    BG3 is great and I'm glad people are discovering more CRPGs thanks to its popularity...Still, I'm a bit jealous because PoE gets constantly overshadowed and it deservers SO MUCH MORE recognition.

    Playing it for the first time right now, and just reached Defiance Bay. Absolutely loving it so far. Agreed with your points!
    I will also add that I really love the Od nua dungeon. Love those long dungeon crawls in these types of games (and really appreciate they have a way to travel back to where you left off).

    I just recently played POE I&II and the story is amazing. I love the twist that Iovara reveals. Also, when you’re at the Animancy Hearing and they ask who can speak on the issues before them, and the Watcher replies, “I can” with Waidwen’s Legacy from the soundtrack starting at the same time, gives me chills.

    The crowdfunding phase of CRPG was insane. You got devs making ambitious projects left and right: Divinity Original Sin, Pathfinder Kingmaker, Shadowrun Returns, Tides of Numeda; but this game is my personal favorite.

    One of my favorite games ever, the story gave me actual goosebumps.
    And btw, it's the Mechanics skill that spots the traps, and you get a bonus for scouting. On my last playthrough I maxed my wizard companion's mechanics skill and only stepped on one trap during the entire playthrough, and that was my mistake - I was not in scouting mode.

    I don't know if you played the DLC, but it adds more unique and fun items. Some of them synergizes with certain classes. One of my favourites is the Dragon's Maw Shield. It let's its user summon a dragon's breath.
    Even the base game has some fun items. Eder's Saint War armour has a revival ability.
    The enchanted items only adds more stats to it. But every unique item has a unique enchantmenta dn some of them an unique mechanic.

    You'll be happy to hear Pillars 2 fixed the name issue. Names, words and events of significance get highlighted, and by hovering over these highlighted words with the mouse, the game will show you some text giving the relevant context.

    Nothing stops you from rolling a d100 in a tabletop game. Some of the best TTRPG systems are based on d100 system.

    Obsidian came out of Interplay.. who worked alongside Bioware to develop and publish Baldurs Gate 1, 2, Planescape Torment and Fallout 1.. PoE is a great game, with some great mechanics.. especially that you can pause combat and dual wield weapon swap.. but i find the story in PoE abit drawn out at times.. although the writing and story telling is like a novel and gets exciting, if a bit long.. but its worth a playthrough

    Outstanding game. A few nitpicks have me putting this at probably an 8/10 but it’s still so good.
    But Pillars 2 is a masterpiece and my favorite game since Baldurs Gate 2. Hell, I don’t even like pirates and I still loved the setting and world building, and the combat is excellent. Main story is definitely not as strong as the first Pillars but the amount of side content and quests is awesome

  • @csabas.6342
    @csabas.6342 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

    Well Pillars is kinda like the seinen of fantasy CRPGs. The story and the atmosphere is much more grounded and calm, than your tipical eccentric and exciting fantasy aimed towards 10-18 teenage boys like a shonen. It does not hold your hand at all, it requires you to pay attention and piece it together yourself. Also the themes are more challenging and depressing, rather than inspiring and uplifting. It throws very heavy existential questions to the player but in a fantasy setting. So I guess this heavy, gloomy and serious atmosphere threw a lot of people off, who just wanted a fun escapist adventure like in Baldurs Gate.

    • @Lilith_Xolaani
      @Lilith_Xolaani 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Like Baldur's Gate 3*

      @@Lilith_Xolaani Well to me in terms of storytelling BG 1 and 2 are still a more traditional story: a fight between good and evil. BG 3 to me is still BG, but made for gen Z. I think storywise Pillars is much closer to Planescape and Disco Elysium. It deals with the apparent meaninglessness of existence.

Could never really get into PKM, disliked time wasting side mechanics not letting me play the actual crpg game, level and encounter design was a let down with just a handful exceptions. WotR seemed to double down on everything I disliked in PKM with an addition of a whole angels/demons heavy setting an quirky characters I could never care for. I know a bit of dnd 3.5/PF but never had the same admiration for the system diehard fans hold, so it really has little to offer for me.
