I always felt that with 3 guitars, at least one could compensate for the synths. And YES for the SIT album cover video !!!
Iron Maiden almost never intelligently use the three guitars in a live setting… it sounds muddy. They are usually just dumping on another layer of the same riffy guitar part rather than using a different chord voicing, playing an appropriate harmony or a line, etc… The Powerslave era sound is so much cleaner and tougher, 2 guitars. This band is good but they could actually use some direction!
@@j_freed agreed - they could play so many more harmonies live. Dave and Adrian’s playing is just made for each other, I always thought that Janick was best in a single guitar band.
@@S113Productions they opened with Caught Somewhere in time when I saw them at Long Beach arena in 87. Bruise had a leather jacket that had lights on it.
Dear god finally someone talking about this underrated album. Deja Vu and The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner are some of my favorite Maiden tracks of all time, they went full melodic power metal on those tracks, the guitar harmonies are out of control
Underrated? I've read/seen hundreds of articles/video/pages dealing with maiden discography...and this is almost always placed in top positions, usually in the podium. Anyways... "The Loneliness" is my favourite Maiden song of all times 😍😍 I'm getting goosebumps now, just humming the riff.
@@bengoshi4 I just mean...hell let me put this way: when you say Iron Maiden people will think Number of the Beast, The Trooper, Run to the Hills, 2 Minutes to Midnight, Fear of The Dark etc those are the most apparent in the general public's mind
Somewhere in Time is in fact my favorite Maiden album. I can still listen to it from start to finish. I actually love the synth textures. They're not overdone and they add just the right accents for the tone/mood of the songs.
Great video..."Somewhere in Time" is probably my second favorite Maiden album after "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son". It's the first Maiden album I ever had, hence the synths never really bothered me. Even looking back after now having the entire catalogue, they don't really seem out of place to me at all. In fact, since the overall theme of the album is somewhat futuristic, the synths actually add some needed atmospheric qualities, which I think is a good thing. Regardless of what you think about the synths, though, I don't think they're really all that noticeable except for perhaps the opening chords of the title track but, even there, I think it's a good thing.
"Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" was my first Maiden album. I got free on a cassette when I bought a used cassette holder. The guy I bought it from said, "keep it, you'll enjoy it."
I love every single second on that album. A bona fide masterpiece through and through. A pretty unique album in their catalog. Love the futuristic themes and everything. If I had to pick a favorite moment, it would probably be Adrian's solo on Stranger in a Strange Land. The way it's structured and paced is just out of this world.
Stranger in a strange land has a wicked bass line intro and drums on that one are classic. Nicko did amazingly well on that album along with Bruce’s vocals. Solid album and classic.
The album that made me a metalhead. I would not be who I am if it was not for this record. My favorite Maiden album, my favorite metal album. great video!
One of THE BEST albums from Maiden. And the 2ed best concert I've EVER seen. (Pink Floyd #1) I absolutely LOVE this album. Awesome upload Brother. 🤘UP THE IRONS🤘
Somewhere In Time is the absolute best Maiden album ever made. Everything about it- the art work, how good the band look, the sound and production, the song writing, the performance, the stage show… it was perfection. Stranger in a Strange Land was the first song I ever heard from them and it’s still my favorite. Wasted Years is a classic. And the opening track- Caught Somewhere in Time is so underrated! The solos in that song are the best they’ve done and Alexander get a promotion from “the Great” to “Legendary Perfection!”
Spot on Mate...... I remember cutting up the center on the floor in San Francisco Arena show, I was behind my huge buddy and we were heading for the front. Such good times....
Somewhere In Time - My favorite Iron Maiden album, and one of my favorite albums ever made. I saw this tour twice in 1986. Hard to pick a favorite song. The Adrian songs were my favorite for a long time (Wasted Years, Sea of Madness, Stranger...) but now I have to say my favorites are the Harris epics Caught Somewhere in Time, and Alexander the Great. No keyboard player on stage in 1986, I think they played the synth sounds with pedals. Then in 1988, they had an actual keyboard player on stage when I saw the 7th Son tour, sort of hidden behind the ice wall, and it "rose up" during prominent keyboard parts. I think Bruce, seeming rather embarrassed, introduced the keyboard player as the sixth man at some point during 7th Son. I don't mind the synth stuff, although it did seem weird at first... I mean, come on, Iron Maiden? Maybe the greatest heavy metal band ever, has a keyboard player on stage? No freakin way man. :) I know they ditched the keys on stage at some point soon after that. And when Adrian left after 7th Son, I fell out of love with them for a time, but rediscovered them in 2000 when Bruce and Adrian rejoined. Saw them again in 2003 headlining with Motorhead and Dio. Man that was a great show.
I saw the Somewhere in Time Tour in April, 1987. The synths they used were guitar synths, not keyboard synths at that time. (Keyboard synths didn't arrive until Seventh Son.) I also saw that tour with Motorhead and Dio, too. (I got the chills when Dio performed "Stargazer.")
Somewhere in Time was my first album I found and purchased as a kid in middle school 88-89. I went to a local pawn shop and was browsing the cassette tapes and came across the album art which had me litterely speechless. Purchased and popped it in on my journey back to my house. I then listened to the album on repeat for the next 10 hours easily. It is and will always be my absolute favorite Iron Maiden album.
this album is probably my favorite album of all time from them number 1 for me, it hits hard & doesn't lose a beat or get boring its an adrenaline rush the entire time
This was their first non-live album I ever heard, and it remains my absolute favorite to this day! Everyone else who commented this way is right too; holds some of the best rock songs ever, Adrian's guitar work, etc. For me it's the atmosphere that does it, and it holds from the first song to the last. And of course for a bassist, Steve's stuff is phenomenal here.
i think the same, so ahead of its time no one has come with a stylistic follow up of either Somewhere in time by Iron Maiden or Promised Land by Queensryche... an other ignored masterpiece.
I've never even thought about how underrated this album is. For me it's one of the best IM album, and, maybe - the heaviest in the band's whole discography. And its electronic features made it so heavy. That's the same reason why Judas Priest's "Ram It Down", and, partly - "Defenders of the Faith" - sound so heavy - their sound was industrialized by the same way, I think.
I came upon this video because out of nowhere today, Caught Somewhere in Time came to me and was in my head. So I had to listen to it. Then the entire album. As a Maiden fan for 4 decades this is a phenomenal album that I still listen to front to back. But back to your question, put a gun to my head. Favorite track. Caught Somewhere in Time.
My favorite Maiden album, I listen to it probably once every couple of weeks. The songs are timeless. I feel like I’m caught somewhere in a much better time every time I hear those tunes.
One of my favourite albums, along with Seventh son of a seventh son, Piece of Mind and Power Slave. I was 13, back when Somewhere in Time came out and my big brother offered it to me as a present ( vinyl version, of course, since CDs weren't a thing then). My favourite songs on Somewhere in Time are all of them.
So, I was ten years old in 1986. My uncle had given me a record player and a few records (Never Mind the Bollocks, Beatles Blue and Red Collections and Best of Roxy Music). I added to this my first ever music purchase - True Blue by Madonna... Then, one day Dad came home from work and said, 'Do you want this? Someone at work gave me it'. It was the Somewhere in Time poster. I'd never even heard Maiden but how could I resist that image? I would stare at it constantly, trying to imagine what the band would sound like. After four weeks of saving the little money I earned doing chores around the house I finally had enough money. The day had come! I hurried down to Woolworth's (the only record shop in my small town) and bought this life-changing album. I can still clearly remember dropping the needle into the groove and hearing Maiden for the first time. It was the beginning of a life-long obsession - and it all began with a poster! Hats off to Derek Riggs! :)
Just discovered your channel. Great video on one of my favorite Iron Maiden albums. "Wasted Years" is my favorite track on the album. The lyrics just really speak to me.
I always thought that keyboards were more prominent on "Seventh Son" then on "SIT," which only really uses keys as background texture. I've always thought the whole "No keyboards in heavy metal" thing was absolute rubbish anyways. From the very beginning, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Rainbow, UFO, and Blue Oyster Cult, among other early metal and heavy rock bands, all used them pretty prominently. Even Black Sabbath would experiment with keys by the time they got to "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath," with Yes's Rick Wakeman contributing keyboards to the album.
Not to mention how prominent they were with Dio, and it worked well with that band. I guess with IM's case it's just it wasn't part of their history, so they didn't want too big a change. I agree with that. It's not like they used them from the beginning. I felt it worked well with the 6th and 7th albums, however. Wouldn't change a thing.
I saw them on the very first concert of that tour. Unforgettable experience to this day. I love the title track and absolutely love Adrian's guitar solos on that album.
That's cool! So you are one of the only people to have seen The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner and Sea of Madness live. I'm incredibly jealous!
Somewhere In Time was my very first concert March 9 1987 Madison WI. I was 13 years old and still remember laughing at first when I felt my clothing vibrate on my body as I stood there. Very loud and very awesome!! I saw them again in 2008 which was their Somewhere Back In Time tour. Great channel keep it up and God Bless Ukraine.
Somewhere in Time is a great album, and it's probably my favorite cover artwork, the futuristic cyborg Eddie. It's just that, it came after Powerslave and before Seventh Son, so it's a tad overlooked unfortunately.
Trying to answer the question “which track is my favorite on the SOMEWHERE IN TIME ALBUM?”, I feel like I’m CAUGHT SOMEWHERE IN TIME, just mulling over WASTED YEARS in a never ending SEA OF MADNESS trying to choose. But HEAVAN CAN WAIT while I decide, it’s tuff trying to make that decision all the songs are incredible. I feel THE LONELINESS OF THE LONG DISTANCE RUNNER. Trying to pick, I feel like A STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND, the songs are great new and old favorites at the same time, almost like DEJA VU. Then I make my decision and it’s the Commander of the Companion Calvary, my favorite track is ALEXANDER THE GREAT!
I always think that heaven can wait was recorded too soon. If they had saved that song and put it somewhere in between the songs in seventh son of a seventh son, that would have become the most perfect album of all time. Heaven can wait is just crying out to be part of seventh son of a seventh son.
in short, the album is great but Alexander,Wasted years and stranger in a strange land is my top 3 from this album. And that album artwork, that is superb, the more you look at it the more new things you find in it
Seventh Son is so many people's favorite (old school) Maiden albums but I was always split between Power Slave and Somewhere in Time. I absolutely think they went over the top on the earlier two which enabled them to write an epic Rock Opera like Seventh Son - necessary growing pains of sorts. But I am still to this day split between the first two of that trifecta of Maiden.
I have tickets to see Maiden in October in my hometown of Hamilton, ON. These videos are getting me pumped. It's nice to have something to look forward to, for sure.
Somewhere In Time is my favourite Iron Maiden album. I was introduced to them when I was a kid by my big sister, she made me a copy of her tape and i photocopied the cover and cut it out and stuck it in my cassette case. I was about 8. I LOVE *EVERY* track on this album, their only album where I love every single track, and once I start it I have to let it play till the whole thing is over. For the longest time, Caught Somewhere In Time was my favourite song, but these days Alexander The Great is the one that does it for me the most. Rock on \m/
Great video and yes we would love a whole video dedicated to that amazing artwork! Favorite track is Caught Somewhere in Time followed closely by The Loneliness of a long distance runner. UP THE IRONS! 🤘
My first Iron Maiden album, and still my favorite. The album art alone; I remember one night in high school, just stayed up all night drawing it in pencil. Good times.
I'm so proud that I was in the audience and had the chance to be one of 8000 people who had the honor to be the only persons on globe to see and hear The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner live, which they never performed live ever since. Yeah, the only time they performed it was on the opening concert of their Somewhere on Tour in Belgrade in 1986. Maybe that's the reason it is still my favorite song on the album. Such an underestimated song with one of the greatest dueling guitar solos. Just love it! Amazing album, though.
I really love this album, it’s definitely one of my top 3 favorite Maiden albums! My favorite song from this album is Alexander the Great, and I really wish they would play it on tour 😅
Glad you made this video! This is often a question I posed to myself, as the album is imo one of their best. I think the main "issue" was simply timing. A lot came out in '86. Master of Puppets and Reign in Blood redefined metal. Maiden was going in fresh off a ridiculously long tour and the writing/recording process sounded a bit chaotic. They released a really decent album with SIT that held up strongly against their other work. I just feel that, by comparison to what was going on at the time, the early excitement of the NWOBHM sound was done. Great album though. Wasted Years has to be my pick, but buy and listen to the whole album. The album cover itself is a treasure trove of cool trivia and insights too!
My first Maiden approach and discover! First time I heard and hooked me forever: wasted years!!!!! My life changed in that moment! I was 9 years old and I beg my mum to buy me the lp! She never did! A friend of mine had an recorded tape and he made a copy for me!!!!! Awesome album!!!! All killer songs!!!! No filler!!!! A very and truly special lp for me!!!! Adrian Smith is God! My all time favorite member!!!! When he left the band, insist interest in the band!!!! Synths or not… what a great album!!!!
@MAIN agreed 100%. If only Steve and Bruce had taken the slower approach to writing on NPFTD as they had all originally planned, then Adrian wouldn’t have got p*ssed off and left. People sh*t on Blaze Bayley for his singing but Gers did far more damage to Maiden’s sound in my opinion. He CAN play and if he played structured solos instead of trying to fretboard w@nk then he’d be far better sounding. Out of all the guitarists out there, it beggars belief that they brought him in though.
This is honestly my favorite album I think, and having some of the most underrated songs from this track like Alexander The Great to Sea Of Madness to the most (arguably) popular song Wasted Years. This record age well like a fine wine

It just feels “Woody” to me, an in tune with nature, walking the forrest feel but not on Earth specifically
That interlude is something special
I love playing it o guitar. So Well crafted
That melodic middle section, I was just thinking about it this morning, it’s almost the only time on record that Bruce vocalizes in this beautiful clear falsetto. So appropriate here.
That sing-along-chorus on "Heaven Can Wait" (whoa-oh-OH! whoa-oh-oh-oh-OOOHHH-oh-oh-whoa-oh-OH!) is legendary.
I saw them do it live with the Roadies doing the chores !
'The Lonliness of the Long Distance Runner', why it is not considered their greatest song is beyond me. So unappreciated, yet so amazingly dynamic.
Alexander the Great. My favorite!
Multiple chord arrangements. The leads were phenomenal! All band members showed off their talents. The atmosphere the song created!
I like every song. But this was my overall favorite!
Front to back one of the greatest metal records ever made. In the history of the world. Ever. 🤘🏻
The greatest in my opinion
totally epic album
It show how power metal should be done.
Their masterpiece!!!! All killer no filler!
100%!
@Lucien Swift .... i agree with you. These two songs let this album down slightly.A bit repetitive lyric wise.
No filler on ANY of their 80's albums
@Lucien Swift songs you like less aren’t filler tracks. That’s not what a filler track is. It’s quite literally what the name means, the band filling a slot with something they’re not interested in creating but they’re trying to reach a certain length for the album
you're joking, surely? It's almost as bad as their recent efforts.
Caught Somewhere in Time, The loneliness of the long distance Runner and Alexander the Great are Masterpieces, and the rest of the album is great too...
Agreed 🤘🤘
I agree, but I’d say that Wasted Years, Heaven Can Wait, and Caught Somewhere in Time are the real masterpieces.
Caught somewhere in time is a true masterpiece. Deja vu is another classic. I wish they'd played those songs live.
@@GABRIELA-ACEVEDO. Hey! Someone else who likes Deja Vu! I can understand why people always make fun of it, but I think it’s an excellent song. The lyrics are pretty stupid though.
@@waltysalamander Deja Vu is both amazing and hammy, it's amazingly hammy.
The loneliness of the long distance runner is my favorite. Love how it jumps into the verse
And now?
Me too!!🤘🏻🤘🏻
😁 Back in the day I actually bought that album, cause it looked so fuckin awesome!
I always think it’s quite a sad song, but it’s my favourite too
@@sarahmanktelow9015 There is a tone of melancholy, yes. I like that. I prefer it over happy endings in music and film.
In my opinion this is THE best Maiden album. It has progressive structures, but it never fails to be catchy and powerful. It's the great combination of Powerslave and Seventh Son styles and it has the strengths of both without having weaknesses they have.
My favourite is probably Caught Somewhere In Time, probably the best Iron Maiden opening tracks out there
And those solos!! Absolutely mind blowing
Totally agree… im listening once a week this album…. And those two solos on title song omfg….. BEST solos on whole maiden line up
@@Brian-qg8dg @Brian If we going song by song, it's not all top 10 Maiden material,I would agree with you.
This is one of their best albums ever. Adrian's progressive leanings is a major influence on this record!
SSOASS is even more proggy.
It's strange that after seventh son, they totally stripped down the complexity of both the music and the lyrics. I'm just glad that they found that progressive sound again with X factor and even more so brave new world
Love Adrian’s work on this album. His solos are so soulful
Totally agree! I'm assuming that Adrian is doing the solo on the new album track "The Writing on the Wall." Great solo on the new record!
His solo on Caught Somewhere in Time was epic; it looked like a religious for him!
Definitely my favorite by them. The synths create such a cool futuristic atmosphere
Yep like Larry Niven worlds
Sea Of Madness is the best song on the album to me...That driving riff is sick. And the key change as it goes back into the verse...Great melodic solo too.
And that ending with Bruce's vocal. Like he drowns in the sea!
@@randinboise Good observation.
Agreed!
Easily one of my favorite Maiden albums. It's perfect and I wish they didn't mostly ignore it live. This and Seventh Son are my favorites.
It’s my favorite Maiden album, so it really sucks that they ignore it.
It astounds me that there are some people who don't like "Somewhere In Time", it's the album that got me into Iron Maiden, you never forget your first! The playing and vocals are on point, and "Alexander The Great" is an epic riff-filled history lesson.
Agreed. And the riff filled history lesson continues with Sabaton.
it’s a shame more SIT songs aren’t played live. I always felt that with 3 guitars, at least one could compensate for the synths.
And YES for the SIT album cover video !!!
Weren't they guitar synths?
Iron Maiden almost never intelligently use the three guitars in a live setting… it sounds muddy. They are usually just dumping on another layer of the same riffy guitar part rather than using a different chord voicing, playing an appropriate harmony or a line, etc… The Powerslave era sound is so much cleaner and tougher, 2 guitars.
This band is good but they could actually use some direction!
@@j_freed agreed - they could play so many more harmonies live. Dave and Adrian’s playing is just made for each other, I always thought that Janick was best in a single guitar band.
Wish we could hear Caught Somewhere in Time live again, they haven’t played it live since the 80s.
Anyways... "The Loneliness" is my favourite Maiden song of all times 😍😍
I'm getting goosebumps now, just humming the riff.
@@bengoshi4 I just mean...hell let me put this way: when you say Iron Maiden people will think Number of the Beast, The Trooper, Run to the Hills, 2 Minutes to Midnight, Fear of The Dark etc those are the most apparent in the general public's mind
@@chiyo-chanholocaust8143 I know I know... Stupid general public!!! 😂😂
Somewhere in Time is in fact my favorite Maiden album. I can still listen to it from start to finish. I actually love the synth textures. They're not overdone and they add just the right accents for the tone/mood of the songs.
Same dude
Easily the best Iron Maiden album. Combines futuristic sound with classic heavy metal. Very unique to this day.
I was 15 when that álbum born, very futuristic and powerful
Yeah , the "futuristic" side of things was awesome , and it was actually a common theme on the 80's , specially movies ...
Try the band Star One, it fits the description, altho a bit more proggy.
I don't know if it's easily the best...it's in my top 4, it's always powerslave for me but SIT is a gem among gems
I'm guessing your a 1973-75 Model? 😉
If only I was still in my 40s...I'm a classic 1971 model.
It's my fav Maiden album, by far. It has that SF/cyber vibe to it, it's just full of atmosphere.
It’s one of maidens best sounds in my opinion
This was and still is one of my favorite albums!
Deja Vu is a brilliant song! The whole album is amazing
Stranger in a strange land has a wicked bass line intro and drums on that one are classic. Nicko did amazingly well on that album along with Bruce’s vocals. Solid album and classic.
It's my favorite Maiden album. And that's just the talking about the music. The album art is the best too. So much going on.
The album that made me a metalhead. I would not be who I am if it was not for this record. My favorite Maiden album, my favorite metal album. great video!
Somewhere in Time was my introduction to Maiden way back when I was 13. It totally blew my mind. To this day, it's still my favorite Maiden album.
One of THE BEST albums from Maiden.
And the 2ed best concert I've EVER seen. (Pink Floyd #1)
I absolutely LOVE this album.
Awesome upload Brother.

Yes!! 😉 They should just remix it as a metal album and lose all the unnecessary reverb and EQ that makes it sound wimpy.
@@j_freed
Wimpy...... ? Not in my opinion, definitely processed but absolutely not wimpy.
🤘UP THE IRONS🤘
I have long said that this album is SO criminally underrated!
I agree, this is one of the best albums.
This is in my top 5 albums of all time and genres. I am spellbound every time I play it. Even my elderly mother in law enjoyed Alexander the Great.
(Keyboard synths didn't arrive until Seventh Son.)
I also saw that tour with Motorhead and Dio, too. (I got the chills when Dio performed "Stargazer.")
You're lucky you got to see them back then I wasn't around yet. What a great to be alive! (So I hear!)
Adrian played the synthetic modified Jackson.. Dave didn't
@@wahwahgaboor yes that's correct! 🤟😎
Caught Somewhere in Time & Seventh Son of a Seventh Son are my favorite Iron Maiden albums.
The album is called Somewhere In Time.
Stranger in a Strange Land has the best Adrian Smith solo.
I'll take Somewhere in Time over any of their albums released over the last 30 years or so ANYTIME!
That new album blows
SIT is the best heavy metal record ever made and the only drawback is that its so ahead of its time that theres no conscience of this fact yet
i think the same, so ahead of its time no one has come with a stylistic follow up of either Somewhere in time by Iron Maiden or Promised Land by Queensryche... an other ignored masterpiece.
This is such a strange comment by Hegel. Best album ever?!? Really? How can that be? I was so disappointed back then.
@@gulliverthegullible6667 this album marks a progression in our consciousness of freedom😁
Wasn't Eddie playing some mad organ on the cover of 'Infinite Dreams'?
Bands like Ministry use keyboards and synthesizers and they are miles heavier than Iron Maiden.
There aren’t keyboards on SIT, they’re guitar and bass synthesizers
@@gabrielbrouwer The synth on Somewhere in time is not that prominent. I do think it's a great album myself actually.

Then I make my decision and it’s the Commander of the Companion Calvary, my favorite track is ALEXANDER THE GREAT!
what a madlad. You even got the songs in the right order. My fav is Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner by the way
I always think that heaven can wait was recorded too soon.
And that album artwork, that is superb, the more you look at it the more new things you find in it
My most cherished Maiden album, it’s the album that not only got me into IM, but into music in general as well as into drumming.
Definitely would like an episode on the artwork!
Wasted years is my favorite from this album.

Somewhere in Time is a KILLER album. Amazing songs.and epic themes. It takes me somewhere else, whenever i hear it.
Every song has a time theme in a way, not surprising after the exhausting World Slavery Tour. And the sound of the album is ineffably sophisticated.
"The Loneliness of the long distance runner" is my favorite song from "Somewhere in time"
Somewhere In Time is my favourite Iron Maiden album.

I would love to see a special episode on the album’s artwork!
This is the album I discovered Iron Maiden with. Love the artwork too and would welcome a special on the cover painting!
There is no way that Janick Gers could have made Somewhere In Time - the musicianship on that album is phenomenal.
@Metal Fan I’ve often thought that. They would have been the only band to have had a run of perfect albums.
This is one of their best selling albums, and they still play Wasted Years regularly live. Alexander The Great is one of the best metal songs ever.
This is honestly my favorite album I think, and having some of the most underrated songs from this track like Alexander The Great to Sea Of Madness to the most (arguably) popular song Wasted Years. This record age well like a fine wine
It’s kind of sad honestly that it’s never been played live
My fav IM album! Been a fan since 84'. Just recently saw a South American news program dedicating tribute to the anniversary of this milestone. So it means alot to many people around the world.
An awesome album. The first time I saw Maiden was ‘Somewhere on Tour’ Hammersmith Odeon, Nov 1986.
