I love my 2006 3.0R Outback. I too would say the brakes are a little woolly compared to other cars I have owned. This does have an advantage off road and on snow and ice where the initial braking faze is gentle and predictable. It is a great all round, solid, fast good looking machine.

As a brand Subaru is one of the the safest in brands of car on the market. The outback has more to offer than the base models of some other brands There a lot of the older outback’s still on the road today because of their dependability.
I still own my Outback 2.5 with manual gear. It has 305.000 Km and it still drives incredible well. The only real problem is the performance but overall is still a very nice and comfy car to drive.
I recently got one of these turbocharged Subaru Outback wagons, but it seems absolutely nobody ever tested the manual transmission version. I couldn't find a single automotive publication publish a video of one.
@Steven Tran the engine has been fantastic, I've had to change out all wheel bearings ,CV axle ,brakes, and tires, but its saved me alot on fuel, and its cheaper on the insurance as well so ,I'm happy
I’m looking to buy a 2005 Subaru Outback limited. I had a for mustang and I total the car after a rain storm. I have been scared of driving in the rain from that point on . The awd will bring me to get my nerves back in order driving in the rain
Love the car and am picking up an '06 by the end of the week, but the braking test here is almost frighteningly bad. I haven't come across another review complaining about this, so I wonder if something was wrong with their particular model.

@Bill Perri I have the 2.5 with 170hp. If you feel attracted to the car design and interior satisfies ur needs (2005 no easy radio install!) and is willing to maintain when the time comes... take the XT. The 2.5 is more than enough, BUT..... It is such a nice car that it deserves more power ;) I paid 4.2k on mine. 102k miles.
0-60 in 6.8 seconds with the 2.5 Liter turbocharged Boxer engine and 5 speed automatic transmission? That's faster than the 2015 Outback with the 3.6 Liter H-6 engine and CVT. Sadly Subaru didn't put the 2.0 Liter turbocharged engine with both the Legacy and Outback, which could have been better options.

Some failures of the “high torque” CVT transmissions (Ascent models, no Outback models that I am aware of) but even those seem to be some early build runs that have since been corrected/ upgraded to a certain degree.

You can replace the brake pads with sintered pads. I'm not sure what that does for a car, but they really improve a motorcycle's brake performance.

If you loose it in the wet in a Subaru, you either have bald tires or are simply driving way too fast, or both.
