    How come the Land Rover quit after breaking a stabiliser link! I disconnect mine on purpose as soon as I leave the pavement to give more flex.

      Paul Weber If I remember correctly the computer didn't know what to do when the wheel traveled beyond it's normal limits, causing it to freak out. That's why I drive an older Rover! (Mine is the one on the thumbnail!)

    Water crossings make me SO nervous. :$ ... Do you guys check diffs and such immediately after, or just keep going? I always do whatever it takes to avoid water crossing, unless it's literally the only way through. Thoughts? Is there really a need to be concerned, or is it truly not that bad when done carefully? That is waaaay too many cars for something that should be remote and special. It eas my favorite place to be on my 36 day overland journey because there were no people 😁

      We agree! That was A LOT of folks. Not how we generally roll, but its fun from time to time! I really like connecting, and sharing good times with folks. Generally you'll see us solo traveling around.

    Miss this place so much. Can't wait to get back. Got so distracted with everything else going on at Expo, I never even found the OB booth. I'll be sure to make it next year, hopefully actually join up on a trip some time too. Need to get back west, hard to find anything but a gravel road through a corn field here in Indiana.

    Over the 4 days what was the distance? How many times did everyone refuel? I don’t see many extra fuel cans on the vehicles?

    Was just there this weekend, can confirm, the School Bus is gone. I hear that some people had actually put a chain to it and tipped it over so the state removed it and it is in a storage facility to ty and put it in a museum or something in the future.

    I am looking for a good 4x4. But all I have right now is a 1997 2wd 4cylinder Isuzu Rodeo, and I am in Georgia. Do you think I should wait till I get a 4x4 or do you think the Rodeo would be capable to do some offroading?

    • @Quarry4x4
      @Quarry4x4 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most definitely take the 2wd. Get out and have a go. Same rules apply let your tyres down as required.

    I noticed a few stock looking trucks in the mix. did they all do the water crossing or is there a bypass?
    I'm heading from Arizona to California in a coulee weeks and thinking about taking this rout, but heard that the water crossing can get over 3 feet deep and I think that would be too much for my stock truck.

    • @OverlandBound
      @OverlandBound  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some stock rigs did the bypass!

    • @TheTravelingTogetherJournal
      @TheTravelingTogetherJournal 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Overland Bound thanks. I'll take that to mean that some stock trucks did do the crossing without flooding and go check it out for myself.

    • @lukekrasner8767
      @lukekrasner8767 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Know where your air intake is. It's a very easy crossing, the only challenge really is depth. The ground is smooth and firm under it. With a good bow wake it was no problem in my tahoe. I also have differential and trans breathers routed up high, which lowered the risk of water getting where it shouldn't.

    • @TheTravelingTogetherJournal
      @TheTravelingTogetherJournal 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks guys. We just finished the trail in our stock T100. We probably had 4 inches between the water and air intake. Definitely one of the deeper, wider water crossings we've done, but we made it

    • @OverlandBound

      The FJ Cruiser? They are great trail rigs. Low visibility to the rear. I owned one - generally good rigs. I like the FJ80 for space.

      I took the "Closed" section in my '02 tahoe. It was definitely doable. I ran into a group with some fantastically built JKs that made it look easy and rolled the pass with them. With a good spotter it wasn't too bad at all. Not sure that I would have attempted it solo.
