I love these sort of games when they actually show resources and you can see them stockpiled. There is some great satisfaction from seeing a storage area full to the bring of resources...i used to like Caesar games when all your pots started to fill up
Or seeing extra caravans and such. In the old Total War games, the more trade coming through a city would fill roads with caavans and the sea with trade routes with ships. The newer games just have boring lines that you can hover over for details
I like them too there vary satisfying. just so you know in the future its not to the bring the expression is full to the brim as in the brim of a bath tub, coffee cup, pool, net, basket and so on.
the graphics programmers for this seem to be great at that, all the graphics are like that, changing in all sorts of ways based on the state of the machine. colonists play basketball, bots actually grab the charger with their hands to recharge, solar panels aim at the sun, farms show different crops based on what is selected and how far along they've grown, etc.etc. the large storage areas actually move 5 blocks of resource at a time with a crane, and stack them logically row by row.
I absolutely LOVE these videos! They are so thorough and I LOVE how you go into detail explaining it step by step. I wish Paradox could've done that on their streams seeing that this is a new game with a new learning curve. Keep it up! CAN'T WAIT for the next episode :-D
Thank you so much for your walk throughs! I just started playing this last night on Xbox and it looks really cool. I started with the tutorial and I'm still confused. Thanks to your thorough explanations, I get it now. Thank you!
I have to hand it to you Quill18. I have looked at a few other "Surviving Mars" TH-cam Vids and have to say.... yours are the best and most comprehensive for beginners like me. Your vids are engaging and use the EXACT correct amount of cadence to keep things moving forward for a quick understanding of how to be successful in what is a very complex game with a steep learning curve. Your vids, for me at least, are lessening that learning curve dramatically. Kudos and please keep the Surviving Mars vids coming. GREAT STUFF my friend!!!!
You've done it again Quill. I was on the fence about this game but with these vids I'm definitely pre-ordering. Paradox should pay you. I need the next Surviving Mars video in my life!
Thanks so much for these tutorials. I find them very very VERY helpful and useful! :) You go through the details very clearly and slowly which just makes it even more helpful. :)
Thanks Quill, even in your other Vids you always do a good job of explaining what's going on. I will say this VIDs explaining feels a bit simplified, but your definitely clear and direct
You are like an encyclopedia to this game. How did you learn so much details about this game? Appreciate all the tips you are giving for new beginners! 5/5! I feel like i should send you money, lol
Overly simplified tutorial if you ask me. I understood everything pretty straight forward, but I understand why. When people are actually having problems, literally speaking out every word helps them understand. Especially for non-english speakers which Paradox games usually get a lot of.
Great videos. I am reminded of the Robot Chicken skit of the Santa's Elves training video. Because of all the "let's talk about" parts of your wonderful video. Gave me a chuckle expecting lizard men from the center of Mars to show up and eat the colonists lol.
Quill: I never comment the videos, just hit like when i remember... but hey... GREAT JOB QUILL!!! I was having doubts on this game and you sold it with this tutorial, Keep up the good work! Regards!
You shouldn't run cables all over the place. Only run cables ad pipes where you need them. The break more often if you run them all over. You ca save lots of metal if you always use short cables. Lots of people have confirmed this.
Susie and Nicki over at ParadoxExtra were great fun to watch, but this is a much better series to learn how the game actually work, lol. I'm so stoked for release, love this kind of game
I just bought this game on Xbox and the full game plus bonuses was cheaper than the base game itself. Looking forward to screwing around with my first sim strategy game.
Hey, very nice series, much appreciated ! I have some questions, regarding how exactly does the ~"All extractors contaminate nearby buildings with dust"~ concept works specifically for the Concrete Extractor : - Dust is generated around the pit from where the concrete is extracted, or is generated around the building itself ? ( and how far does it extend?) - Two Concrete extractors placed right next to each-other, get twice as contaminated with dust, or are they immune to dust ? Bonus question : What are the things that are not affected by contamination with dust ? (by things i mean not just buildings, but anything that is next to an Extractor. Ex: cables, batteries, rovers, drones, resources etc)
Goddamn I am so ready for this game to be out already!!! 9 days is too long to wait! And Damn 11 bit studios to Hell for not announcing when FrostPunk is going to be released!
I really like the sense of scale in this game!.. Makes the planet feel vast and big. I am surprised however how BIG the small dome. Jesus!, if that's a small dome! .
I'm very much into retro gaming and suck at modern games, I guess I'd call myself a casual gamer then ;) . I enjoy those videos very much and already decided I'll buy the game soon. It looks like there's finally a modern game that I may enjoy investing time in (and yes I know the game becomes unforgiving).
Thanks for the tutorials. I've watched a bunch of Surviving Mars vids and I have noticed that nobody has ever built a power switch. Could you demo that in your next video?
You can mix air and water in the same pipe system? oh boy! That will make everything so much simpler. I kept making a damn mess of my pipes because I thought I need to run them separately!
Love the videos. Thank you for all the excellent content. I can't believe the guys down below. You get to shit on Quill when you also create 1000's of hours of content for multiple games on their highest difficulty setting.
Pay no attention to the Nay sayers, yes the tone is a little off putting, but the attention to detail is appreciated and in some cases needed. Thank you for this video series.
Quill, you are by far my favorite TH-camr. I LOVE watching your videos because of the knowledge you bring to the table of any game you play. You always seem to know what you are doing and I learn a great deal just by watching you play. However this series is mind numbingly slow and I am forced to watch other TH-camrs who play at the same pace, not because they are making a Tutorial but because they are morons and have no Idea what they are doing. I feel you could make a comprehensive tutorial playing at your normal pace and the content provided would still be the best on TH-cam.
since its sponsored i wouldnt be surprised if paradox wants quill to make a tutorial for people who are completely new to the genre. due to that people who have some knowledge feel like a kindergartner
In the streams it looks like if you neglect or forget about an aspect of te colony things can really spiral out of control. On top of this is the environmental chalenges such as meteors, cold waves, dust storms etc. These can stress your system or just down right break it!
Think much will depend on your starting choices. Pick a dangerous landing spot to deal with nature. So events challenge. The complexity challenge is probably constant, what you're seeing. Which seems pretty low if Stirling generators show anything, magic power producers (no inputs needed).
You mentioned that 3 concrete groups is rare and then you showed your 1000 low grade and said that 600 high grade is a lot, so I looked at my 3 I landed next to (different landing spot) and I have 900 average and then the other two are 2500 and 3300 high grade💀💀
This vid contained the first time I have seen 3 concrete groups within the range of the first rocket. And I've watched a lot of Surviving Mars videos in the past 3 years. I would say you got lucky.
I did not only watch this video, also the official ones since gamescom2017 and paradox twitch streams. Still, I fear that after the first few adjustments and producing the basic mats, there is no challenge mid- and lategame. Can't know it, as I've obviously never played it, just my caveats. ;)
Yeah, it's a common theme these days, as the eggheads in charge, want to maximize sales. Difficult games scare people away, for the most part. I definitely hope it offers some challenge. There can be fun in failing and failing until you succeed as in say They are billions. Man do people cry about the difficult in that game.
Pravus has a video series out where he plays at 1075%. It was unpleasant to watch him pull his hair out. It contained dust tornados, dust storms, and a 6 sol cold spell before I stopped watching them. He was allowed one, count them, one passenger rocket with 12 unspecialized people and very little money. His birthrate was about one child per generation. The series was 13 vids long but I stopped after 6 where he still only had his original build and very little more.
So after making all these things a meteor crashes on your base destroying everything, then you have to start from the beginning. Nooooooooooo. This game is like forge of empires on 100 different steroids. Thank you for your post, your videos are much better than this other guy who is very odd.
looks like nothing was hapening for me because my original landing site was not near metal deposits......went with easy mode but tutorial didn't need to explain this very well...p
Some of us NEED the extras you don't want. If he catered to you and all the other whiz-bangs I would be still lost and suspect I would not be the only one.

I can definitely see myself playing this in the evening... until I notice that it’s actually 4:30am and I’ve been up playing it all night.
MidgardEagle oh ya, 100%. I’ve done that more times than I can remember.
It's when you're playing, go make a coffee and notice you have an hour before you need to get ready for work, and a 12 hour shift to enjoy

Accurate
Exactly what happen when I downloaded the game
Seriously the best beginners guide. You are so in depth with this. Super great... wonderful game also... So yeah thank you for this.
SUPER GREAT beginners video. EASY to understand. Truly a pleasure to watch AND learn from. Thanks again quill18. You're the best at everything you do.
I absolutely LOVE these videos! They are so thorough and I LOVE how you go into detail explaining it step by step. I wish Paradox could've done that on their streams seeing that this is a new game with a new learning curve. Keep it up! CAN'T WAIT for the next episode :-D
Yep. But it isn't hard to study the menu yourself. I mean it's right there hahah.
Thank you so much for your walk throughs! I just started playing this last night on Xbox and it looks really cool. I started with the tutorial and I'm still confused. Thanks to your thorough explanations, I get it now. Thank you!
Love the official looking Paradox logo. Thank you Paradox for paying Quill to make this video series

You've done it again Quill. I was on the fence about this game but with these vids I'm definitely pre-ordering. Paradox should pay you. I need the next Surviving Mars video in my life!
Shayne Tracey paradox is paying him for these videos
Horrors Of War - Cool, he deserves it. These videos finally convinced me to purchase the preorder for this yesterday.
Thanks so much for these tutorials. I find them very very VERY helpful and useful! :)
You go through the details very clearly and slowly which just makes it even more helpful. :)
Only watched 2 of these videos so far and they are 100% better and more informing then the paradox videos. Should pay you.
They do pay him literally says it in the title
I bought the game but didn’t play it much because I didn’t know what to do. Thanks to your videos I’m going to pick it up again!
Always great listening to your tutorials and let's plays. I started with Civ 6 when it first came out.
Thanks Quill, even in your other Vids you always do a good job of explaining what's going on. I will say this VIDs explaining feels a bit simplified, but your definitely clear and direct
Just starting playing this - thanks for the detail as I'm new to this type of gaming.
You are like an encyclopedia to this game. How did you learn so much details about this game? Appreciate all the tips you are giving for new beginners! 5/5! I feel like i should send you money, lol

Wait what? I wasn't subscibed??? Ohh... Here you go, subscribed! Thank you so much for such amazing guide!

Very good tutorials man, i was so lost when i first started to play, now i understand better the mechanics of the game. Like and subscribe :)
Amazing video and the game looks cool
These videos are getting me so pumped to play! (Starts scratching arms) When’s the next video coming out Quill?
John Nukem stop being a furry pls

Great videos. I am reminded of the Robot Chicken skit of the Santa's Elves training video. Because of all the "let's talk about" parts of your wonderful video. Gave me a chuckle expecting lizard men from the center of Mars to show up and eat the colonists lol.
These videos are excellent m8
Almost deleted the game until i came across this series. Very in depth
Really, really like this series. Can't wait till i can play this game myself.
I was wanting to make guide videos on this game but damn man you are killing it.
😂
Love your style and narrative!
Epic info too, thanks.
Quill: I never comment the videos, just hit like when i remember... but hey... GREAT JOB QUILL!!! I was having doubts on this game and you sold it with this tutorial, Keep up the good work! Regards!
"I never comment the videos"? Your a liar because you just commented on this video.

I watch few "hiw to play" but by far this is the best one. Give it a like Thanks
Loving these videos and getting ever more hyped to actually play myself :D
Awesome beginner guide!
I couldnt figure out cables, thank you so much for this.
Wow the ui was so much different. It seems cleaner than the way the new ui is I wish it was still like this.
Susie and Nicki over at ParadoxExtra were great fun to watch, but this is a much better series to learn how the game actually work, lol.

I have some questions, regarding how exactly does the

Dust gets everywhere except the rockets and inside the domes. How much everything is "affected" idk.
Goddamn I am so ready for this game to be out already!!! 9 days is too long to wait!

I really like the sense of scale in this game!.. Makes the planet feel vast and big.
I am surprised however how BIG the small dome. Jesus!, if that's a small dome! .
Later they add a smaller one. It's a triangle with space for a max of 3 buildings.
Excellent!
looking at the storage depots, im pretty sure there were some stronghold fans at the developers office. and i freakin LOVE it.
Your food stock are dwindling my lord

Wow this looks like that old Space colony game.
Thanks for the tutorials. I've watched a bunch of Surviving Mars vids and I have noticed that nobody has ever built a power switch. Could you demo that in your next video?
28:02 IKEA Stirling Generators LOL!
Yeah almost expect the little drone building it to stop half way through throw his hands in the air and go take a smoke break.
I want this game so much!!!
This game looks like banished in space
That moment you learn that oxygen and water don't need separate pipe networks.
Very helpful thanks :) also off topic I feel
Like your a super nice person in real life haha
You can mix air and water in the same pipe system? oh boy! That will make everything so much simpler. I kept making a damn mess of my pipes because I thought I need to run them separately!
In one of the tutorials I have seen for this game I learned (as an Oh, BTW) the pipes we lay down contain conduits for each fluid needing transferred.
Great video.
Which edition of Surviving Mars did Quill get?
i have a place for every thing and every thing has a place
Thank you!!
Love the videos. Thank you for all the excellent content. I can't believe the guys down below. You get to shit on Quill when you also create 1000's of hours of content for multiple games on their highest difficulty setting.

Nice tutorial. Can I move the buildings to other spot or need to salvage and build new one?
It was getting good! “See you next time folks!” :(
Smart idea to have a youtuber do your beginners guide.
Pay no attention to the Nay sayers, yes the tone is a little off putting, but the attention to detail is appreciated and in some cases needed. Thank you for this video series.
Help I’m spinning in my bed, and I’m not even in a grave yet!
This game must be just so good I am spinning in my bed!!!!
Isn't it better to have separate power grids so you have less failures points? Seems like would also waste a lot of pipe connecting everything.
There is nothing stopping you from playing the game with separate power grids. Give it a try and keep us informed.
more things, more better.
I didn’t realize this game was so fucking awesome when I bought it
Lol loving the guide man thanks so confused when i first launched this game, no straight up tutorial either they should think about adding one.
They will and it sucks.
I should not say it sucks so let's just say it was lacking.
whenever you said my bots i hear my butts and i giggled.
You know a video is sponsored when the presenter goes "oh, thats wonderful" like every minute.
shouldn't a "moisture vaporator" be called "a moisture condenser"?
sold
those Stirling generators are like poke balls
Is the version you're playing a final, ready to release version or is it like a pre release, "everything can change" version?
Since release is the 15th, it's likely past feature freeze, but still more time for bug fixes.
Yeah it's probably "almost released" stage. Ready to release, but some dusting required.
What happens when you leave Waste Rocks' lying around? Dose it decay anything that it sits next to?
It just block future buildings and also needs more space for just lie around.
More please
How you make concrete before you extract water?
They left the REAL WORLD out of the GAME ?
Funny...I thought all extractors showed the dust cloud outline when placing the building, but the concrete extractor didn't!
Love the video. Also...you sound a bit like Nardwuar
sweet baby, this is good.

Anyone do a good one?
Try Pravus his leaves out a lot of stuff that I need.
@@munawarcheema8991 Try Pravus. His may be more up your alley.
Have anyone found an efficient way to get a null sum game with water ? I always seem to have to rely on the unserground deposits ;)
Vaporaters take water out of the air on a smaller scale with a higher maintenance cost.
Anyone have an updated version of this guide? A lot of this is no longer relevant.
"More things, more better."
Is there any challenge or its just relaxing game ?
I've seen meteor showers in the Paradox streams, so there's some challenge there. Plus those mysteries might be challenging as well.

took me quite awhile to decide, but then I just pre-ordered. I've loved games like this since I first played Banished.
You have to remember that this is the very early gameplay, he's playing on the easiest modes, and he's played before. I'd go for the purchase.

Did anybody else notice that he placed the solar panel too close to the extractor?
Yes. He crowded the extractor space in more places than just the solar panel.

Yea, but what happens if you land somewhere nowhere NEAR these metal deposits... how are you going to build anything?????
