Surface Flathead Fishing (CATCH & COOK)

- Road tripping SOLO in QLD, I came across this shallow flat full of life! Fishing with bent minnows, I managed to pluck a few fish and decided to catch and cook one.

SEQ, particularly Moreton Bay, is wall to wall with flatties. When wading the flats like that, drag your feet a bit when walking. It might spook some fish, but it will let the rays know you're coming and they'll head off.
It's nice to see you come up to my part of the world and test-drive an area. The Broadwater, Southern Bay islands, Jumpinpin, Wellington Point to Wynnum, Pumicestone Passage (particularly the mouth of Ningi, Coochin and Bells Creeks) are all excellent flathead spots.
My mums' favourite part of a flathead was always the breastplate. Lots of meat, but a few bones too, although they're fairly large and easy to pick out.
Flathead fillets run about $40-50kg lately.

Thanks heaps man! The bent minnows are one of my favourite sub-surface lures, they are an odd looking lure but the action of them just make it look like a wounded baitfish on the surface. Caught plenty of fish on them!
Use the back edge of the knife to scale and you won't blunt it. 👍
