    Just for fun I have been watching some of the other pros on their jerkbait to see the difference in techniques. Not one of them use a spinning outfit, all use baitcasting equipment. Alot of them use the Megabass jerkbaits and seem to love them. I have used jerkbaits over the years but have not had alot of success. I am going to go to a spinning setup and give it a try. Like you I use Seaguar Invizx line most of the time and it has not failed me. Living in Florida around the Harris Chain I use them alot, but I would like to try them at Okeechobee and Kissimmee. Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated !! Thanks for all the great videos and information.

      Yeah there’s really no reason to use a caster for jerkbait fishing I’ve caught hundreds of fish with it all on spinning rod

    I've recently purchased a spinning rod to throw jerkbaits because I wasn't comfortable jerking with my left hand with a bait caster. The only issue i'm having is that when I pick up slack its going below my spool and winding on the body of the reel. I'm using braid to fluoro with a 2500 size reel.

    You mentioned the spinning rod Whipsnake because it's a medium action, but the Megabass site indicates it's actually light/extra-fast and for drop-shot. Did you mean another rod? I'm a spin guy and typically throw lighter stuff.

    • @ziggylarkdust
      @ziggylarkdust 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use a drop shot rod for my jerkbaits as well. You want a medium power but you also need that fast to x fast tip so you can still get action out of the bait. This happens to be the action of a lot of drop shot rods. I use the st croix avid x 6'9 m xf rod. The only issue I have is that I can't pick up slack without it winding line below my spool. I'm gonng try a different reel and maybe lighter line.

      @@ziggylarkdust Hi friend. Thanks for your input on the above comment. I just picked up a 7'1" Omen Black ML x-fast, 1/16 to 3/8 oz. Intention is for a marabou jig rod for trout and smallmouth. Other than being a few inches too long (maybe stand on the high side, lol), what do you think about jerks and this rod?

    Whip snake is rated for max 3/8 ozMegabass jerkbaits are 1/2 oz... you don’t run into any issues with that?

  • @philleotta7201

    Megabass jerks are good, However, the 30 dollar plus cost make them unrealistic to have a box full.

  • @marlonpowell2510

    What is your reason for only using spinning gear when throwing a jerkbaits? Is it bc of the lighter line you're using? Also, is there a casting setup to you would recommend?

    • @tannerk3732
      @tannerk3732 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Long time after, but he mentions in other videos the use of light line and using a spinning combo allows him to get a long cast. I also personally believe you runinto less line issues while working this bait. You take up slack with the reel.and sometimes on a baitcaster it winds up funky when reeling without much tension.

    What's your opinion on using like 15lb seagur smackdown braid to a 8lb leader of seagur tatsu line on a dobyns fury spinning rod with that same reel you have. would you think this would be ok? ...I've been watching your videos lately I enjoy the information...I'm a co angler I fish in a club and for tbf... reason why I'm asking is because I have a national semifinal coming up in mid September. This is the setup I plan to use with the megabass vision 110 + 2. So I try to be versatile because sometimes I use this rod for drop shot or maybe wacky rigs etc in other situations. What's your opinion on this ?

  • @dparel
    @dparel ปีที่แล้ว

    Tried this last weekend and had issues. Using 10-15 braid mainline to 8lb fluoro leader. When I jerked the slack it caused the reel to start turning and reeling the slack back onto and over the spool.

    Randy, can you please clarify that your rod is a Whipsnake? Megabass does not list a meduim 6-10. Is it an older model or am I confused (most likely!)?

    I would like to see your setup on cranking and what you use or if you could point me in the right direction I was thinking 7 foot medium moderate action with 14 pound flourocarbon and 5; 3 to 6;3 gear ratio

      @riverrushlow9033 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you like tying your line straight to the bait or can you use the fast attach clips so you can change your baits out quicker?

    • @B.A.Bassangler
      @B.A.Bassangler 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Learn to tie a Palomar/double-uni for jigs, loop-knot for finesse jerks/jigs/anything without a ring attachment. Fast clips can be used, but I've been unsatisfied with the UL to ML versions...use loop instead.

    Randy,
    What gear ratio are you using for the spinning reel?

    • @B.A.Bassangler
      @B.A.Bassangler 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my research for the same info, I've found that all ratio's are not created equal. Look for inch retrieve rate for comparison. Abu, Penn, and Pfleuger are usually my go to's for low or high retrieve rate...for example, I fish Abu Orra for deep cranks, and Abu RevoX for a little quicker line pickup. Both have a similar feel/handle design, so taking a pair out still feels intuitive...no pun intended, lol.

    Good way to nick up guides is to hand your baits on them like that.

    • @VPFreerider
      @VPFreerider 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Megabass jerks have outbarb hooks, so there isn't anything to grab or nick the inside of the guide :)

    • @Twangtown7
      @Twangtown7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@VPFreerider Ah, yes. Touche! I still don't want the metal material of the hook rubbing around on the guides tho.
