    Years ago when I worked at a Toyota dealership, we swapped an early F engine into a 1958 GMC pickup that belonged to one of the parts men. Other than having to use the GMC bellhousing and clutch, and having the Toyota flywheel drilled to accept the GM pressure plate, it was a bolt in swap. Even the exhaust pipe and radiator hoses fit!

    Hey, question for you... I have a '72 FJ40 with the 1F and I've been shopping for engine parts and I see that SOR has oversize pistons, but they are for September '72 and later 1Fs... What is the difference? Would I be able to use those in a July '72 engine? Love your FJ40 videos...

    • @landcruiserintervention9443
      @landcruiserintervention9443  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching I enjoy chatting and sharing info. Boy that mid 72 seems to be an anomaly. I know 9/72 and later were domed and totally different, but why 1/72-9/72 is different from earlier F's I am not sure and I want to find out why now. SOR has some 1/72-9/72 pistons on their website, their site is weird when you click on the part number and the price list comes up you just have to scroll down farther on the page to find them. It shows they have STD, .010 and .020 over. Have you seen that guy that goes by JNH classics here on youtube? He is having trouble with his I believe 72 F motor too, he is having it rebuilt and I believe he said his machine shop had pistons. He's basically trying to figure out the same issue

      @joesixpack7551 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@landcruiserintervention9443 yeah, I've posted on his site too. I have a July 72 FJ40 and the engine is locked up. I have not torn it down yet but I'm guessing I will have the same issue as JNH. I've been waiting to hear back with another post on his site, but maybe in the next couple weeks? So if the post 9/72 pistons are domed, did it use a different head? I am not an FJ40 guru, that is why I'm asking you... :o)

      @@joesixpack7551 Hey Joe sixpack Sorry I am just answering sold that red 65 Fj and I had to get it ready to go of course after it sells it don't want to run. I am not sure if the domed piston style heads are different I have tried to find out but nobody seems to know the differences

    what year was the engine on the right produced, I have one in my fj but cannot figure what year to get parts for, the part number I have on the engine is F263094 thanks for the help buddy

    • @landcruiserintervention9443
      @landcruiserintervention9443  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You got what looks to be a early 1969 F motor, Specter Off Road has chart showing block numbers and it shows 8/69 as 290409 so 263094 should be early 69 or later 68 but parts should be pretty close. They ran the F until 74 and and most parts are pretty much the same

    Yeah funny thing My FJ motor is also from a early 73 and its the half and .5 one which is a bit of anomaly it looks more like the 2F the valve cover looks nothing like the older 69 1F or the newer 2F its like solid grey with the ripples on the side without the Toyota Sign on top. My machine shop said pistons were a bit more doomed more compression and redid the whole thing with climber RV cams from what he told me he said its an early 2F. Its anomaly

    • @landcruiserintervention9443
      @landcruiserintervention9443  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The machine shop didn't happen to say if the head is different for the domed pistons did they ???? Me and a guy on here joe sixpack were trying to figure out if the heads were different on the half engine because of the domed pistons

    years ago i rebuilt the motor in my 64 fj40 twice. original motor lost oil pressure and seized as did my first rebuild. my h.s. auto shop teacher double checked all my work. we even measured the oil pump with the feeler gauge. looking back i probably should have replaced it but the gears looked good. The main crank bearings had the shims and i always thought that was the problem. I somehow set up the crank bearings wrong maybe. Its always bothered me that i never figured out what caused the low oil pressure. I even put washers behind the oil pressure relief spring. when at idle oil pressure would go real low. sold it before it blew up a 3rd time. Anyone else had problems with low oil pressure in these engines?
