I find them to be good speakers, plus they're vintage and speakers like those just have a place in my heart. I don't mean to offend anyone and besides they are over 30 years old destroying them will not help us our replenish resources😊
@@themechanicalwolf5081 I'm right with you. These aren't bad speakers at all if you can get a good deal on them. Sure, the build quality of the enclosures (using ½" Particle board w/minor bracing & old couch foam) isn't all that great, but the drivers are decent - with woofers ranging from 6-½" to 12" depending on the model you have, either made by Oxford or Rola, and these woofers either have a treated folded paper surround or butyl rubber, unlike the foams on most other drivers that would deteriorate with age.
They don't have a ton of excursion capabilities but, they're efficient and can take a beating (I mean, look at the size of the voice coil on that thing! It even managed to hold up for a good few seconds while being tortured, despite having a cardboard-like former. That's a quality build right there!).
The horn tweeters are made by Foster, and higher end models also have a midrange driver by Foster.
The 2500Hz crossover consists of a capacitor, and a wound-up coil, so it's not some effortless junk. Provides a very balanced sound, kinda like Hi-Fi on a steak dinner budget.
I just purchased a 6-½" Rola Woofer from an Allegro 1000 on the Bay, and hope to put it to good use. For the time being though, I'll just have fun with it in free-air, with the included Zenith-spec female bullet leads.

What kind of speakers are at 3:39
For those wondering, those are Zenith Allegro 3000's (earlier versions, not the MC3000). As-is they're not great. The cabinets are fairly thin particle board, and the crossovers leave some to be desired. But the drivers Zenith used for the Allegro series are great. These early models have 3" Textile or metal horn tweeters made by Foster, and woofers made by either Oxford or Rola. The woofers can take a LOT of abuse and hold their own compared to other woofers.
These particular 3000's came with the 3-½" Textile horn tweeters and 10" Rola woofers, constructed in a similar manner to pro-audio woofers. Rola made two versions of woofer for the 3000, one with an AlNiCo magnet (as seen in the video), and one with ferrite/ceramic. Some units of the 3000 had Carbonneau woofers, often characterized by the ribbed/flat Textile dust cover as opposed to the large dome-like covers on the Rola woofers.
I had a pair of 3000's for a short time, and while I enjoyed their punch, they were definitely V-shaped and I found the treble a bit hot for my taste with the treble control defeated. Unfortunately I noticed a buzzing in one of the woofers that was consistent with the bass regardless of volume, and so I had to return them.
These can be modified with a helping of 2x4 bracing, better acoustic damping material, and better crossovers. I've heard when configured as such, they will dog several other speakers that were considered far better. If you can pick these up cheap (under $50/pair) and upgrade them a bit, then you will have yourself a fine pair of mid-size bookshelf speakers.
