    For anyone who’s gonna make this I advice you to look up what type of pine you collect needles from since some are toxic. Super important!

      The way I test to see if it’s suitable is by chewing on a single needle, but not consuming it (obviously) if it’s really bitter, I don’t use it

    Your studies are paying off! Keep it up! If you are okay with it...I would like to offer one quick 'Pro Tip' regarding medicinal Pine Needles that you may not find in the standard herbals: Boiling and steeping the needles yield two different results. The steeped (hot water poured over the needles) is best as a PREVENTATIVE for colds/flu and keeps some of the more delicate 'essences' in tact. (It is good to 'bruise' the needles after cutting them for steeping purposes.) Boiling, on the other hand, may be better for TREATING an exsisting infections (as you mention). I LOVE the idea of using cinnamon or peppermint (both of these have heating properties) which match wintertime well. (My grandmother was an Appalachian folk healer in the Blue Ridge Mountains of N. Georgia...a tradition I fell in love with. I studied first herbalism with the East-West School of Planetary Herbology and am currently studying Chinese Herbal Medicine under Miles Coleman at the Hsin-Fa School of Chinese Herbal and Energetic Medicine.) You are doing awesomely! I look forward to many more!

      Michael Bowers How long should the needles be steeped? Thank you!

      Maria-Liisa Soosalu - Young pine needles taste better but those at least one year old have more medicinal power but a stronger taste. Either one steep for at least 20 minutes. Remember to not only cut but bruise them.

    Pine also clears negative energy and drives out negative entities from your home. I make pine vinegar to cleanse my home with. You can use it in a bath as well.

    Another use for pine needles is to bruise them and rub them on your flesh to stop misquitoes from biting

    Love that you're shedding some light on this lesser known winter remedy! Spruce needles can be used to make tea in almost the same fashion, though I find the flavor is a bit stronger with spruce so less is needed. Both pine and spruce are amazing sources of vitamin C as well!

    Is there a particular species of Pine that is better than others? The closest to a Pine where I live is Cedar, would that work?

    • @cocobeanie4704
      @cocobeanie4704 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      GermanWoman_Ren be VERY careful when working with pine. There are some very toxic species out there. I don’t know about cedar (you should research), but be careful.

    If pine needles are unavailable, can Pine Sol be substituted?
    I'm thinking a 1:1 ratio of Pine Sol to honey might be good.
    Just kidding folks, don't go and get all bent out of shape.
