Question. I've just had this head unit professionally installed in my 2014 Tundra SR5 but I was not able to retain steering wheel control functionality and back-up camera feature. Did you run into this issue after installing your head unit or were you able to purchase a certain type of harness/adapter to solve this issue?

Use foam tape it's real thin 1/8th by 1 inch wide. We use it in the hvac field. Did you do any research into joying? They have dsp and some neat features

What launchers have you tried. Everything can look completely different by just downloading Android headunit launchers. Also seems to be lots of different audio tuning apps.
I tried the stock one and the car launcher ag that was pre-installed. I try to evaluate based on what is installed from the factory as that's what people see when they first install. I can try out others also though.

Unfortunately with this video being over 2 years old I do not have this unit any longer. I ended up going back to the tesla style unit as I prefer it's form factor. The tesla style unit has served me well since. However on carplay, I never understood the appeal of android auto or carplay on a full android device like this when you can just turn on your hotspot and have everything you need on the device itself. I know carplay/aa works, you just need to launch the app on the radio first. Also when you order it, use my link and make sure you message the seller with your vehicle year and all so that you will get the proper canbus adapter for your truck.

My only question I've been looking for answers for was touched on here. Will it control the A/C through the head unit? It will fit my car, but would block my A/C controls. If it can control the A/C and heat, than it fits all my requirements. Will it though? Only briefly mentioned here...
Not very far. I was worried how far it would stick out too but it is barely out enough to get your hand or a tool back there to tighten the screws and that's about it.
I am using android but there are so many variables it is hard to say what will work. Personally I just have Tasker set to turn on Hotspot once it is in range of the truck Bluetooth.
Question for you sir. How’s the microphone with phone calls? I saw your install video, and just saw you put it in the cavity. Did your steering wheels control work out of the gate?
Steering wheel controls worked perfectly fine. Although some may need some settings changed but it's not a huge deal. Microphone was much better than the tesla one but not quite as good as stock. Close but not exact.

I have never had the Halo so I can not compare directly to it. What I have heard from others who have had both they love the Dasaita more since it is cheaper and more configurable. As for what you need to keep factory GPS and such, that is in the description of this video. You really only need the GPS adapter, USB adapter, and dash kit. If you order via Amazon the canbus adapter comes with the unit and that takes care of steering wheel controls and such.
Actually sold it not too long after this video. Went back to the tesla style unit. I just like the way it looks better. The dasaita definitely did some things better though.
Do you know of a way of transferring phone contacts from your Android phone to the phone on this unit? I have a Dasaita Max6 and can't seem to figure it out.
You will have to be logged in to your Google account on both your phone and the head unit. Then you can sync contacts between them. Typically though you are only making calls via Bluetooth and sharing contacts is part of the pairing process.
Hard to say as I have never dealt with that car. If you follow the link in the description to purchase the unit and contact the seller they should be able to provide you a canbus adapter that will retain all your factory functions.
@@millan5.799 you may have to change the canbus settings on the unit to work with your vehicle. Also, no the screen sits out from the dash. That is how it is designed.
I'm sure you could. Although you really never see the boot up screen since this is a fastboot unit. It's pretty much instant on after the initial boot. You can easily use a logo as the background image on various launchers/homescreens though.
Yes. The factory sub amp on the jbl is junk. You'll want to replace it with something better. Hit up James Randy Taylor at tech12volts and let him know what you are wanting and he will work with you to get you the best setup in your budget.
The dasaita with the dsp is far superior to the stock radio. It is also far more customizable than the stock unit so you can tune the sound to whatever your preference is.
The same as a standard radio. Don't tie it to one person's account if you have multiple people in it. Or add multiple accounts for each driver to have their own.

Hello, I have the same unit in my tundra. After I installed it, the beep sound you get when locking and unlocking the truck vent away. Do you know how I can reprogram that? Thank you.
You have a few options: 1. Put the stock radio back in and go through settings to make sure the beep is on. It should stay once you set it manually off then back on. 2. Go in to car settings on the Dasaita and try to find the proper setting. I do not currently have the unit handy so cannot help here. 3. If all else fails you can take it to Toyota dealer and have them program it back in. This option costs alot so another way to do it is to get a Mini-VCI cable and the Techstream software and do it yourself. Each have their own goods and bads. One is not inherently better than the other as it depends on the use case. Kind of like different android OEM manufacturers. If you don't mind tinkering with the settings some and like the looks I would say the tesla style one. But if you want something that mostly "just works" and don't mind it looking a little out of place then the dasaita is what you should get. Personally I loved the tesla style looks and bigger screen but the dasaita had a full working DSP built in and the audiophile side of me was like a kid in a candy store. Plus if you worry about not being able to control ac/heat if the screen goes out then the dasaita is the way to go.
For the tundra at least, you will have to make sure you have it set to the proper canbus settings in the advanced settings. Also make sure that you have the correct cable plugged in as there are a couple of them that look the same.
Slightly rounded one with dasaita at the bottom is newer. They have the same cpu and internals, biggest change is the screen mount. The square one only pivots up and down while the rounded one goes side to side also.
If you want it to just work, get the dasaita. If you want something cool that few othera have and don't mind tinkering with it a little to get it "just right" then I'd definitely grab the tesla. Personally I like the tesla and don't mind tinkering. Plus it has that wow factor.
I'm a techie so I am leaning towards the Tesla. My stock has been intermittently rebooting while I drive. So may just bite the bullet and get the Tesla.

It has Google Play store and apps so there is that. Not sure it is "Google official supported" but that does not really matter much to me since it just works.

The dasaita unit does not take over the air conditioner control. Do you mean the outside temperature? If so that is a setting under "car settings" if I remember correctly.
I loved it when I had it. Was a solid device with a ton of customization possibilities. If you don't want the tesla style that takes over your ac controls but want something better than stock I highly recommend the dasaita unit.
If you feel comfortable following some TH-cam videos and have a basic knowledge of things it really is not that hard. But if you are not too sure about it I would suggest shelling out the cash to have a knowledgeable shop do it. The key to doing it yourself is take your time and have everything laid out and mapped out that you need to do. Doing this just takes a basic set of tools: nylon pry tools to get bottom trim off and 10mm socket w/ at least a 6 inch extension to unbolt the radio's 4 bolts. The rest is literally just unclipping things. DIN refers to a 2″ tall x 8″ wide opening that a radio fits into. DIN stands for Duetch Industri Normen which the Germans starting using to standardize the radio's in Audi's, BMW's, Mercedes, VW's way back in the mid 80's. ... DOUBLE DIN is the same width of 8″ but is 4″ tall instead of 2″.
This specific model only goes up and down. They have another one that tilts left to right and another that will rotate from horizontal to vertical orientation. I chose this one because it doesn't have the huge Dasaita logo on the bezel.
This was shot months before Sony announced that though. The problem was that the app somehow saw the unit as rooted even though it was not. This is not an issue now though as TH-cam TV works great on these units and that is where Sony is pushing everyone to go to now.
This unit had a dongle with it that you used to plug in the phone to. Then you opened the app on the radio and it showed your phone (Android Auto or Apple CarPlay). The newer ones have built in options and CarPlay has wireless options too.

Mine came with the canbus adapter that kept all oem controls.

Yes! That was one thing I loved on the OEM radio. This having it was a bonus.
What about the steering wheel radio functions??
Still works. Just like the Tesla style, a few buttons operate a little differently than you'd expect but they all work.

No, the dasaita does not have any ac controls. There are other manufacturers that have "tesla style" head units that do control ac/heat though.

I cannot say. Shortly after this video I went back to the tesla style unit. The dasaita was great, I just prefer the look of the tesla style.

Digital Signal Processor. It can manipulate the signal more than a standard bass, mid, high deal.
The problem is that these Chinese Android Auto Headunits will probably appear rooted because of the Custom AOSP Rom that is applied.
Did your limited have the factory JBL system ?
No. But this unit works with both JBL and non-JBL.
Can you put a screen saver or background image to display while the music is playing?
I don't think the stock firmware has this but the custom firmware I tried does.

Is that screen detachable?
Yes, but not easily. It is not like a detachable face plate on a regular radio. It takes a few minutes to remove and reinstall it each time.

DIN refers to a 2″ tall x 8″ wide opening that a radio fits into. DIN stands for Duetch Industri Normen which the Germans starting using to standardize the radio's in Audi's, BMW's, Mercedes, VW's way back in the mid 80's. ... DOUBLE DIN is the same width of 8″ but is 4″ tall instead of 2″.

Does this unit swivel left to right. I know it moves up and down. Does anyone know?
This specific model only goes up and down. They have another one that tilts left to right and another that will rotate from horizontal to vertical orientation. I chose this one because it doesn't have the huge Dasaita logo on the bezel.
Your PS VUE may be having issues because SONY is doing away with it
This was shot months before Sony announced that though. The problem was that the app somehow saw the unit as rooted even though it was not. This is not an issue now though as TH-cam TV works great on these units and that is where Sony is pushing everyone to go to now.

CarPlay work?
This unit had a dongle with it that you used to plug in the phone to. Then you opened the app on the radio and it showed your phone (Android Auto or Apple CarPlay). The newer ones have built in options and CarPlay has wireless options too.
