My mentor went to their show last night and I'd never heard of them. Now I'm here in 2024, listening to what could easily be released today and _dominate_ . Timeless is the word! ...and further confirmation I picked the right mentor. 😌
I remember my college roommate used to blast this song about 10 years ago, and he got me into so many good bands. Such great times and great memories with this
Still kinda is. TDCC are pretty big and have a lot of big songs, and a lot of indie artists are getting big now like Clairo and boy pablo. indie music is still big lol
@@jayesse9053 of course no one is disputing that, but during 2009 - 2013, there was such a huge rise in indie music that people only listened to these songs, nowadays while it still is very popular, it has lost the old hype it used to have
Can someone explain to me what makes this song give that “feeling?” Like that melancholy, makes you want to dance but gives you sad feelings. The lyrics of the chorus give that feeling. But I’m curious about the music theory of the song. What key is the song in? Is he singing certain notes that give the feeling?
major 7th chords gives that melancholic sound. See also 1979 by Smashing Pumpkins, Here's Where the Story Ends by the Sundays. Keen on Boys by Radio Dept. All have similar chord progressions incorporating at least one major7 chord
Adding on to this, the key is F# minor which means that the seventh chord on the tonic would be minor as well. However, they omit the 3rd of the chord in the main chord progression resulting in the chord not actually being minor. They add it back in during the verse causing it to have a more somber feeling
So funny how a guitar riff that is so technically simple can sound so melodically genius, but I guess that’s what all great guitar riffs do 😂. Makes our brains happy !
My big brother taught me how to play guitar and immersed me in the world of music. This was one of the songs he showed me about 10 years ago. TDCC has been my favorite band ever since. 6 years ago my brother killed himself, I never hear this song without thinking of my brother. But it doesnt make me sad, listening to this song (and the whole album) feels like getting a hug from a very good, old friend.
I was on duty in Pensacola back in 2011 and they had a tv in the duty hut, and this band was making their MTV debut and I remember just being completely blown away by this song. Here I am 11 years later feeling the same exact way
I love this video. The song, the style, the way the choreography looks as if it were demonstrated twice and practiced once. Everything fits and is gold.
What genre is this? I thought indie is 'independent' music, as in music that is not released by major labels. I didn't know there's a musical style attached to it.

I didn't know what this song was called but it used to play on my radio at midnight every night! So one night I recorded the entire song I even snook my phone to bed and stayed awake then almost 3 months after my phone broke when I got a new one I discovered that they had copyrighted the song and took down the video that I watched it on so one day I decided to look it up but like I said I didn't know what this song was called so I looked up the whole song, I typed all the lyrics out and got the song!!!! I don't know if you will respond or anything Or if your channel still exists still but give me a heads up if you are alive, it is currently 12:50 in the morning!!!!
I was 9 years old when this song came out. I used to get up early on Saturday mornings, boot up Minecraft and play two door cinema club and vampire weekend while I played survival games 🥲 I don’t think it will ever get better than that
I was probably around the same age. My mom would wake me up at 6am for school and turn on VH1 and this song played all the time for multiple years. Discovering this song again flooded me with these great memories
Thats the way it should be! I hope the littles are collecting memories like this. Copyright and near constant stream-following have changed things so much. How many parents listen to music and dance around the house with their kids watching from the background these days? I hope it's more than I imagine. It kind of feels like _"nostalgia hate"_ is at an all-time high.
idk how to describe this but this song gives really strong jpop vibes. Like everytime I listen, at the start I'm like omg I havent heard this jpop song yet but then I remember that this is that one weirdly jpop-y english indie song

when this song came out, I remember reading a comment that had me laughing hard, it was something along the lines of how Ron Wesley, Harry Potter and Neville Longbottom started a band after Hogwarts
I totally forgot about this band until yesterday and have been listening. I was in college in the early 2010’s and remember them on the radio while I worked on campus. So glad I remembered them.
Same. Indie pop, synthpop dubstep/brostep and metalcore/post hardcore all in the cultural zeitgeist around this time. Fond memories of post hs graduation and college/party years.
I have the fondest memory of discovering this song on this Vh1 show called Popup Video. I remember sitting in the floor on a Saturday morning at my Grandma’s house when I was probably like 13 or so. We didn’t have cable at my parents house so watching tv was a nice treat. I remember it being such a lovely day and the first thing I heard that morning was this song. The memory of this song makes me feel warm and fuzzy, like I’m 13 and visiting my Grandma for the weekend all over again. Yeah... this song has a special spot in my heart :)
I knew this song for years but never bothered to search it up. But today I saw an edit with this song and was like: Wait, I know this song. What was it name again??
I've known this song for exactly 7 years but it never received any radio play before that over here. Actually, I don't think I've ever heard this song anywhere else than my own playlists.
Still listening in 2024, been listening since 2017, will never stop listening, i had tickets for their show in Toronto but they had to cancel their tour last minute, gonna make it my mission to see them!
I have so many good memories with this song its insane. I instantly travel back to my summer times in 2014with my friends in Brazil, driving the car by the boulevard. Just living life. It was amazing.

Man, I miss the days when indie music was all the craze.
Do you listen Hippo Campus?
Still kinda is. TDCC are pretty big and have a lot of big songs, and a lot of indie artists are getting big now like Clairo and boy pablo. indie music is still big lol
@@jayesse9053 of course no one is disputing that, but during 2009 - 2013, there was such a huge rise in indie music that people only listened to these songs, nowadays while it still is very popular, it has lost the old hype it used to have
Man, u r mistaken , even at this moment Indie is popular . It just seems to you
Gian Villanueva it’s still pretty popular it’s just hard to see cause rap became the new pop so it’s everywhere now
Can someone explain to me what makes this song give that “feeling?” Like that melancholy, makes you want to dance but gives you sad feelings. The lyrics of the chorus give that feeling. But I’m curious about the music theory of the song. What key is the song in? Is he singing certain notes that give the feeling?
I'd love to know too dude
The 2010s-2013s. Really good alt rock possibly? Idk this brings back memories of driving back to my house while we listened to alt rock.
major 7th chords gives that melancholic sound.
Jon Wellington thx man. U got a playlist or something? U got some interesting music

I think indie music always has they good feeling vibe that some other genres don’t have and it always is good for singing along to
What genre is this? I thought indie is 'independent' music, as in music that is not released by major labels. I didn't know there's a musical style attached to it.

I have the fondest memory of discovering this song on this Vh1 show called Popup Video. I remember sitting in the floor on a Saturday morning at my Grandma’s house when I was probably like 13 or so.
