    Man I wish I could meet someone like you to teach me how to film in 16mm, film photography is my passion and watching that similar texture in motion is exquisite

    Great film! I wish I had those bolex equipments in 80s so I could have movie of my current village.
    Why not make a digital HD movie of your village in 2022?

    Hey peter! Why did you delete your bolex 16mm video?? It was incredible

    • @peterhoving9207
      @peterhoving9207  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TH-cam took it off the air because one of the 8 pieces of music was not cleared, even though it had played for many years and was very popular. I am trying to get through the brick wall of TH-cam or Google which owns TH-cam. The music was cleared to play on TH-cam, so I need to chisel away and find some answers.
      Thanks for noticing Sunil.

      I'd assume then that pippi lankous was shot on that format as well then.

    hey peter, ive been wondering if you know what audio format the soundtrack for "The Village" was recorded onto and also the keyboard sounding instrument used throughout the film.

    • @peterhoving9207
      @peterhoving9207  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used a UHER 1/4 inch tape recorder for the film, there is a shot of it in the film, and for the keyboard a very early keyboard instrument recorded on a Nagra 1/4 inch tape recorder. All these sounds transferred and mixed from a 16 mm. mag. track ( also shown in film) to an optical track, but for transfer to digital used a 16 mm. magnetic track.

    All these films you made are really great to watch, although i bet they cost a pretty penny to film in 16mm. I'm finding it costs me like 40 dollars per minute of footage for 16mm film. My films are like 5 minutes is all, idk if i will ever be going to like 30 minute films but who knows. Although i have heard that film prices are lower than they've ever been, so i really cant imagine how it was back then. haha

    • @peterhoving9207
      @peterhoving9207  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don't forget, using 16 mm. was the only way to make personal movies in the sixties, and the prices were way lower than they are now. Also, you had to make 16 mm. work prints to safeguard the original footage....

    • @RinoaL
      @RinoaL 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh thats interesting, i thought with inflation that the cost was higher back then.
      but yeah, i'm so glad we now have options other than 16mm film. I make TH-cam videos for a living and that would be impossible without VHS or digital recording methods. My current videos get started and finished/uploaded within a 24 hour window most of the time, meanwhile my little 16mm film is taking like a year to put together.
      i really like your channel, and its a shame you only have like 24 subscribers. i think i will give you a shout-out on my channel, maybe get you some more viewers. I'll probably show my viewers a clip of one of your videos to help get them interested. i find that can help a good deal.
      Oh and lastly, i noticed your TH-cam channel's main page is set to not show tabs, and that makes it harder to search through a channel's videos. People might watch more of your videos if you switch the layout to have the tabs. I find a good number of people find my channel, then go through my "video" tab on my channel and watch a bunch of my videos.

    I really enjoy your films and wonder did you ever have ambitions to direct feature films while making these shorts? And also who would you consider to be your influences?

    • @peterhoving9207

      Thank you for your interesting questions. I have worked on several feature films as Director of Photography. Found it to be mostly boring with too many people around, so never wanted to be a Director and working with actors. I greatly enjoyed the travel when shooting documentaries, working with real people, in the real world in foreign countries. No influences really on making these short films.
      I did like the collaboration with the music composer Newton Wayland on "The Village" film, and the collaboration with the writer, Mary Feldhaus Weber, on "The Grandfather" film. Amazing, these films were done 50 years ago, and still "alive" on TH-cam. Again, thanks for your e mail. Peter.

      Influences would be an interesting in paintings from an early age, especially the "Impressionists"

      Influences would be an interest in paintings, drawings, especially the "impressionists" and even the images of Chagall.

    Why did you stop uploading films... I liked the documentary about the 16mm swiss camera and how you used to have edit old films ,25 seconds to shoot on a single rewind this make people think before shooting not like digital cams

      It's so much easier now, shooting video, especially recording sound at the same time. I could not have shot my video, also on TH-cam called: Making of a Cabinet with film....no way. Thanks for your e mail.
