Andrew,.. I have lived in AZ for 50 years and it does me good to see you experiencing the desert Southwest of the US. For the record, we call those "Jumping cactus" and pliers is the only and best way to get them out of your clothing and/or skin. Also, there is a tiny bit of venom in them that's very painful for some days after being stuck. Here, we have a saying, "Whiskey is for drinking and water is for fighting". Why? Because water is life and water rights are a big deal. Also of note is that most cacti have a tiny hair like injector which comes as part of the needle. You can't see that hair, but you can feel it and the best way to get that out is duct tape, ripped off quickly in hopes it brings those hairs with it. I'm glad you were able to experience the Air and Space museum in Tucson, it is astounding how much of an area that covers and how much wasted productivity it represents. Fantastic that was not lost on you. Cheers and I hope you come back.

I lived in a very small town called Congress AZ and Wickenburg AZ for about 1 year. From bullhead its just south and a tiny bit east near Yarnel. Anyway thanks for the laugh i need it today.
I was there at Snoverland 2015. It was a crazy one... the mud in the camp area was epic. The deuce and a half was busy pulling out RVs and rigs all day. At 18:01 you see my white Turtleback Trailer behind the woman walking! I had a lake inside my roof tent annex.
The Shackleton brought back so many memories. I was brought up on the Bluff in Durban and the flight path from Louis Botha Airport went over our house. The Shackletons based here flew regularly over our house and always fascinated me. Really noisy!
Thanks for re-releasing this from my backyard.. Was on the Mojave Rd a couple weeks ago . . . in my '92 Hilux with a Go Fast Camper. I agree with you that small is rather good offroad.
Thank you for sharing once again. This almost made me homesick, as a native born and raised Californian, but as soon as you began mentioning all the people, the nostalgia was gone. I have relocated to the northeast of Maine, all the way on the opposite coast, and find the seclusion to be ideal. Also far more beautiful. I spent a few weekends going to Yosemite, as I grew up in the shadows of those mountains, and it was always, ALWAYS spoiled by tourists and folks from away. I didn't mind sharing the beauty, there is certainly enough to go around, but many people didn't much care for the wilderness as folks like us perhaps do. Lots of littering, so much clamoring and loud voices.... I am glad you got to see and appreciate a modicum of North America. Should you ever come this way again, I can't recommend the North East enough.
I get out there just to help forget about the decisiveness . And when you breath in the vastness and "diversity " of this marvelous place, you quickly realize how it's not possible for the tiny minds in government to actually be in charge of it all. .
Haven't seen the three part series before, so I thoroughly enjoyed this one. How would I EVER have known about the existence of all these wonderful places without your content Andrew? Thanks 😊👍👋
Love those old airplane too. I guess those wrecked air plane in the film were S2? I have a good friend he was Navy aviator in Taiwan, at the time of your film was made, he was the S2T pilot and fly the old girl regularly for 20 years. What a beautiful plane.
I was tagged by one of those cacti in Anza Borrego, CA while doing some photography. Got me on the left back of my hand. Tried flicking it off and it wound up on another spot. Had to use a knife to get it off and then pliers to get the needles. Not a pleasant experience. Park ranger said he ran into a scantily clad you woman with cacti all over her rear end one day. Said she was not having a good day, but since he had to pull all the needles out, his day was rather pleasant.
Yeah, mate, but that’s just one vehicle… you guys got soooooo many cool rigs that never graced our shores like Patrols, Utes, the R32/R33/R34 Skyline, and most unforgivable, the entire 70 series of Land Cruisers. All of it because of stupid industrial protectionist laws and we can’t even bring them here until they’re 25 years old!

I’ve been doing it wrong. But, I enjoy my TJ Unlimited aka LJ. 3500lb towing capacity, narrow and light, wheelbase makes it a perfect climber. Put a CVT trailer with rooftop tent or a 1756 Havoc boat and I feel I have the perfect exploring rig.

Yosemite bears are off the hook. When bears in the Sierras THINK there's yummies in your vehicle, they stand up on their hind legs, place both front paws on the top edge of your door, and pull downward and outward. The safety glass explodes, the door frame bends outward, allowing the experienced raider to muscularly sails thru the now open window. They DESTROY the inside of the vehicle with claws and fang, looking for crumbs, cookies, toothpaste, whatever. When U complain to the ranger, they issue YOU the ticket. (I am a local backpacker.) "So, we got that going for us. Which is nice."
I’ve wanted to comment on your Australian videos, you don’t realize how lucky Aussies have it, not to worry about bears. But with your African and now American adventures, you’re well aware.
Great video, an interesting region of the world to explore no doubt, however I think you’ll find the Australian Bunya Pine 🌲 has bigger, heavier cones than the Coulter. Length wise the Coulter wins, but the Bunya regularly produces cones as wide as a pumpkin and weighing over 10kgs (22lbs). Don’t get hit by one ☝️
Beg to differ re the Redwood pine cone @4xoverland but "Australia hates being outdone when it comes to deadly anything, their bunya pines can produce 22-pound pumpkin-sized pine cones"
What year was this filmed Anthony? Yosemite NP is my back yard. Waterfalls are all but dry this year. Secure food in bear proof containers, available at Yosemite Village, not in tent or car. They will rip car doors open. Always carry bear/pepper spray in bear country.
In the years since this trip, 'Overlanding' has devolved further into pure digital vanity. The internet is full of those who've never camped a day in their life, showing off their brand new 4 Runner and RTT, plasti-dipped grills, pleading their compatriots provide exact GPS coordinates of 'where to camp.' You can determine their migration pattern by the trail of toilet paper and trash where it never was before. Can we instead use a code word for Overland, like Proctology, to limit further impact?
This is worthy of discussion. I'd do something on the subject but am afraid I'd come off as condescending. It's so true that so much kit is made to look good first, and practical afterwards, if at all. Take the ridiculous EarthRoamer, for example.

No park should limit the size of an RV - the people paid taxes for the park - prejudiced should be illegal against a tax payer- unless it just dont fit the roads

For a similar project, but to other main car market, could be a Mitsubishi Fuso (Canter) with 4wd, as a base canvas to a rig.
