Today is the 8 year anniversary of my Mom's passing. She was a very big advocate for helping the homeless and would donate clothes or food to shelters. This donation is in her memory and to help you with the kindness you give to others. God bless.

I’m sorry for your loss, but that’s a good memory to have. Thanks for donating to this lovely human! A real man. Tomorrow the 30th is the 6 year anniversary of my mothers passing. Stupid gastric bypass caused liver failure she was only 49. She loved helping others. I always have too, but haven’t been able to with health lately. Gods got this though. @@itzracheiIt would be nice but at the end of the day, if you're doing something out of the genuine good of your heart, you shouldn't demand gratitude. At that point you're leaning more towards doing nice things just for others to stroke your ego. It's nice when people verbally express their thankfulness, but they shouldn't be condemned for being slightly impolite as if it's a crime. there are much worse things you can be in this world than a little impolite or oblivious to social expectations.

Living in a bad part of town isn’t easy, but I manage. I work at a grocery store, scraping by on a modest wage. My neighborhood might be rough, but it’s the community that makes it bearable. I’ve always believed in helping out where I can, even if it’s just small gestures.
Every day at work, I see so much food being thrown away. Perfectly good sandwiches, bread, and other items are deemed unfit for sale simply because they’re a day old. It always bothered me, the waste. So, I started taking that food and handing it out to the homeless people in my neighborhood. I make sandwiches for them and on cold days, I brew a big jug of coffee to keep them warm. They call me the “sandwich man.”
No one ever asks me for cash because they know I’m just as broke as they are. But food-food I can share. It’s a simple thing, but it means a lot to them. It means a lot to me too. We’ve built a sort of mutual respect. They know I’m looking out for them in my own way, and they appreciate it.
Last year, I had a scare that I’ll never forget. It was late, and I was walking back home. The streets were dimly lit, and the silence was almost eerie. Suddenly, I felt a presence behind me. I turned and saw a guy with a knife, demanding my wallet. My heart raced, and my mind went blank.
Just then, I heard a shout. “AYO GET AWAY FROM THE SANDWICH MAN!” In disbelief, I saw four or five homeless guys sprinting towards me from half a block away. They were yelling at the mugger, telling him to back off. Despite the knife in his hand, he bolted when he saw them coming. They chased after him, and I followed, not knowing what else to do.
We turned a corner, and there he was, pinned to the ground by at least ten of them. They had him surrounded, making sure he couldn’t escape. One of them called the police, and they arrested the guy. I was in shock, but also deeply moved. One of the guys turned to me and said, “If anyone fucks with you, sandwich man, we got your back.”
In that moment, I realized the impact of my small acts of kindness. By giving away day-old sandwiches and bread, I had earned the loyalty and protection of a community

Yeah, especially as time goes by in the US and rent as well as food prices go up, and up, and up. Many americans are just one unfortunate series of events away from being in a situation like this. Some people have the privilege of being surrounded by generous and stable friends and family who can help out when things go wrong for them, but not everyone has that.

Such a wholesome thing to do for homeless communities. So many people just don’t care or look down on the less fortunate yet it can happen to literally anyone. I was made homeless at 15 then again at 18 both times I was super lucky the 1st time my friends mum took me in the second I managed to get into a homeless unit but again they only have so many places and I remember back then a few children’s units were closed down due to no funding. Have you ever thought about trying to get donations for like a food truck ? Maybe hire 1 or two of the homeless people you feed for a few hours to help pass food while you cook or vice versa. That way you can drive in and out of community’s store more food etc 😊
People seem to forget it can happen to anyone.
