I love these sort of games when they actually show resources and you can see them stockpiled. There is some great satisfaction from seeing a storage area full to the bring of resources...i used to like Caesar games when all your pots started to fill up
Or seeing extra caravans and such. In the old Total War games, the more trade coming through a city would fill roads with caavans and the sea with trade routes with ships. The newer games just have boring lines that you can hover over for details
I like them too there vary satisfying. just so you know in the future its not to the bring the expression is full to the brim as in the brim of a bath tub, coffee cup, pool, net, basket and so on.

the graphics programmers for this seem to be great at that, all the graphics are like that, changing in all sorts of ways based on the state of the machine. colonists play basketball, bots actually grab the charger with their hands to recharge, solar panels aim at the sun, farms show different crops based on what is selected and how far along they've grown, etc.etc. the large storage areas actually move 5 blocks of resource at a time with a crane, and stack them logically row by row.
I can definitely see myself playing this in the evening... until I notice that it’s actually 4:30am and I’ve been up playing it all night.

It's when you're playing, go make a coffee and notice you have an hour before you need to get ready for work, and a 12 hour shift to enjoy

Overly simplified tutorial if you ask me. I understood everything pretty straight forward, but I understand why. When people are actually having problems, literally speaking out every word helps them understand. Especially for non-english speakers which Paradox games usually get a lot of.

I have to hand it to you Quill18. I have looked at a few other "Surviving Mars" TH-cam Vids and have to say.... yours are the best and most comprehensive for beginners like me. Your vids are engaging and use the EXACT correct amount of cadence to keep things moving forward for a quick understanding of how to be successful in what is a very complex game with a steep learning curve. Your vids, for me at least, are lessening that learning curve dramatically. Kudos and please keep the Surviving Mars vids coming. GREAT STUFF my friend!!!!

You shouldn't run cables all over the place. Only run cables ad pipes where you need them.The break more often if you run them all over. You ca save lots of metal if you always use short cables. Lots of people have confirmed this.

I just bought this game on Xbox and the full game plus bonuses was cheaper than the base game itself. Looking forward to screwing around with my first sim strategy game.

Ye, Quill has a hard time explaining simple stuff in a non-patronizing manner... He is great at explaining complicated stuff, but when it comes to this really simple stuff he just sounds like he is talking to a child. I don't know what it is, maybe because he explains to much, maybe the way he explains it, but really starts to grate on me...
He is definitely not intentionally patronising... Quill isn't patronizing, he just sounds patronizing when he explains this simple stuff... I think it is because he adds a few unnecessary remarks, like saying dust is bad when that is just plain obvious after he already explained the mechanic of dust causing more maintenance being required at the start. And the explanation of the energy buildings and their opening and closing, that could have been done in 10 seconds but he went into far to much detail and saying the most obvious things...
Yeah,it is annoying.It feel like a commercial for kids. By the way,did you know that you can hit ESC and open the menu?

I really like the sense of scale in this game!.. Makes the planet feel vast and big.
I am surprised however how BIG the small dome. Jesus!, if that's a small dome! .
Later they add a smaller one. It's a triangle with space for a max of 3 buildings.
I'm very much into retro gaming and suck at modern games, I guess I'd call myself a casual gamer then ;) . I enjoy those videos very much and already decided I'll buy the game soon. It looks like there's finally a modern game that I may enjoy investing time in (and yes I know the game becomes unforgiving).

I have some questions, regarding how exactly does the
~"All extractors contaminate nearby buildings with dust"~
concept works specifically for the Concrete Extractor :
- Dust is generated around the pit from where the concrete is extracted, or is generated around the building itself ? ( and how far does it extend?)
- Two Concrete extractors placed right next to each-other, get twice as contaminated with dust, or are they immune to dust ?
Bonus question : What are the things that are not affected by contamination with dust ? (by things i mean not just buildings, but anything that is next to an Extractor. Ex: cables, batteries, rovers, drones, resources etc)
Dust gets everywhere except the rockets and inside the domes. How much everything is "affected" idk.

You can mix air and water in the same pipe system? oh boy! That will make everything so much simpler. I kept making a damn mess of my pipes because I thought I need to run them separately!
In one of the tutorials I have seen for this game I learned (as an Oh, BTW) the pipes we lay down contain conduits for each fluid needing transferred.

Isn't it better to have separate power grids so you have less failures points? Seems like would also waste a lot of pipe connecting everything.
There is nothing stopping you from playing the game with separate power grids. Give it a try and keep us informed.

What happens when you leave Waste Rocks' lying around? Dose it decay anything that it sits next to?
It just block future buildings and also needs more space for just lie around.

You mentioned that 3 concrete groups is rare and then you showed your 1000 low grade and said that 600 high grade is a lot, so I looked at my 3 I landed next to (different landing spot) and I have 900 average and then the other two are 2500 and 3300 high grade💀💀
This vid contained the first time I have seen 3 concrete groups within the range of the first rocket. And I've watched a lot of Surviving Mars videos in the past 3 years. I would say you got lucky.

I'm really on the fence with this game. It looks nice and such, but I fear it could be too easy.
took me quite awhile to decide, but then I just pre-ordered. I've loved games like this since I first played Banished.
You have to remember that this is the very early gameplay, he's playing on the easiest modes, and he's played before. I'd go for the purchase.
I did not only watch this video, also the official ones since gamescom2017 and paradox twitch streams. Still, I fear that after the first few adjustments and producing the basic mats, there is no challenge mid- and lategame. Can't know it, as I've obviously never played it, just my caveats. ;)
Yeah, it's a common theme these days, as the eggheads in charge, want to maximize sales. Difficult games scare people away, for the most part. I definitely hope it offers some challenge. There can be fun in failing and failing until you succeed as in say They are billions. Man do people cry about the difficult in that game.
Pravus has a video series out where he plays at 1075%. It was unpleasant to watch him pull his hair out. It contained dust tornados, dust storms, and a 6 sol cold spell before I stopped watching them. He was allowed one, count them, one passenger rocket with 12 unspecialized people and very little money. His birthrate was about one child per generation. The series was 13 vids long but I stopped after 6 where he still only had his original build and very little more.

My fucking god this video is slower than a paralyzed turtle. I sped it up to 1.75 and the only reason I didn't get it up to 2x was his voice became incomprehensible. Quill, for the love of god, please, you don't have to explain everything. In the first video simply quickly going over everything (for example: This is my sponsor, he gives me my starting money, choosing different sponsors will make the game easier or harder, this one is easiest" instead of spending OVER 15 MINUTES ON THE START SCREEN would've been far preferable.
looks like nothing was hapening for me because my original landing site was not near metal deposits......went with easy mode but tutorial didn't need to explain this very well...p
Quill, you are by far my favorite TH-camr. I LOVE watching your videos because of the knowledge you bring to the table of any game you play. You always seem to know what you are doing and I learn a great deal just by watching you play.
However this series is mind numbingly slow and I am forced to watch other TH-camrs who play at the same pace, not because they are making a Tutorial but because they are morons and have no Idea what they are doing.
I feel you could make a comprehensive tutorial playing at your normal pace and the content provided would still be the best on TH-cam.
since its sponsored i wouldnt be surprised if paradox wants quill to make a tutorial for people who are completely new to the genre. due to that people who have some knowledge feel like a kindergartner

your videos are great, but i wish you would move along faster, you could easily condense each video down to 10 mins with all of the content intact.
Some of us NEED the extras you don't want. If he catered to you and all the other whiz-bangs I would be still lost and suspect I would not be the only one.

Is there any challenge or its just relaxing game ?
I've seen meteor showers in the Paradox streams, so there's some challenge there. Plus those mysteries might be challenging as well.
In the streams it looks like if you neglect or forget about an aspect of te colony things can really spiral out of control. On top of this is the environmental chalenges such as meteors, cold waves, dust storms etc. These can stress your system or just down right break it!
Think much will depend on your starting choices. Pick a dangerous landing spot to deal with nature. So events challenge. The complexity challenge is probably constant, what you're seeing. Which seems pretty low if Stirling generators show anything, magic power producers (no inputs needed).
