A rivalry between the two. Madonna is known for manipulating the media to get what she wants. She was promoting her album and everyone kept asking about Born This Way all the time and she used it. She praised Gaga on many occasions, even in the "reductive" interview but for the media and even for fans who love a female rivalry, it was not interesting to resonate. Gaga used the same strategy to promote her documentary, talking about Madonna even though they had reconciled two years earlier. You need to relax. They are on good terms with each other while you fight over issues already resolved.
I think Madonna genuinely has no issue with Gaga and thinks she's a talent but likes to play up to the media on the rivalry in a tongue and cheek way. Madonna respects strong authentic artists.

Same thing with Gaga since she came out with Just Dance. I've fallen for Gaga and her demeanor. It's rare you see an artist actually only say good things about people. Not wanting to start shit with others. And for Madonna to be in the industry forever and to be so cruel makes me lose about all respect for her.

She praised Gaga on many occasions, even in the "reductive" interview but for the media and even for fans who love a female rivalry, it was not interesting to resonate. Gaga used the same strategy to promote her documentary, talking about Madonna even though they had reconciled two years earlier. You need to relax. They are on good terms with each other while you fight over issues already resolved.

Bottom line is, Madonna was a legend and always will be, and so is Gaga. They are both known for their antics and making a bold statement. In my opinion, Madonna has turned into the mother hen who hates all the women climbing the ladder. Her "sexiness" was her identity and for some stupid reason she now makes a fool of herself by showing her disgust towards others who are successful, again proving her anger at the loss of admiration and attention. Her public statements and songs have turned ludicrous. She's not handling the success of others very well and is very moody and spiteful sounding. Her interviews seem as if she wants the right to still have that attitude, but she should probably figure out a way to collaborate with these artists instead of being such a baby.
Look at the carpool karaoke (Late Late Show) and the difference in how they both conducted themselves. Gaga smoked Madonna in views. Madonna is played out worldwide but not necessarily as much in UK as USA. Either way, Gaga has a long way to go before she's done. Some little monsters are so damn childish. Gaga is definitely an icon, but she's not the Queen of Pop. That title has already been EARNED by Madonna for her hard work. She may be a bitch, and she may not be as talented as Gaga but she has worked her ass off and been very intelligent about her career. However, Madonna does need to recognize that although Gaga may not be all that original, neither was she. And Lady Gaga has already proven she has twice the everlasting talent than Madonna ever had.
While it is true that title is already earned, it can be lost. In all honesty, it's time for Madonna to pass it on. She's just...not THAT hot aymore. Also, on the matter of hard work, Madonna isn't the only one. Gaga also works extremely hard and I haven't seen many who constantly go album-tour-album tour-album-tour in a mere 5 years. Gaga even broke her hips because of her work-addiction.

Actually, as a Madonna fan, I liked Gaga for a hot minute but then I saw how vile her fans were to Madonna, they seemed hell bent on tearing her down in order to prop Gaga up. I’ve literally seen comments that said that she caused AIDS, was an old hag, can’t sing, that Madonna copies her (umm... she’s a time traveler? Okay...)... blah blah. It got fucking ridiculous. GenXer’s like me have lives and couldn’t care less about whatever pop tart is in the spotlight at the moment, but when we saw all these immature, vile and hateful comments, and saw Gaga seemingly ignoring them even though she claimed she had an anti-bullying platform, I was like... next. And sorry, but yes, Gaga has copied Madonna on almost every stage of her career. But that’s almost not her fault because Madonna has been in the industry for almost 40 years and has done virtually everything, so how could any female artist not be ‘influenced’ by Madonna. Honestly, at this point, I think if Gaga fans grew up a little, and realized they could praise someone without insulting someone else, I’d have a little more respect for her. But while Madonna can be shady and hard at times, which comes from her growing up in the 70s and 80s in New York, I find Gaga to be a bit self important. You like Gaga? Good for you.
