57:00 yes you are, and no, there are a lot of attacks you should roll away from in this game. the fact that you think this is the case is why you struggled on midir. why would you roll anywhere but away from him when youre meant to hit the head??? if you roll into him, you'll be under him so you wont be able to hit his head and he'll do his fire attack which is specifically designed to stop you from rolling inwards
Absolutely. I think Solar and a lot of others think of the combat in this game as roll-spam with no real strategy, but if you really engage with the boss movesets you’ll see that positioning is key to dodging most attacks consistently
@C1yde902 there are attacks you can position to dodge. Vordt, the dancer, even a couple of pontiff's moves are great examples. The difference is that most moves specifically need to be rolled through. DS2 hardly needs you to roll at all, for instance, and compared to that, this game's combat is vastly simplified
@@solarpelletssorry, I should have clarified that I specifically meant roll positioning. Certain attacks require you to roll forwards (Vordt, Oceiros), backwards (Midir, certain attacks from Friede, Demon Prince), or right or left (Gael, Nameless). Granted, the direction of a roll doesn’t matter most of the time but in many cases it does. Also, I would definitely dispute that Ds2 is more complex than Ds3. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m a big Ds2 fan, at least as much as Ds3, but for the most part the bosses emphasize rolling just as much as Ds3, and the ones that don’t are arguably even more simplistic. The cases I can think of are Pursuer (literally just strafe to the right the entire fight, only rolling the horizontal swipe), Old Iron King (hide behind a the wall/walk away from attacks), Ancient Dragon (Big toe goes brrrrrrr, + running towards the tail for fire breath), Vendrick (sticking to the right leg the whole fight), Freyja (head to head), and Fume Knight (threading the wave attack + crazy hitbox speed run strats I’m not good enough to pull off), of which only Fume Knight really feels complicated. Combos in Ds2 are much simpler for the most part, requiring less focus/practice to dodge than those in Ds3. Obviously not everybody likes combos, but to me at least they are an undeniable sign of complexity. Anyway, not trying to spread hate or anything, that’s just my take on things
Midir becomes one of the best fights in the series if you just… roll backwards. Basically every attack becomes punishable, and he stops doing the get off me fire breath; it also stops the camera from freaking out
like you keep being frustrated that you can’t see his tells after you roll into his attacks and are underneath him which like ya if you’re under him it’s gonna be hard to figure out what’s going on
Watching you fight Midir was infuriating. All of his combos can be punished. For some reason you kept rolling into his attacks which triggers him to breathe fire downwards. He is designed to be fought face to face at all times. He goes down pretty fast that way.
31:30 this part of the level is so ridiculous lmao. You have to down to the bottom, over to the far left and past the crabs. There are three witchtrees and killing them randomly makes a ladder drop down, letting you climb all the way up the ledge you were talking about and get the slab. It defies all logic.
1:05:00 Yet another weird design decision- the enemies are infinitely spawned by summoners, which are hidden upstairs behind an illusory wall. Not really sure how you’re supposed to find them while being spammed but hey, at least you can stop them somehow. There’s also the Silver Serpent Ring +3 up there, if you want to grab it
I have not yet watched this video but I am going to make a reply to this comment saying if I agree, I think ringed city is great and ariandel not so much, when I have the chance to fully pay attention I’ll see if your points are similar, pre-watch prediction is that you might not like some of the bosses attacks
I think you would make a killer video out of an early moonlight greatsword challenge run. :) Would be hilarious to watch Vordt get owned by a +5 moonlight. Hahahahha
@@Lyscian420 I'm actually working on a video where I get the raw Astora straight sword to +10 before vordt, so similar concept, but mlgs could be fun, too 🤔
I felt inspired by your series to do a good faith playthrough of DS3 with a claymore. I played through the levels and actually killed nearly everything at least once and eventually switched to Yhorm’s Machete (based on Thingyfishy’s video) And I had a ton of fun playing! Still the least enjoyable of the series for me. The poise system is so frustrating (why do I get stunlocked in full plate by a single hollow with a small dagger). Why does most of the defensive value come from just equipping a piece of gear in a slot instead of the actual value of the armour itself? And omg the aesthetics are so lame. I just am no fan of the washed out gray on white on fog look. It seems like the game mostly wants to test your ability to react and press dodge and r1. More than anything else. The most amount of strategy I used was circle strafing the boss while I waited for my stamina instead of just playing like a monkey. I basically just bum rushed anything that moved and then just dodged like a maniac and the game fell over. It’s a fun game and def the worst in the trilogy. IMO. Also I just want to say that making a space that is exclusionary to bigots and haters is the best way to make a community feel inclusive. If we welcome EVERYONE then invariably the haters and scumbags will ruin a positive space. Wonderful video. Really love everytime you upload.

1:52:01 you can figure out which statute leads to midir because it’s the only one without a sword
Your commentary sounds exactly like my inner monologue when I play souls games lmao
Dark souls 2 mimics have latches.

@@Lyscian420 I don't know how well I explained it, but post-mortem I feel pretty much exactly the same about the game lol. I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
turn your brightness down if you dont want your game to look foggy and "white"
i think you are preventing yourself from enjoying the full experience by that neverending yap about how you cant enjoy stuff couse of some random shit
