This was written in memory of frontman Irwin Sparkes' secondary school English teacher, Jonathan "Mr. A" Anderton. Sparkes said he was inspired to write the song upon hearing of Anderton's death in 2006. Many of the lyrics such as: "So busy showing me where I'm wrong - you forgot to switch your feelings on...", were reflective of Anderton's personality as a teacher. Anderton requested his students call him "Mr. A", as he disliked being called "Mr. Anderton". It is from this that the song's title stems.

@@alvaeriksson3623 the band formed in Indiana when one or more of them were "at university," as they'd say. Apparently they enjoy their time there, because a "Hoosier" is literally just a person from Indiana. The word is used in no other sense or connotation.
It's funny how trends move on. About 8 years ago when I was in school I couldn't go anywhere without hearing this song. Now it's as if the band never even existed, I'm only here because I saw it in the suggestion bar.

This had always been lying dormant in the back of my mind since my brother's then best friend showed it to me about ten years ago. Then Oliver covered it and I could have sworn I recognised the opening from somewhere? When he sung "goodbye, dr. D" I was flooded with waves of nostalgia as I remembered this lovely little song. But it's more than that. In my head this song is tied to Josh and an era when my brother was best friends with somebody who I suspect is very gay. Thankyou for listening.

One of these days the shoe could be on the other foot and I'd bet you'd want to be treated with some dignity and human decency. Grow up and stop acting so immature. There's enough bs going on in the world and we don't need more hate. Then again, I guess it feels good for a bigot to punch down online in anonymity. You don't have to show your face or worry about saying crap like this in public. You're safe in your room and your community doesn't have to know there's a bigot walking among them. I just realised that the whole "Goodbye Mr. A" thing is a play on words. Think about it; "Mr. A" sounds like "mystery", and the lyrics like "you had all the answers but you knew too much", "the world was full of wonder till you opened my eyes", and "wish you hadn't blown my mind and killed the surprise".

@@jess-tp8xk If it's just about the singer's english teacher, then it's a pretty big coincidence that both the video and and the lyrics also seem to refer to an actual superhero; especially because some of the lyrics even sort of work as a rebuttal to Objectivism which is the Ayn Randian philosophy which inspired Steve Ditko to create Mr A.

This is such a nostalgic song, aww it's amazing. Deserves way more acknowledged and views.
I have meditated on this issue, and am now convinced that Mr. A was a real superhero and served the people well but at some point the government got scared of him like the dillema of superman and decided to put him down. But because he helped people so much over the years they decided to at least made him a goodbye song and this is what they came up with.
It's actually about one of thier teachers lol, but Mr A was a real comic hero.
