Seeing SC and all of Jay Wards shows first as a little kid when the jokes didn't quite sink in, watching them over the years I can appreciate their genius in combining extreme whimsy with cynicism. That was Ward's gift. If you don't laugh at life you cry.
Peabody and Sherman, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Boris and Natasha, Dudley Do-Right, Hoppity Hooper, Fillmore Bear, and Professor "Uncle" Waldo Wigglesworth make cameos at the beginning of the episode. Talk about a reference to the other Jay Ward cartoons.
Super Chicken is greatness!! The line, "You knew the job was dangerous when you took it" is a line that Super Chicken often uses in the various episodes. I first heard that line 35-40 years ago when I was a small kid. I think of that line often and use it sometimes when joking around with others. I miss the old days of the Jay Ward cartoons (Bullwinkle, George of the Jungle, Fractured Fairy Tailes, etc).
Louie the Lapin closely resembles Eggs Benedict in the "Super Chicken" pilot episode, which was made two years before this episode. Super Chicken's name was Hunt Strongbird, Jr., a play on the name of a real TV executive named Hunt Stromberg, Jr. The real person obviously didn't like that, which is why none of Jay Ward's shows were seen on CBS. ☹️🐔🐇😀
They always implied that Superchicken was hittin' the sauce. They couldn't get away with that anymore. They couldn't get away with "Mr. Terrific" getting his powers from Power Pills nowadays, either. Ralph Bakshi couldn't even get away with Mighty Mouse getting his powers by smelling a flower: Jerry Falwell insisted that it was a metaphor for snorting coke. (He also maintained that Tinky Winky, the purple Teletubby, was gay.) We have gone stone-cold f/k-nuts.
For all the Jay Ward completists out there: Note the cameo by Hoppity Hooper, Waldo Wigglesworth & Fillmore Bear at the start of the episode (along with Bullwinkle, Dudley Do-Right, et. al.) Probably the only time Hoppity's ever been seen on Cartoon Network.
lol bunnies with guns, shop windows saying "DRUGS", a chicken drinking martinis for power - why can't cartoons get away with this stuff anymore? Super Chicken was one of my favourites!
Fred ("i put a little salt on the rim!")would be the second gay cartoon character in history - the first of course would be Snaglepuss.("exit! stage right!")
does anybody else feel that the time has come for a Super Chicken revival?.....hey, they did it for George Of The Jungle, why not Super Chicken and Fred?.......
Now this is what a cartoon should be. Just silly, good old-fashioned entertainment without having to overthink anything or worry about being politically correct. God I miss the good old days
One of the funniest Super Chicken cartoons ever. I love the line when the bunny pulled out a gun at the teller and the woman says, ''Let him have it, Easter Bunny.''
I KNEW it would be on youtube! I tell people at work when they screw up, "you knew the job was dangerous when you took it, Fred!" They look at me like, "huh?". I answer, "You never heard of Super Chicken?" "No." "George of the Jungle?" "Oh, the movie?" Nevermind.
great cartoon--i dont remember being in this one ,i mean ever seeing it--this is one of the best episodes of super chicken--it was the middle cartoon between GEorge and tom slick--but its the best--with bill scott's voice --puk puk--he did as well- George / Super Chicken / Tom Slick / Gertie Growler (voice)
Thanks for the info, agree with you wholeheartedly. I think the cartoons kids are watching nowadays are melting their brains. All my friends grew up watching this kinda stuff and we all turned out to be really good people. The kids now don't have any of this stuff we grew up with yet all I see are whole lot of mentally disturbed, crooked degenerates around me.
I use that line a lot, too. In fact, I used it last night on a Facebook friend, but she'd never seen Super Chicken (!), so I got on YT to find an example for her. That led me to rosscarlson's channel, and I made an instant fan of her. :) Hey, is your username in reference to Quick Draw McGraw?
Voice-over artist extraordinaire Paul Frees was Fred (Super Chicken was voiced by Bill Scott).
50 years and it's still funny.
Fred, you knew the job was dangerous when you took it!
BEST. CARTOON. THEME. SONG. EVER!
This and "Underdog".
Fred put a little salt around the rim of the glass, making a super sauce margarita. Funny stuff.
Ha ha. This cartoon is hella old. Remember watching it as a kid on the Rocky and Bullwinkle show.
LOVED this show as a kid...Great stuff!!!
Oh yeah most definitely

you forgot abbot and costello dumb and dumber etc... its divide and conquer strategy in truth in cartoons and lies in the news'
Fred: "Why don't you just use your super-vision?"
Super-Chicken: "If I had supervision, do you think I'd be dressed like this?"
"You don't wanna wake up with no Easter eggs, do ya?" Could that have been a double entendre?
Simply outstanding Witt both then and now.
The scrawny, under-developed chicken became a scrawny, over-developed Super Chicken!
Super Chicken is greatness!!

Superchicken is a true great cartoon. Nostalgic and still a great cartoon for kids these days.
Fred ("i put a little salt on the rim!")would be the second gay cartoon character in history - the first of course would be Snaglepuss.("exit! stage right!")
Terrific!! Thanks Bede for the heads up. Go Super Chicken and Jay Ward!
*lmao @ 'aw shut up'*
It must have been 25 years or so that I haven't seen this. I am freaking laughing my ass of here. I still dig it.
does anybody else feel that the time has come for a Super Chicken revival?.....hey, they did it for George Of The Jungle, why not Super Chicken and Fred?.......

What an insane crimminal. I love when the Easter Bunny takes out a gun.
How could 13 people not like SuperChicken 🤔
Fred sounds like Jonny mac on Big brother lol!!!
Now this is what a cartoon should be. Just silly, good old-fashioned entertainment without having to overthink anything or worry about being politically correct. God I miss the good old days
you forgot to mention a firearm.
"Oh YEAH! You've outdone yourself Fred...
Yes, well I put salt on the rim...."
if i ever rob a bank i know what im gonna dress up as :)
This is great. Takes me back to childhood.
"do you wanna wake up easter morning with no easter eggs?.....you do wanna wake up easter morning? "
If I were Henry, I would've chipped away at Fred's eggshell, to get him out.
One of the funniest Super Chicken cartoons ever. I love the line when the bunny pulled out a gun at the teller and the woman says, ''Let him have it, Easter Bunny.''
"When you hear that cry in the sky, you'll know it's Super Chicken... and his polka dot Easter egg!"
I KNEW it would be on youtube!
I tell people at work when they screw up, "you knew the job was dangerous when you took it, Fred!"

So jerry seinfeld didn't make it up for that TV spot....
@heine71 At least the production of the show involved Jay Ward.
how do I know what super chicken is
its something your born with, born 1965 though .
Classic stuff!
Not so odd; back then it was common to use the word "DRUGS," to indicate a Drug Store.
Oh, yes, they were! That was Ward's final series for General Mills....
Hey hand. Over that doe. Easter bunny ,lowie the laugh in. Is a crook.
@Quickdraw1111 I use that line all the time too.
I use that line a lot, too. In fact, I used it last night on a Facebook friend, but she'd never seen Super Chicken (!), so I got on YT to find an example for her. That led me to rosscarlson's channel, and I made an instant fan of her. :)

Everyone knows the Red Carrot Hotel is for traveling Easter Bunnies.
I think Fred is gay and Jewish.
"THE MIGHTY CHICKEN HAD DONE IT AGAIN!"
the easter bunny robs a bank.....and super juice is alchohal
Is that Mel Brooks doing the voice of Fred?
No, Paul Frees
Louie could just move to Canada
This ‘super myoposcope’ does not actually find anything. They run into the villians hideout by accident!

Long Live The Easter Bunny!!!!
this looks like the old gorge of the jungle
It's a good thing Elmer Fudd wasn't in this cartoon otherwise it would be Easter Bunny stew!
