  • In this video learn how to knit a folded brim hat using the Addi knitting machine. This is the technique that I have found the easiest to do. It allows me to clearly see the stitches I need to pick up in order to make a near and even folded brim.
    The hat can be made to accomodate various sizes/lengths. Please note that this is knit using the King Addi knitting machine. There are also smaller Addi knitting machine on the market. This hat is knit using Caron One Pound yarn. You will need to experiment with different brands of yarn to see which works best for your machine. The knit instructions would be the same if you are using other circular knitting machines such as the Loops & Thread, Sentro, etc.
    The key is to knit in a smooth even motion while turning your handle to avoid jarring which can result in dropped knit stitches. In this video I will teach you how going step-by-step. Once you determine which size you want you will be able to knit these beautiful and easy folded brim beanie in no time at all.
    These folded brim knit beanies make great gifts and are a good project to make for charity.
    I have used my Addi King machine to knit 100's of knit hats for charity, and as gifts. If you plan on knitting a lot of hats this little Addi King machine can be a good investment.

      Good for you! Also me-I was crocheting beanies for a few different shelters and I love it-but it takes more time and more yarn than knitting. And knitted hats have move stretch so I think they fit more people. I like making an adult and child hat in coordination colors. Happy yarning!

    Thank you so much for making this video I'm sitting here telling myself there has to be a better way to make a brim on a hat and I know when actually using the hand Loom we fold the rim over and then bind it off. I'm like it could be done on the machine as well.🤔😁🙌 😇 Stay blessed.

    ok i gotta admit. you are saving me with the idea at the last row. when you are casting off. i usually go all the way around then start using a needle to pick up stitches. heaven forbid i actually pull too rough on the yarn and extra stitches jump off. im in for a doozy but just advancing the machine a little bit to pick up a few stitches at a time. and keeping the rest securely on... seriously!? why didnt i think of that.! thanks so much! you have fantastic ideas. your rock!!

    Finally! I knew you could have an easy pattern for this! Thank you! I bought a jamit knitting machine. To make hats for charity as well. Most patterns are for a double layer beanie. I was going to send my machine back until I saw your tutorial. I did 18 rows for the brim. 21 rows for the body of that hat.. seemed too slouchy, I might try 15 rows. I wish this was like crochet.. frog rows until you can get the length.

    I have a sentro, both addis and a generic . I cannot figure out how to take the stitches off when i am done. But i have knitted long enough that i know how stitches work so i just put the yarn to the inside, turn it until it comes off the machine and then thread my needle and pick up the stitches with it in my lap. Its easier for me that way, if any of them pull out, i pick them up with a crochet hook and thread the yarn through. It works fine for me that way.

    The first ever time I tried a brimmed hat (following your instructions). I found it difficult to see which stitch to pick up first and which aligned exactly with the needle above. As a result the fabric started twisting and stretching. Would it be easier to put a small peg on the stitch so that I can be extra certain I am picking the corresponding and correct first stitch from the start? I’ve only had the Addi for one week! I so want to eventually make a poncho or a jumper but can’t seem to find a good step by step tutorial/pattern for these. Any suggestions where I can get a pattern for an adult poncho/jumper which caters for different sizes?

    I just made this hate doing 30 rows for the brim then did the fold over and it came out perfect. Did 50 for the body. But when I put it on the hat was enormous meaning so wide. Do you think it’s because I used Caron pound and red heart stripes?
    I can’t figure out why it was so wide around.

    • @VernaBradshaw
      @VernaBradshaw 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Many hats seem to be made as slouchies, but I'm playing around with fewer rows to make a normal hat. I did 25 rounds like she did and my brim was about 1", and then did 50 rows (like she did). 5 rows is roughly 1 inch for me. If it's too wide, put a little more tension on your yarn. I only guide mine and it's fine. I practiced with Caron One Pounder.

    For some reason whenever I finish the brim part, it connects, but then when I go around the stitches tend to drop. Not like normal drop because I know how to fix drop stitches that I can see but the double loops dont catch some way some how. I literally have done with 3 times and every time it happens. I am using the loops and threads machine. Instead of wasting the brim I just take it off and cast it onto my knitting needles and finish the hat hand knit but I bought this so I wouldn’t have to lol. I wish I knew what was going wrong. Maybe the thickness of the double stitches can catch or something.

      I have both the small one.. and the king addi. I do like them both.. the small one is only good for super small baby beanie.. for adults and children you'll need the king size one.

    What about Caron simply yarn? Would the pattern be good for that?

      No, pero es una manera de poner un border sin tener que hacerlo de 2 hileras.. o sea no tan grueso., pero todavía con su border.
